Anyone got a possible answer to this?

I thought I posted about this before but can't find it...

so I got it free as a hand me down, 55" beast of a thing it's HUGE and heavy. It worked for about 3 weeks, then pop, nothing. I'd power it on, you'd rear some relays or something snap back and forth, then no picture. For a day or 2 I could unplug it,then plug it back in, relays click, and it would work, then finally nothing.

I gave up, looked online a but and repairs sounded way too $$$. It has been just sitting there in my living room to the side a bit, plugged in, hoping...

Tonight we had a huge storm, bigger than the last few here in WI, and while making some green beans in the microwave the power went out for a good 30 seconds. Once it came back on and my green beans finished cooking I went to the living room.... I was looking at a 55" screen of snow!  :O  :rock I quickly tuned to the cable input (svideo) and viola!  :rock :rock

The power has popped 2 other times tonight and it came right back up. I was timid to risk it, but I programmed the universal cable remote, and good to go, power on / off / all works.

 :huh

Anyone got an idea what might have been wrong? It is plugged into a surge suppressor, has been the whole time.

Thats pretty bizarre unless the power flicker was just enough to forcefully reset something in the tv

Better sacrafice a chicken to keep the tv gods pleased

must have been the electrical equivalent of banging on it with a monkey wrench to fix it.... :aok

Sounds like the power supply's getting kinda dim. My desktop computer is the same way, except it stays dead until you shock it.

I agree it's a funked power supply. Those old projection sets are notorious for burning them out.
Enjoy it while it lasts cause it will fry again.
