Title: Question to pilots

My PPL checkride is planned for next tuesday and I'm already eyeballing headsets and backup VHF radios.

What do you guys think of the Sennheiser HME 95 (http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/icm_eng.nsf/root/500747) and the Icom A14 (http://www.icomamerica.com/en/products/avionics/handheld/a14/default.aspx) with the headset adapter option?

The Sennheiser looks good. But I have no experience of it. I know of cheaper models of Sennheisers that really didn't survive well the day to day rigours of a flying school. They eventually went over to David Clarks.
Of course, your own personal headset would be better looked after.

I'm a David Clark man myself. I like the durability of the DC's. Mine survives lots of ill treatment during long days at the dropzone.

DC's take a hel of a lot of punishment.
They are a good rugged headset.
I used an ICOM for a portable for ages. with no issues.

for avaionics, i'd stick with king.....reliable.
headsets..i have a telecom and a david clark. had them for about 6 years with 0 troubles

I happen to sell both.  Icom is a very good radio.  Tough and will take a beating. 

As far as the headsets go, DC is a good option.  Don't sell alot if the Sennheiser.  I personally don't care for it.  I will say though, that what one person likes, another hates.  Would definately recommend going somewhere to try out different models of headsets out and find one that fits you well. 

Have had customers with the same DC since the 70's and not had an issue.  You may want to look into an ANR headset down the road, so I wouldn't plunk a lot into that right now.  See where your training takes you and then make the decision on those.  For something basic, the DC H10-13 S is good and priced under $300.

Of course.  I am just not a big fan of Gruden.  Guess I like Tony Dungy too much.
