Title: No Side Switching after the 5th day of the Tour.
Post by: Newman5 on June 13, 2008, 06:43:43 PM
No Side Switching after the 5th day of the Tour.  Or perhaps if you are in a squad, you have to be in the same country at all times as your CO is.  So if your CO decides to switch, you all switch.  Whaddya think?  I don't know, maybe its a terrible idea. :)

It's a terrible idea.

I fly mostly in the MW arenas and sometimes the numbers aren't quite even so I'll switch to the low number side and fly.  There are other players and squadrons that do this and your bad idea would stop this which is a bad thing.

Frankly, it's really none of your business when someone switches sides and people should be free to do so whenever they wish.  This nonsense that it's about trying to stop spying is, well, nonsense.

Wow...Sorry, perhaps touched a nerve there Ack-Ack?  It was just a suggestion, and it makes a lot of sense what you said.  And I never said anything about spying.  I brought this up because a squaddie of mine switched sides and was fighting against his own squad mates by accident.  Thanks for responding though.

It will never fly Orville.

Actually...

Having the country affinity defined at the squad level might not be a bad option... and I mean option.   Maybe some squad setting like name and website that the CO defines.. or allows others the permision to change..

It would be up to the CO to enable the feature.

I've seen, first hand, the emotions that arise when a squaddie is discovered flying for a different country and shoots down a squad mate.  It can get ugly... fast.

Sure, a lot of folks don't feel that way about country loyalty.  Understand that others do.

If they eliminate side switching, then how can I spy?

 :rofl

Jokes aside, all your squadmate had to do was ask 'What country are we?' on squad channel (4) and he would of known or he could of checked the roster. Many look for the fight, and not the 'war-win' and like it just the way it is now.

HTC is trying to encourage MORE people to switch sides (eny limits).

Why would they shoot themselves in the foot?

As to finding squad members, for most thats dead easy. .sr  will list all the main arena's.

The scenario I've seen is where somebody lets their kid play on their account and they switch countries. The kid probably wasn't even aware of the concept of squad affiliation and country loyalty.  Then when dad logs back in, he takes off to go look for a fight.. completely oblivious to the fact that he's in a different country.. finds a bogey, shoots him down.. and is terrified that he just blew away a squad-mate.

A few things happen.

1.  The thoughts of 'How the Hell did I get over here'...
2.  The PMs of 'What the hell are you doing over there??' from his squad mate
3.  The speculation of traitorous action and ultimate squad loyalty amongst the rest of the squad present.
4.  The flaming e-mails to the CO and XO about the treasonous acts of this side-hopper.
5.  The dad finding his son and demanding to know how he got changed to a different country and did he change it.
6.  The kid looking up from his game-cube and says 'Yeah, I got bored.' ( it was a while ago )

Now.. this may come across as exceedingly funny, but people do get emotionally bent from stuff like this.  Especially if the people involved are subject to short fuses and they're having a particularly bad night.  God help them all if the death was from an HO or vulch.

So. .I don't think it would be too much to ask for, at least, a pop-up box mentioning that the squad you belong to has been defined as loyal to country x.. do you really want to change countries? y/n.

I like side switching the way it is now. I rarely switch sides, but I want the option.

Last week, I was working over a B-25 that had just taken off with my SBD. A fellow countrymate zoomed in and blasted the Mitchell, effectively stealing the kill. I congratulated him on stealing a kill from a dive bomber and he gave me an unkind ration of garbage. I warned him that payback is hell... He kept running his yap. I considered a DA challenge, but I didn't believe he would accept it, and it wouldn't have been much of a fight anyway. So, I switched to Knit and went F4U hunting at that same location. I shot down a couple of Corsairs, but he wasn't one of them. Another Rook told he left the area after the capture. Point made, nonetheless. I stayed Knit for a while, beating off the Rook horde until the mob eventually dissipated.

Side switching is essential to force balancing. It's also a good way to deal with people who need instruction on manners and arena etiquette.

My regards,

Widewing

people do get emotionally bent from stuff like this.
Then, in all seriousness, they need to grow up.

This is a game.  No one really gets hurt or dies.  Anyone who loses sight of that should step away for a while.  Anyone who regularly loses sight of that should find a new hobby.

2.  The PMs of 'What the hell are you doing over there??' from his squad mate
3.  The speculation of traitorous action and ultimate squad loyalty amongst the rest of the squad present.
4.  The flaming e-mails to the CO and XO about the treasonous acts of this side-hopper.

And if your squady is the type that would hurl those kinds of accusations rather than have a good laugh about it, then I would suggest finding a different squad.

LOL.

If I was flying for another country and shot down one of my squaddies I would...

A) Wonder how the heck I did that
B) <S> them for what would probably have been a good fight

Then hunt them down exclusively  :devil

If people could not switch sides......the gangbang factor would be even worse since no one could changes sides to balance out numbers.

I was neither for it, nor against it.  Just wondered what people thought of the idea.  Now having looked at the responses, I understand why it is an option, and I like the idea of side balancing as well as all the rest.  Thanks for all your help. :salute

Funny...my squaddies are the ONLY ones who can shoot me down and I'll smile about it. The rest of you, I pray to Cthulhu and the other Elder Gods to send you bouts of projecticle ebola and runny leprosy...

I thought the whole point of squaddies was so you had someone you could laugh at after you shot them down and still be friends afterwards. :)

I say this like I could actually shoot down anyone else in my squad, but I rather like the theory. :)

More to the point restricting side switching I think causes more problem scenarios than it solves.  I used to fly pretty much knights exclusively, not that I cared what other people did but that's where my "friends" were.  When I did start hoping around I discovered a lot more people out there who were a lot of fun to fly along with or chat to.  The benefits of side changing simply outweigh the "problems" as I see it.

Only if one of the options is 'your squad has been defined as loyal to...fun..."

I always have to check to see which country I'm in when I log on.  My squaddies keep showing up on the same side too, no matter how many times I move!  They're stalking me!

Some of my squad mates have switched sides and hunted me for giggles.  When I get shot down by one of them I think it's a riot.  :lol

im not sure if i support that considering how bad the rooks are lately. but what irks me is when we are winning a battle. some of the rooks switch sides just to get kills on thier own players. that is stupid

Maybe they are sick and tired of your verbal tirades and switched countries to go on a good old fashion Dweeb Hunt, with you being the obvious Dweeb.
