-
Sorry, I'm a Marmite man!
Now that's gross! Hahah
Vegemite rules. The key is to spread it the correct amount, it's not like jam or peanut butter, it requires a thin covering over a thick layer of melted butter.
:aok

I come from a land down under
:D

WTF is vegemite made from or of?
Found it. It's made from the yeast waste from the beer brewing process. Sounds interesting in that there are at least 3 varieties. It's amusing that the vegemite sold in the US has the Kraft name removed from the bottle unlike in Australia.

kittens.

WAR kittens?

A 150g (5ĽOz) jar of Vegemite will be leaving Ballina tomorrow :rock
-
I had vegemite and cheese on toast (molenberg) for dinner tonight.
-
It aint to bad with an egg (poached) thrown on top of the vegemited and buttered toast, MMMMM.
I,m in the Irish Republic at the moment and I gotta cross the border to the North to get hold of my fix...
Still a hard 1 to sell unless you been raised on it though...
Sharrk...

Vegemite can even be used in general cooking, it adds an extra bite to gravies :)
It is a bit strong for newcomers but once you've become used to it, you will be like me, sneaking spoonfuls (well really dipping a finger in it while the Mrs isn't looking) every time you walk past the pantry :p

Hey, that`s great. I appreciate it.
Can`t wait to give it a try.

I once got some vegemite from an Australian girl in a secret santa type thing. As we got more and more drunk, Vegemite served as punishment for party fouls.
I've seen less pain in a 4 year old's eyes as he realizes that he must eat the broccoli.
-
I've heard the stuff is very yucky! Is that correct or incorrect?
-
that depends on your definition of "yucky"
I think it's an acquired taste :D

Mom. Vegemite, it awesome stuff...
The best known cure for a hangover is a thick Vegemite sandwich (You'll never find a better source of B-vites!) and a large glass of juice.
A Vegemite sandwich actually has more Vitamin B than a any of the Vitamin B complexes you can buy.
It's a great morning starter on toast, it goes well with cheese (It's an average kids favourite lunchtime food).
I use it in cooking sauces and gravies.
Most don't like it as thick as I do, but it's something you'll not be able to get enough of once you get the taste for!
Remember, usually all you need is a thing even coating, not enough to cover up the bread and butter completely, you want to be able to see it underneath. :aok
-
Sd67 has the correct vegemite application amount right there.
Even but thin, it's not peanut butter or jam, it's potent stuff that only requires a small amount for the best taste.
:aok
-
you know it's a slow news day when the vegemite thread gets resurrected.
-
My mom loves the stuff. I bout puke all over the place. I'd say its a very very aquired taste.
-
I'm having Vegemite sandwiches right now for morning tea :aok

Ooooops! SD I replied to quick in the other post.
We don`t get our mail here until 3:00 P.M. or after.
Went to check the mail after posting and there it was. :)
Immediately came home and put some whole wheat bread in the toaster and broke out the butter.
I got one thing to say. WOW! :lol
This stuck R O C K S!!!!!!!!!!!
About the only way I can explain it is it turns ordinary toast into something with the taste resembling
a really good home baked bread..........with a kick.
Thanks again.

Actually it's not too odd that there are at least 3 varieties. As a homebrewer, I can go to the local homebrew supply store and pick from at least 50 different varieties of yeast (that they have on hand). I can also order many different others.
-
I once had vegemite, she swore she was clean, I should have known better. Nothing like a penicillin to clear things up.

No worries jackal.
I'm glad you like it :D
It's awesome stuff! :rock

I'm going to have to do the same, Jackal. I don't even know if they sell it around here, but I guess the grocer will know. I'm a toast nut. I'd die if I were ever forced to go on a no-carb (or any other) diet... I can't imagine life without bread.

SheeesH!!! Now that I am hooked I did some searches and get a load of stories concerning the ban of vegemite importation into the U.S. due to added folate.
But.evidently, like most things, there are ways...........http://www.marmitepantry.com/Vegemite.html (http://www.marmitepantry.com/Vegemite.html)
SD is right on target concerning the proper way to start out. Light is the key word on buttered toast.
Man Oh man Oh man!
A taste explosion.
Just got through with a couple of slices. :)

I bet our commissary has it ~ they've got stuff from absolutely everywhere. I'm checking next time I go. :) I'm actually looking a little bit forward to it!
