Title: XP-Sp3 breaks dual core drivers
Post by: oceans11 on June 17, 2008, 12:22:29 PM
My system was working fine up until last night .
After I installed Service pack 3 for XP it squashed my AMD driver fixes.

Ended up installing sp3 and reinstalling AMD drivers.
NOW however I am getting that annoying sp3 update available screen.
And I am trying to figure out if I can selectively install portions of SP3 . But I am sure I will be unable to do so

You can only install the full pack.  Read this link to disable the SP3 notification icon and some other SP3 info...http://techtalk.pcpitstop.com/2008/05/25/pitstop-news-flash-sp3-still-no-go-flash-xp-sp3-still-not-ready-news-flash-do-not-install/.  Personally, I also disable autoupdates and do it myself, as it's a resource hog. If you choose this path, you'll also need to disable "error report" so it doesn't bug you about windows update being disabled. Remember to activate these again when you check for security updates.  Here's the link to the SP blocker tool kit:  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=D7C9A07A-5267-4BD6-87D0-E2A72099EDB7&displaylang=en
