Once you install you have to set texture resolution to 1024 or it doesn't do anything.

yes, i am aware of this, i have used the hi res pack for some time. however, it doesnt seem to install . when the textures load they should end in ".hires", correct? they currently do not.
so, does the hires pack only support standard resolutions, i.e. 1920x1200, not my current resolution of 1200x1920?

Doesn't work that way.

If you switch to 1024 res and it builds the cache, you will see individual folders with *****_1024.cga filenames. The 1024 denotes the resolution of that cache file. If you have built the cache for 512 previously, you will see the same filenames ending in _512.gca (or whatever the extension is, I can't remember here at work).

If AH can run the resolution itself, it will load hi-res in that resolution.

The way to find out is to load a skin and look at it closely. Look at the cockpit, the wing outside your cockpit, zoom in on the runway and look at the details/noseart.

Then switch back to 512 resolution, and do the same. You'll notice a slight loss of detail (things just a hint less crisp).

ok, when you install the pack and run the game, the first time it is supposed to build the hi res cache. however, in the resolution i run, 1200x1920, it does not do this. it does do this in 1920x1200, i know this because i have tested it.
so my question is; is it possible to get the hires pack to work at this resolution? i apologize for my earlier error, my "sometimers" was acting up.

The cache does not need to be rebuilt when you change the game video resolution.  If you want to force the game to rebuild the cache, then simply remove the 'cache' folder in the game's installation directory.  This will kill all the cache builds for any texture size.

Let me know how you like flying in  Portrait mode.. I just got a dell 24inch and am interested in doing the same.  I like it in 1900x 1200 so far (1 day)

How do you get AH2 to portrait mode

Every time I've tried it I get that error with the "Don't Send" button in it.

I assume you are talking about a wide aspect ratio screen, as the game runs in portrait mode already.

Check the option to show all the resolutions in the game's "Video Settings".  Thta will show all the available veideo settings the video card/monitor supports.  If your monitor shows to be a 'Plug n Play' or 'Default' type, then you will not get all of the resolutions available.  In that case, you must load the correct monitor INF file.

portrait mode on a wide screen is turning the monitor on its side. so it is taller than wider. i had to manually edit the video8.cfg file to the resolution i wanted to run, 1200x1920. normal mode is 1920x1200.
