Personally I prefer approaching and thanking them with a handshake if its one or two. This will be easier to do with a group of armed forces personnel.

sad that their needs to be internet movies and organizations to promote this.  I've been doing it all my life...any time I've seen a uniformed member of our armed services.

I popped for beer for any Marines I happened to be flying with into Ontario Airport when I was traveling more. They used to train in the closed base housing at March ARB. They called it little Faluzia. Actually did it 3 times, and tried to limit it to the guys in my row, airplane beer is expensive.
