Why is the most versatile plane built in WWII limited to the "fighter/attack" Mk VI version of the Mosquito ? A plane that only carries four 500 pound bombs. The bomber version of the Mosquito carried a much heavier payload than that. It was used extensively as an anti-shipping bomber in WWII. Yet in Aces High the bomber version of the Mosquito is conspicuously absent. Shouldn't Aces High addess this oversight ?
-
News for you, the anti-shipping version was the Mk VI that we have as well as the Mk XVIII with the 57mm cannon. The bomber was used against ground targets.
-
"Most versatile plane" is certainly a matter of opinion, with many qualified contenders. However, if you're asking for the Mk IV, or later bomber models, especially those carrying the 4000 lb bomb, I agree.
Personally I'd love to see the Mk XVIII Tsetse. :aok

Not my opinion. That was "Wings" History Channel last week. They said and I quote.. The Mosquito was "produced in more variations" and served in more "mission roles" than any other aircraft produced in WWII. It was used as a level bomber, fighter/attack bomber, bomber escort, anti-shipping, ASW plane and a night fighter. They also said the payload of the bomber version rivalled some medium American bombers. So I'm believing it carried a 4,000 lb bomb in this configuration.
According to "Wings", Hitler was so impressed with the versatility and lethality of the Mosquito.. He tasked German aircraft builders to create their own version of the plane giving them unheard of access to resources and an unprecidented deadline of a few months to produce one. Question is, Why don't we have the bomber version in Aces High ?

Pathfinder, Marker Aircraft & Photo-Recon as well.
BTY....Don't believe EVERYTHING you hear on the Histroy Channel. They never let the minor "Details" get in the way of a good show. ;)

Also served as a VIP transport between Sweden and the UK. VIP rode in the bomb bay. And I recall see an interview with an American who rode in the bomb bay broadcasting to the Marquis and listening for a response.

Yes, and if you watch a special on the JU-88, they'll give it exactly the same credit, verbatim.
The Mossie was a phenomenal plane in many ways, and the more variants we have the better. But quoting docudramas as definitive sources is hardly conducive to being taken seriously.

They put in minor details, just not very many. Thats why when you watch a show about a certain plane, watch a few different ones about the same one and you'll learn more stuff. :aok

True, but if you know about history and aircraft you will also notice that the Histroy Channel has a lot of stuff WRONG in their shows as well. That was my point. Ghastly made the point don't base everything on a TV show - do the research yourself out of better sources. :aok

I completely agree that the Mossi is by far the most versitile plane in WWII and the other aorcraft that tried to be as versitile were a distant second. No other plane did so many things as well as the Mossi, but like many I believe it excelled in the tactical/strike role (FB Mk.VI). Also, you definately have a ally in me when it comes to adding more Mossi variants. I hope that #1, HTC fixes the current model (speed) and #2 they add another variant or two. The bomber version (B Mk16/18?) would be a huge asset to us RAF fans. The FB Mk. VI is very versitile, but has yet to really find a niche in this Bf110 dominated "flash-bang" game. Too many want the raw firepower of the dual 30mm cannons instead of using tecnique and finesse that a Mossi requires. Buggers for them, eh 'ol boy? ;)
The History Channel is a great source for "macro" information. Remember that it tends to lean towards a populist message and when most historians listen they to cringe every minute or so due to the over-generalization of some of the facts. The "Top Ten" show is one that really makes me cringe. The Englishman Oxford prof makes me wonder if he really is a prof, or if he is an actor. Also, the History Channel needs to proof their stats and specs a bit more. They tend to be very inaccurate at times.

Note that the F4U-1D carried 4k of bombs on occasion. 4,000 pounds of bombs was nothing special.
I do agree with the notion that we should have a glass nose bomber variant of the Mosquito in the game.. A non-perked, high-speed bomber formation would add tactical complexity to the game that would be interesting and entertaining.

A friend of mine works in the NYC office of the "Hitler Channel". The objective of all their shows is first and foremost to generate advertising revenue, NOT to tell a fully factual, complete story.
That said, many of their shows DO have a kernel of truth in them, if you know where to look.

I've never heard that before Jester. :rofl If it wasn't intentional, your subconcious is brilliant. :aok

Actually, as the FB.VI was the variant produced in the greatest numbers, one could build a fairly strong argument that it's the right one to have in AH.

Certainly if there is to be only one Mosquito it should absolutely be the FB.Mk VI. That said, there should be two or three more versions of it added.
-
I'm all for that.

I agree that a glass-nosed model would be interesting. How can you not want something like this? :)
