Title: A Sweet Game!
Post by: Cmustard on June 19, 2008, 08:07:38 PM
I was wondering why HTC doesn't give us good looking graphics. For example , the trees look like garbage , the ground looks like poopy green patches , the beaches look like someone spilt some whitish yellowish paint on them , The sky is always one color and really never changes , meaning we dont even get something they have , night time , better water. And the list goes on. Now heres everyones answer: It would absolutely destroy the frame rates. Understood ; that being said , I dont know if anyone remembers but awile ago , before we started getting all the updates , we had something called animated water. Now that looked awsome and realistic. Now , everyone didn't have to have that on , only the people that could handle it. You would go to graphic details for that , and thats where the ground and the water and the trees and all the other stuff I mentioned should be , in the graphic details. I think that really solves everyones problems. That way people that cant handle it has the normal , and people that can may have some decent looking graphics.

Have you ever played the others? AHII is the best simulator I've ever seen. Well, I guess you're on a 1 way road to PNG

Yes it is the funnest , not the best graphics. All im saying is to have the option to bump ur graphics up closer to flight sims , inorder that the people that can handle it , are able to have a nice enviroment. Im looking to buy a 2GB graphics card and some extra memory cards , so in the future if this game does get to where I would like it to go , or at least have the option , my comp will be able to handle it easily

Those are not flight sims , your not understanding my point. What im saying is simple , upgrade the graphics and have the option to turn them on or to turn them to normal.

They are the best of all the other flight sims I've ever played dude. I've also played the new IL-2 game, graphics arent as good in the cockpit, only thing they got is out-side the plane, nothin else.

Actually yes, I do. I'd rather play this on any system than play the others on only the most up to date computers.

You shouldn't be telling them that what they worked hard to achieve, is garbage. They are (as far as I know) the most massive Air Combat online game in the world. (correct me if I'm wrong.)

This should if anything be in the wish list forum. And dont be so rude about it.

There should be a squelch button for the forums, so I dont have to read such ignorant stuff like this. You cant even be mature about something as simple as this.

So quit posting stuff like this because you are mad that BearKats beat you and it's somehow "HTC's fault"

So you want Graphics like MS:Flight Sim9/X?  This would be nice up till the Download.  That would be a very large DL with those graphics.

Cmustard, that is why FSX is around 16GB of space.
Edit: BTW - consider the fact that I have a very good computer, probably better than yours CMustard, and mine barely runs FSX well.

Ah, i can't seem to get planes i DL to work in it :(.

If AH adds FSX graphics most people (3/4 or so) would most likely have it off due to the reality of it.

I have Med settings and get only 15-20FR. :cry

This is also a downloadable game so it has to be relatively small enough to allow those on a dial up connection to be able to download the game.  If this was a boxed only game then more advanced graphics could be used but it's not. HiTech has to make a compromise between having a game full of eye candy and a game that will allow those that don't have a high end system or broadband connection to play and download the game.

Also, try to be less insulting to the developers that make that game that you play.  The old saying "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" comes to mind but it appears that you are too stupid to understand such a basic concept.

I own FSX and SilentHunter3.  I think this game looks fine, and am comfortable with the trade off in graphics for population.  You are stating an opinion, not a fact. Opinions vary, thank you for sharing yours.  Don't bother arguing, I have my opinion, you have yours, works for me.

I didn't bother to read through the whole thread, but I got the gist.

Cmustard, would you like to buy the machine I cannot afford? Persuade my phone company to hurry up on the DSL so I can graduate from the "telegraph" line? Many of us don't earn high wages, and therefore don't have premium gaming packages. Therefore, HTC has done a wonderful job of KEEPING IT SIMPLE. It's playable for everone overall. It's kept me hooked for four years, so far. :aok

I don't understand the intermittent complaining about the graphics not being realistic enough.  Yes it's nice when HT upgrades this or that, but I don't come here for scenic flights or drives.  In the 'heat of battle', the countryside/sky appearance is the last thing on my mind....

Aces High is probably all you've played then.. :lol  IL2 has another series being released called Birds of Prey that will pretty much CRUSH any other WW2 flightsim in every aspect from physics to graphics, including Aces High.  There are a TON of other flightsims out there with 10 times better graphics than Aces High..

I think Aces High graphics are kind of behind the times to allow playability on a larger scale with those who have systems that
may be more than a few years old.  Marketing bro!  Gotta keep yourself open to a large market!

Also, I don't think Aces High is very efficient graphically.  Especially on older systems, 2X AA will drop your FPS levels to damn near unplayable.  Not sure about you, but I like to play my games cranked to the max when it comes to graphics and I have the system to do so..
From my perspective, if I can't play something that looks pretty, there's no point in playing it.  If I had to play COD4 or Crysis at med graphic levels, I'd probably pay my 3 years old to punch me in the face and say "What are you doing papa!!???"
A "simulation" indicates a degree of realism.  Graphics enhances that realism..

Respectfully, I completely disagree with the fact that this game has to be limited by people who don't want to upgrade their systems or their connections.  To my knowledge, Aces High is the only game that I know of that restricts itself due to this situation.  I can't think of any other game released in the last 2-3 years that can even utilize a dial-up connection for internet game-play besides Aces High..  Even in 2004 when it was released there were very few games that could still utilize a dial-up connection.  In Aces High, latency due to limiting factors such as a dial-up connection (however some dial-ups are actually pretty decent as far as latency is concerned depending on location, modem, system, tweaking, etc. but most dial-up users will not consider such things because they probably don't know) will cause one to warp.  In other games, latency will slowdown the entire game for everyone.  Kinda sucks when you have a game that crawls at a snails pace due to one guy using a dial-up/wireless/satellite connection..

I understand Aces High marketing strategy in this matter..  It's completely logical.  After all, most people who play this game are older than your average gamer and they are less apt to upgrade their systems or internet connections based on either cost, lack of necessity, ignorance, or a combination of all 3.  That's not a swipe at anyone playing this game, just a fact I've come to observe.

My lord someone understands! And earlier , someone said this game is a download so it is harder to get better graphics ; They do have disk downloads u can pay for , buy the disk for sick graphics , i dont think im sayin anything outrageous

1 gig downloads are very common for many game demos these days..  As I said, this game is limited by the fact that many who play it are still limited by their hardware, internet connection, or (tragically) both..

If HTC were to suddenly upgrade their graphic engine, they'd probably alienate more than half of their subscribers.  That's a bad business decision.  So, HTC will slllloooowwwllllyyy develop this game and it will always be behind the standard by a few years.  But that's all good because no other game has 400 people in one arena at a time and I will surely take the hit graphically to be able to play and talk to so many people.. :rock

**sigh**
I find backward thinking annoying..

Don't insult by using the term "pretty pictures"..  "Pretty Pictures" and graphic quality have nothing in common..  A "picture" is in those old 1980's playboys underneath your disgustingly filthy bathroom sink that your wife has been urging you to remove for that last 30 years..
A graphic engine is something else entirely...

i think that might be your setting or your graphics card. my graphics was clear now they are distored a little. it hurts me in gvs. i have trouble spotting and hitting some targets at long range.

This is true, but to attract new customers...eye candy is what they usually see first.  Not gameplay and comradery.  With the exception of the summer squeakers, the influx of new pilots is getting stagnant IMHO.

Course it's not, I need to be able to support it on my 2005 system. I've played CFS1, CFS2, CFS3, IL-2 (both versions) and AHII is still a way better sim than all of them. Just because you can make nearly any system support Aces High. HTC has that over nearly all other sims who require the best systems to play.

What new Il2?  The newest IL2 doesn't come out until next year..  What you're playing isn't new..  The latest release of Il2 is 1946 and that's several years old..  Seriously man, get up to speed....

All the same to me, still 40$$ at Wal-Mart, so it's new. Plus, I wouldn't wanna waste my money on that stupid game anyways. Thank god I played it at a friends house before he returned it.

Wow...good thing you weren't here for AH I.    When all the trees were the exact same and formed perfect squares.

I agree on the physics portion of your statement..  It's the most accurate of any WWII flightsim I've used..
But not needing new players?  What's your reason for that?
Some of you guys sound like old pissed off grandfathers who hate your grandkids..   :lol

Well, first of all, he got RIPPED OFF paying that much for IL2..  He should've tried gamestop or eBay..  Can get it for around $10-$20 there..
Also, it just shows HOW BEHIND on the times you really are..  No offense..  Can't expect to post info like that and not get "corrected" by someone who knows the market..  Also, stores like Walmart, Target, etc. are the WOST places to buy games..  I still see games released in 2004 going for $40-$50.  This is insane and shows that those who are buying games there don't know the first thing about PC gaming or where to buy their games (again no offense  :)  )  So many games can be bought second hand for next to nothing..  Go to one of these small games shops and they'll have racks of used PC games on the cheap.  COD4 for $20!!  Crysis for $17.99!!  FSX for $25.99!!  And that's just the one in town here..  I'm sure ones closer to bigger cities would have much more..

Anodizer since u have, from what I figured from ur writings a more comprehensive picture of IL 2 than many off us here, how u compare the flight characteristics of two same fighters, in AH and in IL2 ? My feeling is that IL2 fighters are harder to fly compare to AH fighters. Think AH is kind of “care free handling”. Especially during some high –g maneuvers the movement of the aircrafts in AH is so abrupt, for eg negative g dive or ++++g climb, that the plane is literally vanished from your field of view in a matter of secs. From my experience in offline IL2 the moves of the fighters are more smoothly and more close to human body limits. What is your opinion about it?

AH is the highest fidelity flight sim for world war II aircraft, bar none. If you want your eye-candy or nit-picking engine management details go play something else. If what you care about is ACM and fighting in the closest possible manner to the real deal, AH is where it's at. Only the humble opionion of someone who's played every single flight sim ever made.
