Title: just graduated
Post by: Flyboy on June 20, 2008, 07:52:31 AM
this wednesday i graduated officer course, finally after 7 long months i am now a Lieutenant.
for those of you who remember i had quite an interesting path in the army, starting in the AF all the way to were i stand today.
so, finally next sunday, (gave me the week off  :) ) i will go back to my regiment which is the special forces regiment of the nachal brigade.
im getting a young team, (we work in teams not platoons) that is still in training and ill lead them in the next 8 months untill they "graduate" and become full grown soldiers.
im really looking forward for it, having around 20 or so "sons" to teach and educate.
after that i will move to a operational team of veteran soldiers.
needless to say i wont be here much, ill probably pop in to catch up and fly a sortie or 2 in some of the weekends.
as far as things look im obligated to 2 more years in the army, but who knows maybe ill stay longer, im thinking about rejoining the AF, i have the option to continue my pilot training from the point i stoped it, and i must say its quite tempting, but i dont see it happening anytime soon.

just wanted to update you guys, i have alot of good friends in this comunity although ive seen their names less and less over time.
wish me luck  :)
Ben

There isn't anything more dangerous than a new butter bar with a compass thinking he knows where to go.  :huh

Congrats LT. Find yourself an older grizzled SGT. <E6 to E8> to polish off the rough edges of your butter bar. Best training possible for a new Officer. It really is a whole different world on the other side of the brass and as nice as it looks on one side, when you get there it never is as nice as you thought it was. The responsibility only gets heavier the farther you go. By the time you make Major most of the enlisted folks start to think you might have your stuff together......  ;)

Congratulations, flyboy.

Actually, you're a Ségen mishné (Sagám), right? Time sure flies. Hard to believe that you were just a kid when you started playing this game.

Congratulations, flyboy.

yup your right rolex, im not sure whats the compatible rank in the US\UK army, the IDF structure is a bit different.
btw, it sounds like you spent some time over here, was it  recently?

and for maverick,
things here work differently, unlike the US army, where you enlist in advance to become an officer and never expirience how its like being a soldier, or operational duty. in the IDF the officers grow out of the ranks, doing first squad commanding course and then officer course.
this method as 2 major reasons.
first. we dont have the time for a long fundamental course, theres allweys a lack of officers and so the result is the shortest course in the world (correct me if im wrong) around 7 months, how long is it in the US? around 3-4 years?
second. we just cant afford inexperience green officers in operational duty.

BTW some of the best Officers I've had the pleasure to work with in the US Army were once Enlisted soldiers. OCS grads.  So your above statement is false LT.

WTG :)

Several paths in the US to become an officer.
Most common is enlist with a bachelors degree, go thru basic, then OCS, come out the other side as a 2nd Lt.
About 3 months give or take from start to finish.
Lootenant in 6 months, captain a year later, and Major in 2 after that if I remember correctly.
Pretty much automatic to Major unless you really screw the pooch along the way.
Lootenant Colonel is the first tough step up .. you have to know what you're doin and the people above you and that work for you have to know that you know :)

-Frank (knew a Senior Msgt that refused to salute 2nd lootenants .. was hilarious :). . man he got some serious chewin from the Wing King :)
