Title: Every country should have a king
Post by: slipknot on June 20, 2008, 08:36:14 AM
Yes, a king, I say. Sort of like a human version of an HQ--if he is killed, there is no dar, and some other limitations should be applied as well. Total chaos should ensue of the king is dispatched.

Where does the king live, you ask? In a castle, up on a hill somewhere. It should be out of gv reach, but for a very long and perilous drive. Bombers can hit it, but the flak should be rediculous.

Here's the kicker--the kind should be an actual player. The choosing of the king should be largely random, with no vote or anything like that (he's not a president, afterall). Names of candidate kings should be submitted by players as nominations. After that, the name is drawn from a hat. Once chosen, the king should sit on the thrown until abdication, death, or coup d'etat.

If the king isn't online, a secondary king will serve until the real king logs in--kings should obviously be chosen from a pool of players who are online often.

The king will have total control of all ships, will be able to alocate resources to make bases rebuild faster, and will be able to banish players from his country to another. Such banishments will last no more than 24 hours.

This is a great idea.

No offense, but not really. How about an "elected official"?

For bishop, I'd pick FALCON23 or Joker2 personally.  :aok

Oh yeah, and the king should be able to pick and choose any plane/gv from his country, push a button, and cause it to explode. No reason, just omnipotence.

I was gonna suggest that, only you would attain said supreme dictator when your country wins reset... The prize for attaining this?

A fully functional, fully armed f-16 for the next war.

So you are suggesting that an in-game country should be controlled by just one person, and this one person gets to control the country's navy, and the country's industry?

Do you realize what you are doing? You are giving those annoying armchair generals a chance to run the game (something that some people in AH would slit their wrists over).

They will constantly make missions, and they will banish anyone that doesn't agree on it.

How they will run the place will seem more like communism than a monarchy.

Off-topic: It seems like someone (sometimes me) shoots down your idea within a few days.

Someone will probably report me because they think I have a massive ego or something, but I guess that's the price you pay when you speak your mind.

Good luck on your next big idea.

Halo

All of this is true, which is why I am now adding a new and exciting element to the proposal... Usurpation!!

Yes, a king's subjects will be able to conspire against him, kill him in his castle(the castle will be vulnerable even to friendly ord, but the castle's defenses, upon order by the king, will be able to unleash their fury on the attacker), and install a new king of their choosing. Well-organized Squads will thus have the power to set up puppet governments and run their countries. Any squad with the ability to dethrone a king (and it won't be easy, because if they fail, he will be able to banish them after they return to base) will have shown the skills and aptitude necessary to lead the nation, and wage a successful war.

Of course, if a country lets an incompetant king run things without intevening, they will be deserving of whatever poor decisions such a king inflicts upon them.

Give him enough for a one-way trip... Oh yeah, and a free-fall Nook so he can go out in a blaze of glory.

If I win 2 war's in a row can i trade F-16 in for F-22? Also for my first mission as king I will have the whole country in a huge c47 raid to capture the bish castle thingy.

It's actually not that stupid. Yes, it was designed to be compeltely assinine, but given all the new facets--I think it can be workable. Squads unseating and installing leaders can add a very interesting aspect to the game. If not a feature of the main arena, It can, at the very least, become a feature of a scenario.

So, in short, I'm disregarding your comment because I think that your tribute to the Bald Eagle is far too cheesy.

I sincerely pity this 'king'....sitting in his 'castle' all day long, with nothing to do.

Well, he could take a plane up, but if he dies, his throne will have to go to his successor... Also, while he is flying, somebody will have to make decisions. That somebody, perhaps (haven't decided if this should be a feature yet) might not want to step down when the king returns. Who knows how that would end.
