Title: Perfect example of
Post by: moot on June 21, 2008, 11:49:54 PM
A player insisting there's something fishy going on with the guy who shot him down, when said player's flying is what's killing him..
Film. (http://rapidshare.com/files/124154722/film75_0028.ahf)
Maneuvers ("ACM"), a good picture of what's going on ("Situational awareness"), good gunnery, and other details (like not hesitating - each half second is worth a lot of angles in a fight for a killshot) make or break every fight.  So when you see someone talking about "cheat this", "hack that", you need to see the film, or film it if it happens to you, and have an experienced player or two's opinion before crying wolf.
The odds are about 99.99999999999999% that there's nothing fishy at all.  There's also very good odds that when you look at the film, how it happened doesn't even look mysterious anymore. This film's a good illustration of that.

Not sure if this goes in here, or in the help & training forum.. It's the 100th+ time since I've been playing the game that this happens (not just to me obviously), and often enough the guy will be saying stuff like "I've been playing forever, I know what I'm talking about", etc.

m00t just remember some people; even if they played for 5 years straight might not have even learned how to dogfight.
If they call you a cheater just tell them to email the film to skuzzy and ignore it. I am not even going to view the film because I do have
quite a few films of you flying around me and I know what kind of stick you are, so bothering to watch a film of someone just getting owned, I rather just tell that person he could of just said "Good kill, what did I do wrong? if so can you help me get better?"

But they ought to know better than say (e.g.) a Ta is turning like a hurricane.  That's like the spitfire/la7 helicopter thing.  It's funny and accurate enough for a caricature, and dangit those dweeby planes deserve it.. But it's another thing to say it seriously and spread rumors of it.

I believe you are 100% correct Moot. However, when I first came back there were several people who were questionable. Guess what, they are no longer around. Still though, I cannot argue with your 99.99999% theory.

BTW Adonai, I'm one of those guys who has been around for a long time and still can't fight worth beans.

Well it depends if its a seasoned veteran player or just some random new guy on his 2 week trial. If its some veteran and he didn't ask you what he did wrong then its all his fault. However if it was a new guy thats calling you out just offer him to goto the training arena to learn a few tricks and ask what he did wrong. Seriously if they want to make an excuse why a "ta152" out turns their spitfire then it goes to show they didnt even look at gonzo's to see the turn radius of a 152 vs whatever to begin with.

Nice ping from 500 out. I can't hit watermelon past 400 with MG151's.
I have to say though, aside from the all around nice flying, I don't see anything special about that film? Except that you did that with a DT on...

Hm, you didn't watch the film, did you?

Huh...one wonders why you didn't use your "hack" to save yourself from being gang-banged by the Spit and F4U at the end of the film?  :huh

Perfect example of what Mr. Miyagi said. "Walk down right side of road, okay. Walk down left side of road, okay. Walk down middle of the road *splaaat*" The other pilot didn't seem to know whether he wanted to slow down and turn with you, or keep his smash and E fight you. Either option would have let a 109 beat a 152 without too much trouble, but not choosing either went badly for the other guy.

Pretty average/crappy flying on my part yep.. It makes my point even better :)  :D

Oh quit it!  :D Honestly, excessive modesty gets as annoying as the chest-beating monkeyism sometimes...You KNOW you did something special/unexpected/fairly badass with that Ta-152, otherwise you wouldn't have know you were going to be called "hacker" before it happened!

My personal favourite is my "BS stall move" which is actually just quick use of flaps. Some clown came in with a 109F with E on me and copped a head full of 20mm after the first turn while I was in a 190D9.

Spanking someone and then being called a 'hacker', 'cheater' or 'BS something or other' is one of the best compliments you can get.

It means that not only did you win the fight, you did it so convincingly against all odds that they cannot understand it.

Good job, m00t.

Sadly,  I've never been accused of cheating.

I need to seriously up my game.

The funny thing is i slowed the film almost a stop when you fired the tators m00t and he survived 2 tator hits. So would that make him the one with the hack?
Title: Re: Perfect example of
Post by: moot on June 23, 2008, 01:54:29 AM
jaxxo - I'd shot my load.

Nisky, I've gotten some films to give tater hits where there weren't any, when the film's played really slow.  I can't recall if in this film there were two tater hits, but I did bug off when I saw the first one land, thinking it had hit the wing.

They were straight fuselage hits one in the engine and one right in front of the cockpit or in the cockpit i couldnt tell. The only time ive seen a plane take a 30mm hit with no damage (besides bombers) was a P51 right behind the cockpit and he flew away no damage. Even from his cockpit i saw the hit sprites.

How many of you have seen the ole "flying cockpit?"

Thought I had jedi25 dead to rights once in his F6F cockpit only aircraft............ As he fired bullets from the imaginary wings even.......

But after a film review by HTC, my email response tells me that jedi25 simply knows how to exploit a bug in the gamecode.  This bug was to be fixed in Patch 4.

This was 3 months ago, we've patched since then but the other night I had a squadie record the same thing again.

Sometimes we immediately think cheater..........  But after that email from SKuzzy, I now expect just about anything to be "not cheating"

And a few people comment about hit sprites.... The algorithm bullet spray uses to generate graphics in game, does not calculate directly from firing vector.  You don't always see what you think you saw.

Cockpit only what?
