I'm sure this has come up before but what was going on last night has prompted me to bring it up.
A function to turn off ground-pounder radio traffic would be fantastic. I couldn't get a word in edge-ways last night because the bananas on the ground trying to take TT wouldn't shut up. There was a flood of pointless chatter from not just one or two guys on the ground but a whole bunch of them.... too many to squelch whilst in the middle of a fight.
Is there any reason why ground pounders feel the need to yell over range? "NO, no, no! Over to the left! See there, the left! No, your other left! Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's moving, yeah by that hill. No near that tree!" blah blah blah blah.
FFS. :furious :lol
Perhaps an option for ground pounders to transmit on ground only? Range 1 and Range 2, for example. That way, if a big furball develops over a GV fight the fighter jocks can effectively communicate and so can the GV guys. Or the addition could go the other way and 'Range 2' could be transmit/receive air traffic only. I understand that air and ground guys need to communicate sometimes but I'm sure this isn't an isolated event and the option to cut ground chatter would be very refreshing. :pray
:salute
I'd just suggest that people be short and considerate with their radio transmissions but I know I'm dreaming with that one.
Cheers,

i agree 10000000000000000000000000000 00%
the cross chatter is too much when you are in a serious fight

A button to momentarily mute ground vox would be useful, yep.. Same thing with all vox, when you need quiet immediately.
-
while we are at it can we have a bass button too to bring some of the voices down a few octaves. Excess chatter can be bearable sometimes, but not when my ears are bleeding.

I like the idea of a range (air) and a range (ground). You need to be able to tune between them, though, for CAS.

Perhaps my second idea of retaining the standard range channel in order to maintain effective air/ground comms but adding an air-only range channel as 'Range 2' would be the easiest way to cut the ground chatter.

Hello Xasthur. This is a great idea, but may need some tweaking. I would suggest 3 range channels-1 air, 2 ground, 3 common. There are just as many motor-mouths in the air as there are on the ground, so the situation needs to be solved both ways.

Simply letting the enemy drop a couple of eggs or fire a couple of 88mm suppositories works for me. :) :salute

No need for fifty channels.. Just a button to mute the ground if you're in the air, and air if you're on the ground. The impertinent chatter can get pretty bad, but more often than not it's not excessive and/or is useful.
And if HTC add another channel (which if I understand right, means bandwidth, so they're likely to add as little as possible), it would be better if it were a dedicated wingman channel.

How about this approach?
In the radio drop down menu, please add a "7-Ground Range" or something like that. Anything intuitive to get those on the ground war on a channel other than range for tactical communications. I spent half the night shouting on tuned channel because the ground chatter was non-stop in some areas where air combat was also taking place.

Give F11 only air command? And give F10 only ground command? F12 is for all?
(I mapped my range key as "T" so I can keep my fingers rested on the "Z"oom button and the "T"ransmit range button.. It will be more complicated for me after this though...)

The problem with segregating air and ground right off the bat is that there's a lot of useful communication between the two, even if they both can get in each other's way under traffic. It'd be throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

thats why you still have the All Range button. But you also have Ground Range, and Air Range.

Sounds good, but it won't be an improvement if it means that much more traffic on HTC's end, like I think it does. Having a mute-ground and/or mute-air and/or mute all (not directly related to this problem but useful too) would be cheaper alternative(s) in bandwidth at the (very) small extra cost of one finger to press one button/key.

Well, thats just my way of thinking about it. :) It could work, I dont know though.

What if they didn't actually add another channel but instead added volume sliders for primary and secondary range channels.
The way it would work is if your flying, then aircraft are primary, and if your gv'ing then well gv's are primary. So now when your flying you could lower the gv volume to whatever you want and vica versa.
Also, primary would take precedent over secondary when two people are yelling at the same time. So if you're flying when a gv guy, and your wingman are trying to speak at the same time, the gv guy's vox gets clipped.
