Before I make my request, I'd like to thank the HT team that did the updates to the Ships in the game. The work on the fleet has been a huge improvement in game play and the overall aesthetics of AH2.
Along those lines, now that we have Destroyers with manned 5 inch guns, what I'd love to see is the ability to spawn an individual destroyer at ports and at the PT spawn points.
Obviously you'd need to add a "bridge" to these spawned destroyers (with the throttle tied to a bridge telegraph, etc), but little else would need to be changed.
As I see it; the destroyer would be a perk vehicle, similar to the Tiger in value. They would be easily spotted as player vehicles rather than part of a fleet by a "DD" icon (similar to the "PT" icon). Their addition would create more naval elements in the game and would allow us to do historical "Narvik" and "Tokyo Express" scenarios etc.
Thoughts?

Me too. :aok

this would be a great addition :aok

I like it... but maybe more than a Tiger.... how bout on the order of 100 perkies? Either that, or only spawned out of Ports. (you may have meant this)
-
That would Keep them knuckle heads from bringing a CV right to shore......Hummmmm No it wouldn't because they do that with shore battery! I'd rather 5" guns at shore bases! :aok
-
I like it!

If it spawns with 5 inch guns and the ability to take a gunner, give it 200 perk value. that thing can pretty much level a whole field/town, and can vulch a field if close enough.

make them The Atlanta class cruisers were United States Navy light cruisers designed originally as flotilla leaders but which ended up gaining recognition as effective anti-aircraft cruisers during World War II. With eight dual 5" gun mounts (six centerline), the first run of Atlanta class cruisers had by far the heaviest anti-aircraft broadside of any warship of World War II, at over 17,600 pounds (10,560 kg) per minute of highly-accurate, radar-fuzed VT ordnance. The later ships omitted the two wing mounts, reducing the overall broadside but improving firing arcs.
The lead ship, USS Atlanta (CL-51) was laid down on 22 April 1940, launched on 6 September 1941, and commissioned at the New York Navy Yard on 24 December 1941.
or for less perks
The Andromeda class attack cargo ships were built by Federal Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. in Kearny, New Jersey and Moore Dry Dock Co., in Oakland, California;during World War II. The armament was 1x5" 4x 40mm 16x 20mm

make them The Atlanta class cruisers
why not use the cruiser class that we allready have?
-
because our cruisers have 8'' guns that can level a town in about 10 minutes. A destroyer OR cruiser with only 5'' guns and 20mm guns would do.
-
'Cause they were "anti aircraft cruisers" which is what I thought was being asked for.

Have the destroyer for some perkies and the cruiser for even more.

Two ok's! One for each idea. :aok :aok

I like it but how about something a little different as long as it needs to be developed. How about destroyer escorts?
Three 3-inch/50 caliber guns
Twin 40 mm guns
Nine twin 20 mm guns
24-missile hedgehog (144 rounds),
Two depth charge racks
Eight K-guns
Slave the guns like the PT Boats and Bombers.
BTW, I've been aboard the Slater when I lived in Albany NY. Very cool.

Nah go with the Fletcher class dd, allot made, and more than that is that my Gpa was a helmsman on one during the battle for san bernidino straight, he made the yamoto which is the most powerful battleship EVER disengage from batle, it was 5 5inchers, and 10 torp tubes in 2 sets of 5. go team htc and get it done
-
i would die and got to heaven in this came true. but it looks like im going to stand outside those pearly gates for a long time :pray :pray :pray
-
To all who replied, thanks much for the input! The reason I suggested just going with the regular Destroyers we have in the fleet currently was to create a minimum of extra work for HTC. My thinking is initially just adapt the existing DD, and then later introduce other Destroyers and Classes as the game continues to develop.
Plus like any other ride they could be differently skinned like the PTs.

sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet :rock ;) :salute :rock :aok :lol :) :O :D :P :rofl

Agree, perk them to keep them from being abused, but please htc we WANT them. :)
-
I would agree that a perked Destroyer would be fun and welcome by many and if you had destroyers, submarines would be a logical extension of that. :)
-
i love the idea! :aok would be a great addition to the game :)

How about older destroyers instead of a Destroyer Escort. Give us a Ward Class Destroyer instead of lets say a Fletcher Class.
-
If your only going to have a SINGLE unit at your command, why not a BATTLE SHIP WORTH (???) perkies?? You know, something with a little more, BAM! to it? While your at it, get me a beer.
-
If your only going to have a SINGLE unit at your command, why not a BATTLE SHIP WORTH (???) perkies??
Because we already have a Destroyer and a Cruiser in the game.

'Cause its too big. And no your not old enough yet......

Ward is not a class you mean Uss Ward a Wickes Class? if so sure. Its arrmiment was 4 1x4"/50 cal,1 1x3"/25 AA
12 21" torpedo tubes. Again this ship didn't have greaty AA abilities.
-
I like the idea very much. I'm thinking it would be a good idea to limit the number of rogue naval vessels we have running around.
Also, allowing 2 gunners per ship would be good, too. The "pilot", and a gunner. No more.
-
There are many good ideas out there for improving gameplay. This is one of them.
-
I've always wondered; if an idea in the wish-list gets mostly positive feedback from the player community like say ummmm.... this one, how does it affect the chances of it being implemented by HTC? Do they actually shop ideas from this forum?
How exactly does interaction between this forum and our respected and beloved game designers work?

I would say they be perked around the 40-60s and that if u want to be a gunner u at least have to pay 5 perks or just be like bomber gunners and be free(whitch i would go for).and like fleet destroyers there be auto guns, not every where just in the areas where the fleet destroyers have theirs.
-
If we were to use cruisers too I'd like the New Orleans class.
Type: Heavy Cruiser
Displacement: 9,950 tons
Length: 588 ft 2 in (179.3 m)
Beam: 61 ft 9 in (18.8 m)
Draft: 19 ft 5 in (5.9 m)
Propulsion:
4 Parsons/Westinghouse geared turbines
8 Babcock & Wilcox boilers
4 screws
107000 Horsepower
Speed: 32.7 knots
Complement: 708 officers and enlisted
Armament: 9 × 8 in (203 mm)
8 × 5 in (127 mm)[1]
8 × .50 (~12.7 mm) calibre guns
Armor: 3-5 inch belt
1.25-2.25 inch deck
1.5-8 inch turrets
5 inch barbettes (6.5 inch barbettes in CA 38)
5 inch CT

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't destroyer escorts anti-submarine ships :huh? Therefore, since we don't have submarines, why do we need them again? Don't get me started on the 2 5 "s. :o
-
Seagoon I've seen it happen several times over the years.
Granted it doesn't happen every week, or even every patch. But when a truly good idea comes along that fits where he wants AH to go HT is smart enough to grab it. Which is part of the mystique of why people post here, and its why you should search first. If it has already been posted once, there really is no possible use of repeating it.
HTC doesn't bow to pressure of any kind from anyone. Period.
So if it didn't get picked up the first time it was posted it won't be picked up this time either, or the 29th time, or the 332nd time.
And yes this is one of those ideas that should be used!

You are correct, although I thought it might be nice to have something different, and slightly less powerful than the DD so this didn't get too wild. The destryer escorts still had 3" guns, good AA defense and torpedos. You could still have fun in them, plus they're faster.
-
very nice :aok :rock
-
This might just be the craziest thing I have heard all day...
... But I like it darn it!!!
-
How about rather than a perk value, say that perhaps in order to take one of these boats out you need X amount of people before you can spawn one? Perhaps for the number of gun positions or something?
Kinda like a crew, perhaps it could even be tied into Rank/Score somehow so that you dont get say everyone who's managed to get 200 vehicle perks (it isn't hard) spawning them all at the same place and absoutely mincing a base?
Just an "out of the box thought" for consideration ?
-
Maybe for additional perkies we could get one of these
http://strangevehicles.greyfalcon.us/AVISO%20GRILLE.htm
or these

The idea is AWESOME!!!!!!!!! :D ;) :) :lol :aok :salute

I love it, use the AA crusiers though. That be fun as hell. Maybe gove them the ability as a spawn point for landing craft?
-
Think this is one of the Great Ideas to come along in a while.
Would be nice to have a piloted version of the DD we have now, that would avoid bringing the CV fleet right up on the "Beach." like most players do.
Would also like to see a more substantial type of vessel that brings the rebuilding materials to the strats and fields as to make it a better target for players. Such as a regular cargo ship instead of the barges.

Agreed im with stupid. Not you the guy you quoted.
-
love it but i already posted it.

I like the idea, but quick question....
If they only spawn from ports; your looking at a 30-90 minute drive to the targe base right?
And thats assuming its within a close general area to the port.
Unless of course we are talking for strictly port defense. Then my case is rested.
-
Considering there are some who have no issues flying 30-90 minutes on a long range buff run, or camping a GV spawn patiently waiting for an hour or more, sailing a perk cruiser to level an enemy base would not be at all surprising.
