So I read Bozon's old 'So, you want to fly the wooden wonder...' thread based teaching people how to put the 'F' in Mosquito FB.VI, I was wondering if anyone had any good tips or similar writeups concerning the new and improved Mossie.
Here's the link to the Bozon's thread: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,206568.0.html
thanks!

Yes, STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. Once you fly the mossie you will become hooked and see no need to fly any other plane. :lol
Its a terrific plane with lazers on the front, gotta love it.

Always remember to turn the Combat Trim off before you engage.

Like on the P-38...
though im going to have to trim manually a lot.. could i continue with using rough trim? just blink it on and off and only adjust elevator to avoid the 'floating'?

That's pretty much what I do. But I am by no means an authority, hopefully one of the "real" Mossie sticks will chime in here.

You can do whatever works for you. My advice would be to try different approaches to maintaining trim and go with the one that works best for you. Don't forget about the "hold angle" autopilot mode as a trim adjustment approach.

Once the combat trim is off... then what? Just let if float or exactly how should we manually adjust it? Once source says to set it near the bottom of the "L". Concur? I took up a Mossi and didnt seem to be able to change the trim once I turn off the combat trim. I hit "I and K" multiple times and nada, no change. Help! The Mossi is my fav plane!!!

Smokin:
While I'm no expert in the mossie it's a fav of mine.
I use both manual and combat trim, only cause I'm lazy.
When you use manual trim, trim it neutral for level flight.
-
the only problem with that is what ends up happening is rudder and aileron trim are going to have to be dealt with.
im really not used to it yet heheh.
SmokinLoon, you dont have to turn it off then manually adjust. you can just adjust it from there and combat trim will turn off and will stay off until you turn it on again. check your controls again to see if they I and K are your elevator trim keys.
-
I trim the Mosquito the same way I trim the 38. Which is neutral, or a little nose up in the 38, a little nose down in the mossie. I've found that if left on it's own the mossie wants to pull it's nose up dramatically.
I have an X52 flight stick. The throttle on the x52 has these two big round knobby dials on it. These can be set to a position and they will stay there. I use these for my trim. This way when I turn off auto trim, the two dials are already set and the trim just goes to those pretty much pre-set positions.
Due to counter rotating props I don't need to touch the rudder. In fact I don't have the rudder trim mapped anymore. I have the elevator and ailerons set on the stick. And that really just for compensating for damage. Which I am far to busy to do while taking damage so will just turn the auto back on if the trim gets that far out of whack in either plane.
Most of the time I forget to turn off the auto trim anyway.

If you keep your speed up with coordinated turns and using lots of high and low yo-yos you can really make a good showing for yourself in the mossy.
You don't have to worry so much about the nasty spin that the old "wooden wonder" tips went over so much. They fixed the CoG problem in a recent patch.
Take advantage of any snapshots your opponet provides, your 4 20mm hizookas will certainly punish them for offering the shot.
I'd try to leave yourself at least 5k alt to work with, you may need to use a lot of nose low manuevers to avoid getting caught with no E, as you are a big wooden target and like the p38 people will tend to come gang and pick at you.
Have fun! Post up if you learn or see anything interesting!

:huh The FB.VI engines spin the same direction and need to be controlled with the rudder.
-
What...? No wonder it kept going left on taxi. Who the hell would make a plane like... of wait... never mind. The same dudes who came up with the English language.
My bad.

Hehe. One has to wonder though just how much better/faster/more menouverable the Mossi would have been with counter rotating props.
Also, one has to ponder if they would have left out the quad .303 British and allowed for few more 20mm rounds, or even dual .50 cals instead. The .303's are simply worthless in the attack role.
-
They might not do much against ground targets, but those 4 .303's sure can chainsaw a wing off.
-
The .303's were used mostly for spotting for the 20mm. Pretty useful tool, but a lot of excess weight.
Also, the engines spin in the same direction because the Brits decided that more a/c could be built, repaired and maintained more easily with the use of the same engines. That's why they didn't want handed engines when they got their Lightnings because it really worked up maintenance time and production time.
