Alright, FDB's talk the talk, but can they walk the walk?
Post your films of MA chute-shooting here, along with your evaluation of other people's submissions.
Submissions should be judged on a 1-10 scale in the following categories:
Difficulty
Style
Sacrifice of Tactical advantage
victim's whine
Artistic Impression

Ah.. come on.. you show us yours, we'll show you ours (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
I have one of an excellent sortie recorded.. 4 or 5 kills, though pretty boring. I call low fuel and ammo and head for home. On the way back a chute is suspend co-alt directly in front of me. I had just enough ammo (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I'd be interested! If some day HTC made some enhancments to the chute damage model.
A 37mm shell has the same impact as a 20mm one and neither is different that from a .50 calibre bullet.

Still waiting for a .45 with a clip, for the chutist to fire back, imagine the look on Creamo's face if one got a perfect cockpit shot? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

No films yet, but will start recording. Meanwhile best I can do is a screen shot...

LOL! I liked that one Fatty (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I don't have any films either, but I'll start immediately. My favorite open channel responce to me to date was, believe it or not, from Hblair. Was a looong time ago. Somehow I managed to kill him, and despite the fact that 3 or 4 of his squad/country mates were buzzing around, I gave up all of my alt and dove in and killed him in his chute.
He called me out on open and told me how much of a retard I was. I'd call him a whiner for it, but he was probably just so stupified by what he had just saw, he couldn't help it...and the fact that it was pretty retarded (not that I don't still perform such manuevers to this day). And yes, I did get killed seconds after hitting his chute. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I constantly disengage my targets to go down below and strafe a chute.
I really dont know but it has come to the point were killing a chut is even more satisfactory than shooting down a plane
you know what i hate? those times you put a lot of rounds on a chute and they still survive
I dont have films tho I always forget to film things, but ive done some pretty bizarre stuff
-
Here's one just to stoke the pot.
Simple, clean
http://members.home.net/dinger666/ding1.ahf (http://members.home.net/dinger666/ding1.ahf)
My evaluation:
Difficulty: 4
There were no friendlies nearby who might steal the kill, and I had all the time in the world to line up the chute.
Style: 6
Very little ammo wasted; shot from close in, chute dies after pullout. Technically proficient, but nothing special.
Sacrifice: 7
While the highest friendly in the area, I leave the protection of the base and the clouds of friendlies to nail the chute. I also blow precious altitude. Note the clouds of enemies around me.
victim's whine: 0
Aristic impression: 6.5
Nice, poetic in its simplicity.

lol SOB, I think I remember the time you're talking about. Looong time ago, at least a year. I have grown more tolerant of those with "alternate preferences" in recent times. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)
I came from warbirds with all my noble values. I lost them after getting cornholed here a few times. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif)
Although I still don't shoot chutes, I often get a good laugh watching people go for mine.

Hblair, I might have the film but it'd be old format if I did, you did indeed strafe the lot of us on top of beer mountain once (after we'd all bailed and were running around around the shiner bottle).

Thought this might help get everybody in the right frame of mind. Excerpt from a respected book on the psyche of sheep shaggers and their related disorders.
Chute shooting SOB; a study of the thought process supporting this terrible disorder:
0:00:00- Ooh look, a chute dangling in the air, how pretty!
0:00:01- I sure wish I had some dr. pepper right now.
0:00:03- I wonder if Mason has posted any nice porn on the bb...I'll have to check that.
0:00:04- hmmm, I should get some distance quickly for a good steady guns pass at this guy's chute.
0:00:06- corn dogs would go nice with dr. pepper. i'll head to 7-11 after this sortie.
0:00:07- sweet! the poor bastard opened his chute at 1,000ft AGL! time enough for a couple of passes if my horrible gunnery creates the need.
0:00:10- steady, steady, fire...oooh pretty hit sparks! he must have a metal plate in his head.
0:00:11- wow, that metal plate is strong! he ain't dead yet!
0:00:13- mmmmm, corn dogs
0:00:14- why is creamo circling my chute? I better get turned around quick before that bastard steals it from me!
0:00:16- wtf? now nash is eye-ing my chute too?!? oh well, it almost makes me respect that canuck!
0:00:18- steady, must kill on this pass or he's someone else's little piggy!
0:00:19- oooooh, purty boom boom! i'm thirsty, where's my dr. pepper.
0:00:20- damn I'm good! I can't kill planes yet, but if i find a guy in a chute, i own his ass!
0:00:21- boy, gordo sure is a sissy.
0:00:25- i think that grey text is for me, it says "hey chute shooter you are suck, only a spineless dirtbag would do that".
0:00:26- hmmm, poor guy, I don't think he feels loved enough in his home life, I should say something nice and witty to him.
0:00:27- <blank canvas>
0:00:28- i should auger and go to 7-11.
Truely a profound study. We'll be analyzing the results and getting back to you with our conclusions!

HTC Fix the Chute Damage Model Now!
Luftwaffe Chutes Are Undermodeled! Opportunist Oppression!
Seriously, we need a real gun camera that records when we fire. I would love to be able to show my greatest chute kills, but alas, I don't like to scan through hours of film to get to the action, so I don't run the recorder much at all.

Rounded this one up:
Chute Shooting (http://www.dbstaines.com/images/5easykills.ahf)
Overall, I give it a 6.7. The sortie was pretty cool with 5 pretty basic kills capped off by a chute at 3k just hanging there on the way home. I even had time to comment on how irresistable the chute was... just hanging there... taunting me (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Copied my reply to another thread to get more responses:
If you dont want to be shot in your shoot, dont bail. If you bail, expect to be shot. I dont shoot chutes but the only reason is that I dont want to waste ammo.
Frankly, these threads are inspiring me to change that habit and take it up as a game sport.
Any tips from the long time chute shooters?
-
Aim for the body, not the chute. Chutes got dang tough around 1.05 or so.
-
Something satisfying about hitting them in freefall (http://home.flash.net/~collis/films/freefall.ahf), before they pull the chute.
It's a very small file (70k), after Dingy's request started toggling the recorder on initial approach to try to get some good ones.

Wish I had film, but I may have won the "anti-chute shooting" contest if I had...
I decided to take a Spit IX into a pack that contained 3-4 F4U's, a P-51B, a Nikki, a P-47, and perhaps a Spit or two thrown in. I saw two countrymen there and decided to help a bit.
In short, I screwed myself and knew it full well going in.
Naturally by the time I got there the friends were all dead. I still managed to get two of them before the P-51 I had chased took the opportunity to rejoin the pack for the kill.
Hi, Cit!
Anyway, I am dangling from the chute and I see a 1C level his nose at me and chop throttle... yup, he's gonna gun me down, and he's going nice and slow to make sure of it. I face him, extending my middle finger defiantly as he charges in....
...pingpingpingpingpingpingpi ngpingpingping....
Nothing! I land and exit laughing my head off. I go to channel 1 and say "hehe, even with 20's you couldn't kill it". (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Just couldn't resist the reverse-taunt.
Maybe the squad channel was full of "Dammit, the ballistics of the 20mm are way off! Declassified WWII data says that Hispanos should blow a hole the size of Antarctica in nylon. I'm gonna go find all my documents and post a dissertation on the BBS!"
...or maybe he just said "Sh*t, I missed!" (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Copied from another thread to enter competition:
I was flying at about 8k in my Seafire when a higher N1K engaged me. The N1K attacked with a HO which I avoided by pulling up into the vertical with an early turn. Rolling while in the vertical I pulled through onto the 6 of the niki and pulled inside his turn to pepper him with 20mm shells. His plane fell apart and I rolled wings level.
I then remembered some disturbing radio chatter about a dweeb niki pilot in the same area shooting a typhoon driver while he was in his chute.
A sly smile crept across my features as I pulled my seafire into an immelman and lined up on the chute. I pulled through the strafing pass and pulled the trigger for about half a second. The chute disappeared in a satisfying puff of flame and smoke.
Only two regrets: The niki pilot did not whine on channel 1 (guess he was the guy who shot the Typh chute before ) and I forgot to roll film to get a screenshot for Dinger's competition.
P.S. Thanks FDB's for your helpful advice on chute shooting.
I rate this as a 9.6. Technical difficulty was reasonably high with other enemy cons in the area. I give it high points based on stylish execution and minimal ammo waste.

http://www.matthoffman.cc/bb/2chutes.ahf (http://www.matthoffman.cc/bb/2chutes.ahf)
Difficulty
I had to dive in steep, and kick rudder hard to get a shot on the second chute. This was a bomber/gunner pair of a bomber that I played no part in downing. I can't see hits on the second chute in the film, but it definitely exploded when I flew by it in the arena.
Style
You'll notice I splash quite a bit of sea water onto the first chutist by hurling plenty of ammo into the ocean. I assure you this had little to do with my horrible gunnery and everything to do with adding insult to injury, as the salty water would surely irritate his wounds. Alas, it seems both of these fellas were carrying TNT in their pockets and exploded into little bits and unlikely experienced the desired effects I was trying for.
Sacrifice of Tactical advantage
While there were no threats in the immediate area, I did sacrifice my 12k of alt.
victim's whine
It is in this category that I am sorely lacking. These gentlemen must've been good sports, and may have even enjoyed the experience, as I got no verbal abuse on either public or private comms.
Artistic Impression
My victory roll on the climb out, signifying my satisfaction at the ability to down such hostile foes!

I haven't been killing many chutes lately and my gunnery is suffering because of it.

Keep 'em coming.
AKDJV: your first film is pretty good, although for full points the chute should have contained the guy you shot down three times in a row.
The second film ("Central gets a kill") is amusing, without doubt, but perhaps belongs more in the category of "Kills by Chutes" than chute-shooting.
--
SOB: nice entry but the submission doesn't really show that you delivered a lethal blow to either chute. Therefore, while your report is undoubtedly valid, you'll need to capture something good on film.
--
Creamo: Definitely you've got the whine/taunt part covered. Now let's see some action shots!
--
Fatty: you've definitely got the leader so far. I counted about a dozen hits on a free-falling "chute" from 450-350 yards. The guy disintegrates before he can pull the ripcord..
Keep those submissions coming in!

me thinks the ole chute shooting was more prevalent in real life than anyone would care to admit.
They could spit out a new plane a lot faster than a new pilot.
In the game, I only shoot at chutes hanging around a base in "spy" mode. Sad fact is, I can't recall killing one (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
If AH were to act on my perk point suggestion:

it'd warrant chute shooting.

I think I've been robbed.
I was in the arena last night nearing A7 when two planes HO'd each other right in front of me. The enemy F6F was awarded the kill (it was fatty!) and was now without one of his wings.. on his way to crashing in the ocean.
I knew this was my chance. I fired up the recorder and dove after the plunging plane.. just waiting for the chute. I closed within 500 yards knowing I'd have to nail it to get the kill... working over the witty rhetoric I'd throw out on channel one to solicit the proper response. No chute. He just augered. I was robbed.
So... <finger> to you fatty. Deprive me of an FDB chute kill will ya?!? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
BTW.. I have a really great free-fall kill too.. but fatty wins that by virtue of being first to present the film. The bastard!

I like em so far, but what they're missing (mine included) is a true risk in getting the chute. Show me a film of a guy diving through a sea of red icons for that evil, despicable, silk laden menace, and he'll have my vote.
-
Is that film last nite over A10 SOB? There were quite a few cons in the area at the time if it was.
That doesnt count Fatty? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
-
Nope. You need at least 2 closing on your 6 that you completely ignore to kill the true enemy.
-
Yup, it's over A10. Fatty's right, there weren't nearly enough cons there to warrant any praise.
The best situation for what he's speaking of arises when you fly in on the tail end of an assault only to find all of your country mates dead and you faced with a sky full of defenders. If you're lucky, your force downed a few that are still in the silk. That's when it's time to completely ignore and amaze your soon-to-be-killers by going after their helpless country mates floating slowly to the ground. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
SOB
-
Damn...I will have to review my film of the incident in question then. I guess I only had 1 con closing on me at the time.
