Great skin. How will you get it in with all those in line waiting?

Well two options.  I replace one of mine already in... or I put it in the queue.

Very nice skin Fencer. I'd have thought the lack of a similar PTO skin might bump it up the queue a bit.

Thanks.

There are two Pacific theater skins in now...

From Hammer's excellent site.. www.netaces.org

I notice what skins are flown on the Mustang, as it is my favorite plane and I seem to end up fighting them alot!  It is amazing that alot of the skins seem not to be used, or at least not seen by me in the many times I run into them online.  I wonder if this is true for other planes, I am sure it is.  It is a shame as people put alot of time into doing these.  I am always of the opinion that doing a skin for a specific "Squadron" that is in game that will use it is the best use of my time.  Yet there are several other P-51s that I am going to do, both Pacific and European, I don't care if they sit on HTCs cpu in a 'queue', I just like doing P-51 skins. :)

Personally, the few skins I have done are purely for myself. If I don't see any skins I like for a plane in game, I go and find a bird from World War Two I think is sexy and skin it! Kinda selfish, but it leaves me happy.

I haven't heard much of 51s in the Pacific.  I've seen it on the infamous History Channel though :lol Anyone have any good reading about them?

So as to not to tax your young mind, just watch the P-51 episode of Dogfights.  :)

Very nice, Fencer.   Much prefer Dunham's Pac Pony to the other two.   Nice skin.

Hey Fencer,

Maybe you should make a "MATCHING SET."   :aok

Major Dunham's P-47D-23-RA (s/n: 42-27884) when he was C.O. of the 460th FS of the 348th FG during the Invasion of the Philippines in 1944.

Good article on William Dunham's P-47's here:  http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2007/08/profile-p47-thunderbolt-william-dunham.htm

I remember this is the first model kit I ever got - the old REVELL 1/32 scale P-47D Razorback in these colors - my Dad bought it for me when I was 6 years old - MANY years ago. Always loved the scheme ever since.

 :salute

Fencer, first, I'm pumped you did this.  I haven't made the time or have had the patience to finish any of my 348th skin projects.  Overall, it looks fantastic.  In all the pictures, even ones in flight, that I've seen, the plane was kept immaculate.  I appreciate the cleanliness--he actually did get a kill in this aircraft, but I think it looks better without the gun soot.  Most pictures I have show verly little exhaust soot as well.

Now for some detailed criticism.

1)  The font of "Miss Bonnie" doesn't match that of the pictures I have.  I don't have a scanner, but there should be a profile from "12 to 1" that shows the nose art, and something you can probably work with.

2)  The script on the canopy frame reads "Pilot - L Col Dunham" from pictures I have.

3)  You're missing the bomb mission markings and the two sunken ships from the aft black kill board.  Its similar to the way they were drawn on his P-47

Thanks Stoney.

I am working from two sources.  A profile in Opsrey Aces #26 which has the two squares aft of the kill board both black without markings, and his name on the cockpit railing as shown on the skin.  I will see what I can do about the name font.

The second source is a picture of the plane post hostilities on Ie Shima.  At that time he had added the markings you describe on the aft board.  So I left that blank, if you have any photo's showing the plane in July or August let me know.

Seeing how he picked up his 16th kill in this aircraft, you could argue that the bomb mission markings and sunken ships were added before hostilities ceased, as they're displayed on the plane when he only had 15 kills.

Thanks for the pics Dan...

The top pic is the one I had which was identified as being after cessation of hostilities.

The bottom pic I have never seen before.  Interesting that the 16th kill is in the upper and the ships are in both.. I think I will add the ships and bombs.

Very nice Rogerdee!  Maybe turn up the specularity a bit to make it "shine" a little?  Or is that just an effect of the in-game lighting?

Bravo, Rogerdee.   Very nice on the details, shading and weathering especially look good.

One thing - I have never seen this bird depicted with black paint on antiglare and fuselage top.  Its more like to have been the standard flat green or olive drab, isn't it?

Are you working from a color pic or painting, or B&W image?

Dan can probably post pictures that we can compare the colors with.  I've never seen a color photo of this plane, but you can tell from the b/w pictures that exist that the vertical striping on the fuselage matches the shade of the anti-glare.

Roger your black wing stripes are not wide enough.  Look at what Jester posted up thread.

And black was used as a cowling anti-glare,especially in the pacific.
