Title: Milk running vs. Getting the arena started
Post by: Anaxogoras on July 01, 2008, 10:44:28 PM
So JG11 flew in the DA today because no one was in the AvA arena, because of TT?  I know one of the rules is that one is not supposed to fly without opposition, but there ought to be a window of time, e.g. prime time, where one side can start to 'milkrun' for the purpose of enticing others into the arena.

Prime time in what timezone?  CET?

I flew in TT because nobody was in AvA.  The first in do need something to do.  The only thing available for the first in is jabo (milk run).

Also, please populate the forward fields next round (at least 2 opposing forward fields) even if the commanders have to agree to "give" each side one equivalent ride (like a 109F and Spit V) and base them close to each other.  It will give people something to do before the numbers get up.

This is a really good suggestion.  Although the BOA setup has placed a strategically realistic emphasis on bombing, there needs to be a place to furball if one wants to.

Side commnaders will have to agree to "leave these fields alone" in order for this good suggestion to work out.

Even then they won't be able to guarantee the safety of those fields.

I am telling you as a player right now, that regardless of what ever agreements are made by the commanders if those fields represent a credible threat during the war I will fly over and pork the hell out of them.

The other side will use those fields to progress the war.

Telling people not to use them, or not to bomb them is akin to the political bombing halts during Vietnam.

Since the side commanders are powerless to keep their sub-ordinates from either using the fields to progress the war, or attacking the fields, any agreements made between them are useless.

That's getting a bit extreme Drack. This is a war game not a war. Hell it's really a flight sim that's been turned into a wargame.  It's not life or death nothing hangs in the balance, and there needs to be a way to keep people engaged in the arena not run them off. Let's keep it in perspective a bit.  I'd also expect you to obey the rules of the arena, and the setup. There is nothing in this game akin to Vietnam, seriously bud. ;)

It might be possible for the Staff to disable the ord at whatever fields are deemed furball fields. That way the war players wont use them or view them as some kind of threat will and maybe be inclined to ignore them. Maybe this will allow the furballs to proceed without some wargamers thinking they need to destroy them.

Hopefully the commanders will populate the forward fields this time so it is not even an issue.  The war should be a backdrop to a combat simulator.  There are hundreds of AHII players interested in flying in AvA if it offers a good fair fight that can be had in a resonable amount of time.

I don't think it matters if we have rules or not.  Please make sure to have two opposing fields with aircraft that will make a good matchup.  Reduce hanger downtime if porking becomes an issue.  Worst case if the commanders decide not to populate forward fields, then put in the Spit V and 109F.  Neither of these aircraft are huge strategic threats.

I made another one of my long winded picture evals, with suggestions on where to put these non threatening planes. But it's late and I'm too tired to post thje pics and write it all. I'll do it tomorrow.
