I didn't listen to the Rollins CD from my kid's collection yet. I went to youtube instead... listened to a song or two (boy, he's agressive!)... but then got sidetracked watching his stand up. I think he's awesome. :lol :aok
Oh... but I think I'm not going to post any links until after I can find one where there's not the f-bomb every other word.
Anyhow, I must have lived a sheltered life to not ever listened to H.R. Nice. :aok

Not that I'd admit here, anyhow. ;)

Seriously, I'm not. Here's the whole tattoo thing:
My squaddie just got bit by a coral snake & spent almost a week in the hospital. He's a relatively new guy... and hasn't sent me a picture for our squad website yet. So I was gonna put a picture of a coral snake tattoo in place of a picture of him on our website. Because a picture of a snake ain't too manly... but a picture of a tattoo is okay. :) I didn't say that's why earlier because I didn't ask his permission to do it... I was just going to do it. :)
No... for certain no tattoos. :)

(well, it was eyeliner permanantly tatooed onto her eyelids...BUT it was a TAT!)

Gee whiz! Oh man, how painful what that? What if the guy slipped? WHAM! Right in the eye. Your Grandma's my new brave hero. Crap ~ can you imagine how painful that would have been?

she said they used a local.
she thought it was the coolest thing in the whole planet ever.

88... that's actually not a bad idea. I don't wear makeup often, but I can definitely see the appeal in having some of it tattoo'd on. Like lipliner. It's such a pain to apply... And if you screw it up, you gotta start all over. Make-up is one of the biggest hassles in the world. Yeah, and eyeliner sucks too. Especially in Texas ~ where it's so muggy in the summer. That stuff looks like Alice Cooper by about noon.
I wonder if those egyptian gals from way back when had theirs tattoo'd on... with that big swish off to the side.
Man, Rollins has got a show? I'm watching clips of his letters to celebrities. They're awesome. Here's some:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4Wgw-4XiFU&feature=related (to David Beckham)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqybDdU4qVk&feature=related (to Carrot Top)
What do you think it would take for him to write a letter to the O'Club. There's PLENTY here in our little dysfunctional family to make fun of! :lol
Dang ~ he sure is funny!

I knew a girl that had this done as well. She freed herself of 15 minutes every day at least with putting on eyeliner and removing it. She LOVES it as she can leave the house and "Look" like she did her face up.

Rollins checking in re:Rollins. Sorry would have seen this earlier but the AH Rollins is typing this from the hospital provided internet service. Took an ambulance ride for the first time ever today (as a patient anyway) and am now heavily medicated and have been graced by the needle, for I've been counting, 16 times. Turns out I have pneumonia and the built up fluid has decreased my lung and heart function. No symptoms other than rapid onset severe shortness of breath. See your doctors regularly ladies and gents...
Back on topic. Yes, huge fan of The Man and he is a blast to see in any format. He really gets into some serious topics on his spoken word and rocks hard in his band. Little left for me sometimes but hey.
Check out all of his work at :www.21361.com (http://www.21361.com)
More later, pretty tired now. Good post TxMom :aok

Thanks. I guarantee that yours is better than the no salt, low fat stuff I've gotten so far. :)

That's it. I'm liking Rollins very much. After reading more... he toured Iraq year before last with the USO. He's awesome. :)

His music and spoken word shows are very different.
Check them both out, also check out his written work. Pretty dark and intense stuff. Some of it is written tour journal style, some as a an introspective, some as a state of affairs commentary.
I'd start with 'Black Coffee Blues'. Basically it is a collection of travel notes in his own unique style of humor and social criticism. Don't dive straight into 'Solipsist' or 'Eye Scream' as it is a bit much for the young ones, or old ones, to digest until you are familiar with his perspectives.
His writing style and overall focus really shifted after he was the victim of an armed robbery in his youth. He watched his best friend get killed in front of him. Hence the dedication on all his work to Joe Cole.
P.S. Nothing says 'good night's sleep' like being awakened at 0130 by the phlebotomist who needs more blood and hits me twice more in the hand literally wiggling around a needle in my veins looking for good flow... gave me chills just writing that. :uhoh
TxMom, what album of Rollins' did you find in your son's collection?

His letter to the FCC is great.

Well, I'd say it's a pretty good thing for her that you didn't wake up swinging.
It's the Come In & Burn album. Actually, I'm listening to it now ~ I do like it. But it doesn't seem to be the one I saw... which means there's more floating around.
His letter to the FCC is great.

Np, poke and prod as much as they need. After the care my father received prior to his death at this hospital and the stuff they go through from all the other whiny patients, I do my best to treat them like professionals and help them have a little better day.
On Rollins-Come in and Burn is one of my favorite, that featured Melvin Gibbs on bass. He is a jazz bass monster and puts a lot of soul in there. Saw them live when he was in the lineup. Awesome. The production on that album is great as well. "During a City" has rung true many times here in Vegas.
From that album, I'd go backwards as after that album he diverged from the main band that had been the core -Sim Cain on drums, Chris Haskett on guitar and Andrew Weiss or Melvin Gibbs on bass.
After Come In and Burn he got together with a new band under the Rollins Band moniker, which without him is a 3 piece named Mother Superior (cool to check out sans Rollins as well). It was good, just not what I was used to. Straightforward rock, seemed to lack the depth that I heard on the earlier albums such as End of Silence and Weight.
Now, going back before End of Silence there is some session work you can pick up, but the main albums before that you will find very unfiltered and raw.
it might take a few listens to Hard Volume or Lifetime, but it is definitely a man pouring his life out on a record.
Lastly, of note would be an EP entitled Henrietta Collins and the Wifebeating Child-Haters. Shows some of his humor early on in his career.
Enjoy and welcome to the world of Hank. Gonna get back to my new career as a pincushion. :aok
