Title: B25 75mm Cannon
Post by: xtyger on July 05, 2008, 04:40:26 PM
I've become intrigued with the B25H- specifically its 75mm cannon- as of late and have been using it for a gv killer for a few weeks now. I'm curious about its trajectory, though. So far, it seems I have to aim a bit higher than the tanks turret to hit when I'm about 200 yards out. I think aiming dead center gives me the most hits from around 400 yards, but I'm not sure, dive angle making a difference and I'm not always diving the same angle.

This pagehttp://www.riemarfamily.com/falcon%20in%20action.html (http://www.riemarfamily.com/falcon%20in%20action.html) here says the cannon had a range of 5000 yards(!) but not much else. Anyone know what the battlesight zero is for the cannon and about how high or low it fires at various distances?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Can't you set the convergence setting for the howitzer in the hangar?

Correct. Convergence for the 75mm is set in the hangar. Personally, I set it for max range, especially for picking off ack before it can return fire. :D There's also some nice sights out there to assist in aiming at long range.

B-25 can fire a long ways as The page mentions.  I can normally hit Ack from 5K in level flight by lining the Ack up with the bottom of the sight.  As for on Vehicles it depends on Rang, Angle, speed.  I normally try to stay low and hit the gas tank from 500-800yrds, for which i aim at the top of the turret.  For T-34s i will dive a 45 degree angle and fire right behind the turret, I normally aim at the front of the tank as i dive and fire from 800yrds.  If you are just attacking Panzers then unless the person can hit you with turret some in low and fire from 600yrds, with the Dot of the sight right on the top of the turret.
This just how i attack Gvs in one, sure someone else know better :aok.

When killing GVs with a '25 I dive in at a 20 degree angle right on the butt of it, no matter what GV. Also I fire at about 1.5K to get a range shot, then I shoot my final shot at 400 so I'm all adjusted.

You can set the convergence for the 75mm?

Not that I know of. In hangar it shows only convergence for the 4 nose .50 cals and the 4 blister .50 cals each as being adjustable.

I don't think you can m00t, I just checked.

Yeah I thought I remembered that visual - no convergence for the cannon.  FWIW, I think the ballistics (as far as A2A is concerned) is very flat but it seems pretty slow.  So it's mostly a matter of timing and not much compensating for drop.

But that P38 is a big target :D

I tried that earlier on. There doesn't seem to be any way to set up the 75mm for range.

What, exactly, would a single gun be converging with?

That's an interesting question, my first guess would be it would be the point at which the round would cross the centre point of the gunsight as it does for the coaxial cannon on the Yaks, 109s and P39s.

One of the most fun sorties i have ever had was running the 25 as a bomber interceptor for 4 hours.  Cruise up to 18K, over a likely buff path...catch em, and kill em.  Rinse, Repeat.  Landed 12 buff kills with two rearms.  I suppose there's nothing more helpless than sitting in a buff formation bristling with 50 calibers...while a crazy freak in a B25 sits at 1.5K lobbing 75mm HE at you.  I had it down to 1 kill every three shots with the german Revil sight.....that one seemed to get the drop pretty consistent at 1.5 to 2.0 K out.
