I have some references, walkaround photos, etc, but the quality of the cockpit shots is such that it's quite blurry. I can only make out the text on a few of the switches below the dials. I can't make out any of the warnings below the main instrument panel (center section extension) either.
I need help with what these say, so I can re-create them in 1024 res.
Also, it seems there some variability with the switches and labels, just from the photos I've seen. I guess I'm looking specifically for a -E but all else fails I'll take any info you've got.
P.S. Yes, I've checked the local library. Piss poor selection of aviation books.

Don't know if this helps.

EDIT: Errr, i am not sure if that is the p40e- cockpit in the first place, but hell, can't do any harm.

Hrm.. it does look a little like a P-40, but not one I've seen before. Looks almost like walkaround photos of a modernized cockpit in a restored p-40.
What I'm seeing looks more like this:
http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/AWA1/001-100/walk040_P-40/part2/images_Greg_Wise/17_instrument_panel.jpg
and this (this one and similar ones I've used as references on my skin)
http://www.nakatomitower.com/p40e/p40cockpit.jpg
Using some other photos I've made out what some of the labels are. I can't make out what the 3 LEFT-MOST of the circuit breakers (the row of switches on the right, above the lamp), and I can't make out most of the top row of silver switches in the center part, and the label at the top of the fuel pump switch (far left, above octagon-outline)
Also, there are 3 warnings on the lower center extension below the instrument panel, and there are 3 paper charts/warnings/whatevers that I cannot find any detail of.
Basically if it's got text, I could use a little help. I've done a lot already, but it's not enough.

From the book "Cockpit" by Donald Nijboer, page 66.
P-40E from the USAAF Museum, Dayton.
Using some other photos I've made out what some of the labels are. I can't make out what the 3 LEFT-MOST of the circuit breakers (the row of switches on the right, above the lamp)
My photo shows no labels at all for the breakers.

I cant get the pictures right now, but i just recently picked up some dvd's one with a detailed p-40 cockpit flight instructions.
I hope i can get the images you would need.
I cant promise anything right now, granted it was around 4am that i watched them,so.
But i do remember it being in old wwII style color so.

Hope you can read something out of this

Does Hitech actually allow cockpit textures?
-
I think I found the same picture online: [doh! It's the same as Coduh's. :)]

Excellent! Dux, Croduh, thanks!

I think I'm all set for labels now, except for 2 areas:
On the throttle there's a mix lever. It has square markings with labels like "auto lean" "auto rich" and I think "full rich", but I can never see the lowest setting because the lever itself is always there, blocking it.
And, on the left-hand side there is a large data plate on the default skin. I saw something like this in one of my photos, but it was cluttered with hoses, straps, etc, and I could not get a good view of it.
Don't suppose you two have either of those in your magic bag of tricks? :D
-
Got nothing that shows the left side.
Although, I should think that the lowest throttle setting would be "choke"...?
-
Not sure, never took ground flight training :D

In August I'm Going to Florida, And might be able so stop at two museums that are on the way, first, The USS Alabama in Mobile, and The Navy Air Museum in Pensacola. The point being that the Navy Museum Has a Fully restored P-40 and I might be able to take a Picture of the inside of the cockpit. Also Here is a link to the list of planes there. http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/getdoc/9c8b4308-2174-458f-bf6f-fbbb03771b4c/Exhibits-(1).aspx (http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/getdoc/9c8b4308-2174-458f-bf6f-fbbb03771b4c/Exhibits-(1).aspx) If anyone has any Requests for pictures of cockpits or specific areas of the planes up close, then I'll make sure to stop there and try to get what you need.
-
Thanks, but I hope to have it finished and submitted before then.
The exterior of the skin has been done for a while now. Only hold-up is the cockpit. I wanted to do this one up right!
I've put more effort into this than probably any other skin, in part due to its old format/layout and in part to the cockpit (I've rarely messed with them before)
-
Rgr, I figured that you'd want to have it done by way before then. If i stop there, ill try and get a picture anyway, and send it to you for reference for if you want to update it at any time. I'll prolly try and get all the cockpits of in game planes, in case anyone is building one and wants to remake the cockpits.

P.S. Yes, I've checked the local library. Piss poor selection of aviation books.

I know huh, its fricken convenient
-
so this mean we are getting upgraded cockpit for P40-E :D
-
No.
It means Krusty took the time to take the current P40 model and redo it in 1024 textures, which is no where close to the same thing as a remodel.
-
This is my meager attempt to make the best of an ugly cockpit. You can see a screenshot in the 68FS P-40E skin thread (not far below this one in the forum list)
