Title: Fighter/attack?
Post by: Seeker on May 08, 2001, 06:26:00 AM
I've never really understood the function or reason behind the attack/fighter button, but why oh why won't it "stick"?

So many of the hanger settings don't stay fixed it's irritating!

I've often thought I've loaded full fuel, only to find I've got 25% once airbourne, and that dammend attack button needs clicking every time!

There's been quite a few requests for the eqivalent of a start up batch file or macro to hold user settings, is there any chance this might come about in the future?

Seeker first of all - you're damned right about the attack/fighter button. It should 'remember' its last setting for a particular aircraft even if you go to the hangar. At the moment, it remembers it from sortie to sortie providing you don't go to hangar in between time.

As for the fuel thing. Unfortunately, clicking on a button on the clipboard, will also activate the weapons/fuel selectors IF the clipboard button is above that particular setting.

You just have to be careful where the clipboard is when you are changing convergeance or clicking the runway buttons.

Hopefully these things will be fixed eventually.

Thanks Dowding, I hadn't realised the button clicks "went through" onto the fuel, but it makes a kind of sense.

What's the logic to this attck button any way?

Curious..

Maybe we will have "pure attack" planes in the future?  Maybe we will have an attack/bomber plane <a26> that will allow you to select either for a mission.

I really dunno... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

It seems that your attack scores could be done automatically..ie anything that is destroyed on the ground goes into the Attack scores etc.

np Seeker - I learnt that the hard way.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) The attack button is basically used as a score thing, as you probably know - so you can easily see how you are doing in the air to ground role.

The attack/fighter button is useful - it's just that it needs to remember its last setting.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Personaly I always forget to click the attack button when I jabo (almost always, 99% of the time anyway). I would like it changed to automaticaly assume attack if you load bombs or rockets. If you don't load these and you want to attack with guns only then you would have to choose.

As far as the effect on your fuel load is concerned, I always type in the dot command for fuel before going onto the runway just to be sure of my fuel status. I have had it change to 25% too many times without realizing it. If you will just go to tower from the hanger before launching, or even from the hanger for that matter, and type in ".fuel X" X being 0 for 25%, 1 for 50%, 2 for 75%, and 3 for 100%, then you can be assured of your fuel loadout.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

So...in short, there's no real rationale for the button, it's just a score quirk that tests out if you pre-flight...forget to click a button and ruin your score...how does this relate to a simulation????

Fuel selection is buggy? Don't rely on the GUI, use unix style dot commands?

I do so hope that AH doesn't go the same way as AW (I'm sure it won't  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) ), lot's of new stuff, but original bugs left unfixed.....

There is rationale behind the button seeker - basically people want a quick and easy way to keep track of their a2g scores - I think it is a good way of doing it.

As for the bugs being sorted, the attack/fighter button was only introduced a few of months ago, and there is only 6 people in the HTC team.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
