Figured this would be a fun post, anyhow I was dancing around in a 262 with a squadie on the doughnut map few weeks ago. I dove in on an La7 thinking he was an easy kill, he flipped on over before I could zip in for the kill and ho'd my wingtip off, wasn't bad enough my flight only lasted 2 minutes - I was still flying with a wingtip missing over an enemy field! Well lucky for me field ack took off the other wing tip and I flew home to land, which was 2 sectors away. Right when I get ready for land base flashes, some idiots were porking a uncapturable base so I diverted to this 5.0k base where 163's launch from. I was all geared to land, my squadie Kill3m took off just in case and help me in. Well I overshot the runway and anyone landing a 262 knows, flaps and gears down it will NOT accelerate back up, so i dropped off a few K's in alt and tried to swing around and climb back, anyhow doing this wide climbing turn I barely managed to get a 262 from about 2k off deck with gears down to crash land on the main pad area to land on a 5k field. I was actually feeling the happiest I was able to even land because when I overshot the runway I kinda felt no way I could get it around again (as my arms already killing me from trying to keep the 262 straight for 4-5 sectors already) but that 3k drop off I did once i left the runway I felt no way I could get the bird back up and land it, some how I did.
Gotta say one of best (and worse) moments of Aces high

I forget name of the map, Its shaped like a doughnut, bases are spread around in a circle with middle being a mountain or something.
It has mostly valleys I think?

You mean big Tank Town? Ozkansas?
p.s. I wish HTC would give us Donut back. :cry

That's not Donut. Sounds like Beta. Donut is a big map with a fighter town/furball lake in the middle.

From a happy ending to a screwd up one...
Last night I was in A dredger mission in an f6f.
Well,... as I was diving on the nme field to drop on a fighter hanger 2 of the many wirbl's on hand redecorated my plane, removing both wing tips.
Somhow I got the thing pointed towards the fleet again and started rolling it back home, yelling on local channel the whole time for the cv to stop turning.
I passed the cv in the pattern and began easing flaps down and made one heck of a large left hand turn to line up.
The rudder was all I had to roll with and it was getting pretty sporty around 180 ias, when I noticed that my throttle was pretty effective in helping the plane roll one way or the other, I got so confident that I put the gear/hook down before I slamd into the deck for what I hoped was a good landing...big mistake. After trapping my plane hopped about 4 foot off the deck, and the wire slung my butt backwards off the deck, with me hollering like an idiot that it wasnt fair lol.
Man I thought I had it.... :(

:rofl
Same thing happened to me. Was returning my wounded f6f back to the cv with 5 or 6 kills and half a wing tip gone. On my second approach just when I approached the deck the CV started turning and just as I did so I couldnt hold the striken wing up anylonger and slammed the deck at an awkward angle. I cought the first cable and it catapulted me backwards right off the deck.
On another instance I misjudged my relative velocity to the carrier in my zero and 'landed' in the little 'balcony' on the butt of the CV, just below the deck and above the water line. And I landed my kills! :rofl

I've done that one too many times.

I remember in my first FSO I was in a F6F. I lost a wingtip to a N1k. I flew 3 sectors to a carrier. When I landed I bounced off a 5' gun and spun around on the deck and came to a stop on the elevator (before the update) with half my plane leaning off.

flew a p51d dead stick 1 1/4 grids from 9k managed to some concrete landed with 2 kills :O
