Title: Fuel Range
Post by: kfsone on May 08, 2001, 01:19:00 PM
Would be nice if the MAP view gave you some sort of as-the-crow-flies gauge of the two-way trip afforded by your current plane/fuel loadout. Perhaps a series of concentric circles indicating low, medium and high-alt cruise. It wouldn't have to take into effect climbing etc, and players would still have to learn for themselves what optimum cruise setting is for each aircraft...

In the meantime, you can use Snefens chart.

Bah, learn it the hard way ya big girl =)

Actually I'm amazed at just how far the Yak-9U will go on a full tank at 30,000'...

And is there somewhere a chart with a comparison of various optimum throttle settings per aircraft?

What's brought this on is having been trying to do some low-level incursion flying, and finding that the low-alt performance of the current planeset is either very dependant on choosing the right throttle setting or just not particularly feasible.

Cruise settings given on the HTC page are only there for some aircraft. Even then, those settings work best at altitudes greater than lawn-mower heights. Don't mess with prop RPM, just pull power back to about 65-70% and you'll get a lot more range out of it. If you're really strapped for gas, pull it back to 50% but no lower. If you want, you can pull a few hundred RPM off the prop too. Granted your grandma and her walker will out-run you, but you'll get a nice looooong range.

Really helps when you accidently take 25% fuel!
