Title: Rip Offs!!
Post by: Kaw1000 on July 11, 2008, 09:18:04 AM
I saw a car on craigs list at a very low price...being down the road before I knew it was a
Rip off ready to happen.I have been playing with this guy and seeing how far I can take it
before I actually have to send money.
Hes going to send me a EBay invoice now. here is some of our conversations so far:

Your Mustang looks nice! Can I have the serial #? I would like to run a carfax on it.
Why are you selling it? Are you the 1st owner?

hello,
i am an individual seller, i am not a dealer and this is my first type of posting on craigslist. the car is my personal property and i am selling it because i got promoted i am a Major in the US Air Force's 6th Combat Training Squadron now and also been deployed to Nellis Air Force Base for that and will be gone from home for 18 months. so i decided to sell the darn thing, i don't want it to rust back home. so, the car was bought brand new in 2004 and has been very well maintained. it passed inspection and comes with all documentation needed for registration. clean title. no damage, no hidden defects. exactly as advertised. the shipping charges will be taken care of so there aren't any hidden costs applied to the final price which is not negotiable. please reply if you need information concerning shipping and/or payment.
thank you,
zachary

Where is the car? I will come see it.

hello,
the car is at Dover AFB in DE where i left it to be shipped on my comand. the sale will go through ebay. the price is $8000. if you're ready for purchasing, i need to know your full name and full shipping address. as soon as i have this informations i will start the official procedure, and ebay will notify you about how to make a refundable payment. you'll also receive important guidelines and instructions from them (invoice, vehicle purchase protection & terms). a navy cargo plane will ship the car for me, so it will be free of charge for you. the title will be signed and nothorized in your name as soon as the payment will be completed.
please let me know asap if we can continue doing business.
also, i want to sell it fast so do not hesitate to ask all your questions in your reply.
thank you,
zachary

Awsome....I will be in Dover for my business. Can you give me directions to where the car is?
I will inspect it and drive it...If everything is ok, I will write you a check for it.
                                          Thanks

as i told you the car is in a hangar at Dover AFB, only military personnel are allowed. you will be able to see and inspect the car or test drive when shipped. please, let me explain to you how the ebay process works. the total price including shipping and handling is $8000. you will have to send a down payment of $4000 to ebay and after ebay confirms to me that the money were sent i will ship you the car (shipping takes about 3-4 days). i will provide you with the expected delivery date and a tracking number so you can track the shipment as it travels. you will have 3 days time for inspecting and test driving the car and to decide if you are satisfied with it or not and whether you keep it or not. if you are satisfied and decide to keep it you confirm to ebay so they can inform you on how to make the balance payment. if you aren't satisfied with it you notify ebay, the transaction will be canceled and the car will be shipped back to me, no charges.
so, please send me your info (first & last name and shipping address) and ebay will contact you with all necessary information about how to make a refundable payment.
waiting for your reply, zachary

I need to see a copy of the title...do you have that?? What is the serial number?? I will not do anything till
That info is relayed to me.  Thank you
P.S. I will be down in your area next week...can you have someone drive the car to a local Market so I can see it?
Just take it off the Base and I will take it for a drive...let me know ASAP so I can make arrangments.

the title and paperwork are in the car. you will receive them along with a bill of sale all signed by me ready for you to register it into your name. i don't have where to get them from now. and as i told you the car is in a hangar at Dover AFB (and i do not work there anymore), and only military personnel are allowed. you will be able to see and inspect the car or test drive when shipped.

Overall lack of typing skills is the biggest clue.  There are a ton of these type of scams on Craig's List.  I've never used it, doubt I ever will.

LOL, I will do that...I will let you know what he says!!

i almost forgot.....if you REALLY wanna eff wqith him..ask him how he got it in a hangar? usually, servicemen that're selling their motorvehicles, have to put them on the "lemon lot".

and on my previous post, if he tries to tell you that CAP members can't get on the flight line, the air force laison officer for northeast region CAP is a friend of mine. he's an air force colonel. i think they'll let him out there. :D

i love it!!!! it's soooooooo much fun to screw with nutjobs like that!!!!!!

Have to watch Ebay also, have found many scams their while looking for boats. Basically if there is no picture of the serial number and a phone number to call = scam. A fellow I know came from Northern Canada to the southern states to pick up his Shelby that was a scam had phone# to pay as you go phone, an junk address, and serial number of some one elses car. Other Buddy bought a boat 32000 on Ebay and took money to the person personally to get boat. Don't sent any more money over the internet than you are prepared to lose. :)

Tell him you have a buddy that's stationed at Dover with the base security office and that he's willing to go over and take a look at it for you.

Better yet post a link for his sale and lets see how bad all of us can screw with him. Maybe if he thinks he can start a bidding war we can string him along for a couple days.

If you know his name, post it here, and someone here will look it up in global. Then you can ask him why he is 'missing'....

When you have finished having fun and want to bust him, tell him you are a sting operator for some special internet crime ops firm. Tell him you have checked the airforce base and found no car and that his IP address has ben logged and arresting officers are on route. Please remain calm sir, please do not leave your house. We have you covered by 3 camera's and the helicopter is on standby. ROFL imagining him burning documetns, flushing drugs and running like hell out his back window.

"pulls up a chair and pops open a cold one"
This has the makings of some fun times!!

When your done with him post his info so we can all take turns screwing with him.

My buddy who works in verizon's IT security dept "let" me play the part of the victim for a similar scam but they were saying they were from verizon selling equipment. We strung these 3 guys along for a week the whole time i had my budy, his boss and and a detective sitting there ROFLAO while I hooked him and reeled him in. AND i got PAID while doing it!!! I already told his supervisor that as soon as there is another opening <around mid sept> I want to work in that dept!! The only thing missing is the beer and hot pockets lol

If he didn't suffer damage, police will not even look at the case.
