Title: iPhone 2.0
Post by: mietla on July 15, 2008, 08:31:23 PM
Anyone upgraded the software to 2.0?

How did it go? Any problems?

I'm tempted to upgrade, but so far I've heard a lot of bad experiences.

Nevermind.....downloading the update right now!

I eventually got the update today, but only after shutting down the firewall and disabling anything resembling a network service and anti virus. Think my AV was blocking the DNS lookup for the update, as it would DL but then fail to find the upgrade server.

But it works ... slower ... but it works. See how it works tomorrow.

under the top 25 section/free ones. the icon is the spanish flag red/yellow/red.

i few more i grabbed

bubbles- just for fun, puts bubbles on your screen and they move depending on how you hold the phone
saber - yep star wars fan its a light saber on the phone and when you move it around it sounds like the light saber
check please - does tips and divides the check by number of people easily
scribble - dram on teh phone and shake to erase
molecules - get full 2-d control of almost any molecule, + dna.
shakespeare - his complete works  at your finger tips on the phone
stanza - DL almost any book and read it on the phone. I'm reading "Old man and the sea" again!

more to come. I phone have hack too but I don't suggest any of them, they highly degrade the phones performance :devil

I don't have an iphone myself to say how good they are, but here's two links usualy reliable on this sort of stuff:
MAKE magazine (http://www.makezine.com/), they have tons of DYI tutorials (http://blog.makezine.com/)..  Just looking at my RSS feed from them , there's about 50 DIY articles mentionning the iphone... "Get early access to iTunes 7.7 and iPhone 2.0 firmware" (http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2008/07/get_early_access_to_itune.html?CMP=OTC-0D6B48984890)
Gizmodo has an iphone apps review directory (http://gizmodo.com/5023924/iphone-app-review-marathon-liveblog) and I think I saw some discussion on at least a few of the problems so far, a few links deep in this page (http://gizmodo.com/5024882/iphone-3g-reviews-hardware-software-and-apps).

So all-in-all, would you guys recommend the iPhone?  I'm looking to buy the 16GB 2.0 one (in black, of course)  BTW, if you have AT&T and have a good plan right now, would you still be able to keep it, or would you have to buy a whole new one for the iPhone?

I've got the iPhone 3G. Never had an iPod or iPhone so this is a big step up for me. It's very impressive.

iPint and the Lightsabre apps are the best. :)

No MMS. The worst aspect of the iPhone is that it is very US-centric. SMS and MMS is not used much over there apparently, whereas it is used extensively in Europe etc. I guess the US uses mobile email more?

I've never been interested in phones, but this does look like it's a pretty efficient system.

MMS/SMS is big in Aus too.
I'm more than happy with my Motorola and Ipod Nano combo...but if I was looking at a new phone I'd prob give the iPhone 3G a miss on the MMS basis alone...plus data d/l is hugely expensive here

You guys should have seen the line outside the Apple store in downtown Manhattan. I met one guy while getting coffee who told me "Yeah, I've been in line for three hours. But those people waiting 4 and a half hours are crazy, no way I'd do that for just a phone!"

now that we have hands free cell phone laws and bluetooth here in Kalifornia you should be able to surf the web and organize your songs and all that stuff while talking on the phone and driving... or..  at least you can impress people at the grocery store if nothing else.

nothing impressed me more about a guys importance than to see him....  and better yet... hear him.... multitiasking on his phone while standing in line with him

Mms is no where neAr important enough for me to risk having to pay for an iPhone while only really having an iBrick even if the chance of getting caught is one thousandth of a percent. Really what do I need it for? I have email right here and it's just as fast.

Post brought to you. By toadkill's iPhone. :rock
