Title: Wish List - Axis Fantasy Aircraft
Post by: Damionte on July 16, 2008, 04:59:32 PM
My Axis Wish List:

These are two aircraft that saw very limited production in the actual war, but would allow us to seriously expand our scenario use of the Axis in game.

The FW109T is the carrier born version of the BF-109. Meant for use on the two never fully completed german Aircraft carriers. (Well one was pretty much completed, but taken by the Russians after the war.)

This would give us a german carrier capable plane to use in scenarios.

My second fantasy wish list aircraft is the Italian P108 4 engine heavy bomber. Unlike the FW109-T these actually were built, and put into service, just in limtied numbers. Italy only finished two squadrons worth of full bomber aircraft.  The remaining aircraft were used as transports.

The two variants give the axis both a heavy bomber and an aerial transport. Things they do not currently have in play.

That would be Bf-109T or Me-109T :)

Basically an Emil with longer wings, folding too i believe.    Performance wise it would be lacking and there are a lot of 109s in game already including a nice Emil.

The Bf.109T was not a fantasy aircraft. It was a heavily modified Bf.109E-7. Several were made and were equipped to 11./JG11 after it was clear that it would not be able to be used as a carrier aircraft... it served in Reich Defense duties. I don't remember what kind of success the unit had and I'm 800 miles away from my books right now but I know 11./JG11 scored at least some victories.

I GRUPPE of JG77 also used the ME-109T-2 (carrier equipment removed) and had real good results with it. Plus it was used long after other units had transitioned on the the 109F.

IIRC the pilots that flew them really liked them as they could turn a little tighter than the standard Me-109E.

Good book out there I have in the collection on the ME-109T and the gruppen that flew them - it's called SEA EAGLES by Francis L. Marshall.

since those are not "real" pictures, was this plane used??

Not by Germany. The aircraft was never built, even a prototype, by Germany IIRC.
However,
I think I read somewhere that Kurt Tank or some other Focke Wulf high-up moved to Argentina (as many Nazi war criminals did) and built the aircraft under a different name. This is just some kind of random info pulled out of the back of my head, dunno if it's true (probably not)
I believe the MiG 15 was heavily based on this aircraft, perhaps the F86 as well? Soviet and American designs of the early cold war period took a lot of technology and aerodynamic features from captured German jets and designs.

I'd like the Goetha (SP?) flying wing nuclear bomber myself. Stealth technology FTW.

About the only one of these "Second Generation" Luftwaffe jets to make it off the drawing board was the MESSERSCHMITT P.1110 and I think it had only made it to VERY early prototype stage. Not sure it ever flew. However it was taken after the war to the US and the BELL X-5 Was based very much on this aircraft.

not quite an aircraft but some 109s and 190s carried an airborne mortar called a Pulkzestorer (wf215 or somethin)...... They'd lob them into bomber formations. Just sounds like fun in AH :)
