If you have the space inside the case well regarded for overclocking, the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme is best I've ever used and better temps then even cheap water cooling kits. Simple to install and very effective. If your using factory clock, factory cooling is good enough.

Check out 'Blue Orb II'. Its 140mm diameter doesnt fit all MBs so check that out but this thing really cools!

Tomshardware 4 part review of CPU coolers.  Rates cooling effectiveness and installation difficulty.

Review of the Xigamatek HDT S1283 got choice for lower cost cooloer.  Here's the direct review link:

I use the Arctic Freezer 7.  Install was very easy and cools pretty good for the price.  I run a mild overclock of my E6400 at 2.66ghz and my cores are upper 40's and lower 50's on load (ambient 75-77F).  Arctic Silver 5 is a must.  The Freezer 7 is fairly large and it does touch my northbridge heatsink.

#1 Can work as a passive cooler or you can use fans
#2 comes with a fan, see pictures.

I'd go with the Xigmatek HDT S1283. I like the large area it covers and the vertical mounting which should help it collect more airflow, (IMHO). The article at Anand's says good things about it also.  You'll just have to make sure it will fit in your case, or run with the side panel off.

One of the comments on the newegg page also said this:

=====
If you buy this for an Intel CPU get the metal back plate Newegg sells for it. A much more secure way to mount it. I just wish they would have just included it with the cooler and charged a few extra bucks. I just happened to find the backplate by chance while assembling the order. Newegg probably should put a link on the page this cooler is on so it would be easier to find.
======

The only thing that might turn some people off is the fan noise. Anand's said it was a bit noisy. If you're sensitive about that then it might not be the choice, and in that case I'd go looking for other similar type coolers. Personally I'm not that impressed with the other cooler you looked at on newegg myself. I prefer vertical coolers over horizontal ones. They tend to catch more of the airflow in the case.

It was 3:00 a.m. in the morning give me a break.  :D

I read that the s1283 is a pretty good cooler. Saw that in Tomshardware.com. I think someone posted the link here.

LOL fulmar..

 I was going to post to getback at 6am this morning and correct him :D,but had to get off to work..
What I like about the horizontal one is that it will cover Northbridge,probably southbridge as well,and also blow down on my Video card..

 I have a few days to make a decision,so any further info is apprciated...

For all things related to CPU heatsink reviews, you really need to go to:

http://www.frostytech.com/

They are one of the few sites that have a repeatable testing methodology, and they keep track of noise output too.

I run the Blue Orb II on my AMD 9850 black box edition and it's great!  My CPU temp is at 41 C degrees under heavy load.  It is huge though.

All the Best...

I use http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835101018 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835101018) and this thing works better than I thought it would.   I also like the mounting system as it uses screws INSTEAD of clips.   It is keeping the CPU at 33 degrees C and I have it's 92mm fan blowing out into the 120mm fan in the back of my case.

I Realize I'm late and after the fact, but here are my .02

If you have the space and the money I'd say http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118019 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118019)

IMHO Zalman is one of, if not, the best brand for fans and cooling equipment. Today that one is on sale for $56 not likely people will catch this in time too buy it, but thats a steal for such a good cooler. But that is one big bastage of a Heat sync so make sure you have room.

Also go for Arctic Silver for your paste, I prefer http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100012 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100012) Its a non-glue thermal paste.

I've tried to get the link to work several times, it just won't.
Thermaltake / TMG i1 / Socket 775 / Copper Base / CPU Cooler

This is one monster cooler, even with the large case I have, only @ 1/2 inch clearance to the side panel.

Cool, got this one to work.  Tried the same item on tigers site, which is where I actually bought it from.
