Don't know your Group did Juggs as well.
We got to get a D-11 done for the 49th as well - need more PTO JUGGS - way to many ETO ones now. ;)
Good Luck with it. :salute

twinboom do u know if the tail number or the profile is the one for the plane in your photos?
the number 33 plane?could the profile be wrong as marking it as no10 aircraft?

Rogerdee in the photo the swoop on the nose extends back to the cowl flaps.
-
Another thing about the blue stripes:
See how the first stripe stops at that panel plate? It almost looks like it continues below it, until it reaches the wing fillet. I wonder if the second stripe also extends to the wing fillet.
Rather odd to have stripes that just stop halfway down, don't you think?
Anybody have a clearer photo of the side without the man's leg blocking our view?
-
sweet :rock :O
i seen the same thing id say artist profile is off but maybe dan could tell
-
I believe we're talking two different airplanes with the profile being the earlier bird and the one in the photos being after he made ace.
-
so 10 was scraped or shot down ? and 33 in the later bird would still be same colors wouldnt it?
either way its a dandy bird

Leroy Grossheuesch didn't have his 6th kill until February 10, 1945 so the photos are after that and before February 25, 1945 when he got his 7th kill. His first kill was November 21, 1944. The profile is dated September 44 so I assume it was his bird prior to his run started.
edited to add. The danger of too many books is you forget about some :)
Clearly the photo from where #10 came from.

And another profile of Leroy's Jug and his 51 which is a beauty. Photos are credited to Leroy and the serial on the jug isn't complete. All his birds were numbered 33 so second guessing says 10 wasn't his, but was the squadron commander's prior to Leroy taking over as CO.

nice pictures and they clearly show on one plane the blue stripe stops halfway
down the fuselarge.
OK so i am going to work with the 33 plane just really need to know
the serial number for it

:O

:O
Twinboom if you want that 51 done, I can replace the Pacific one I already did with it when I submit..
-
I think they angle on the blue strips must be watched closely. In Dan tops picture they are longer and reach farther back along the side of the body. Of course that picture is of the craft without D-day strips on it. If you do it with out the d-day strips, make them long, if with, make them short.
Other than that, I think it looks pretty darn nice ! :aok
-
One thing I did notice is the blue on the nose extends all the way back to the back of the cowling, otherwise it looks great! :salute
-
anyone found out the tail number for the latter 33?
-
i havent found anything have you dan?

The profile was based on photos provided by Leroy Grossheuesch in the book it was in. He clearly didn't have it and he flew it. I don't have anything that gives the serial. The close up photo shows it covered by the rising sun flags but 42-27??? is visible. Best suggestion is to fudge it a little bit in that serial range. 42-27868 or something similar. 227868 goin on the tail.
-
Looks like the 212th FG or FS Mexican group skin.

Are there any top views for reference. It looks (from the formation pic) that the scallop may come to a point on the top of the cowl as well. Looks good to me. Only two things that I notice off hand is that the blue is a little to purpleish and the black stripe seperating the blue from the alum on the cowl seems a shade too thick/dark. Seems a little more subtle in the pics.
-
outstanding :aok
-
That is a good looking Jug! :aok
-
Nice looking JUGG you got there Boom. :aok
She is ALMOST as good looking as ours. ;)
GOOD LUCK AND GOOD HUNTING WITH HER 39th FS!!! :salute
-
I agree with lilmak, the strip outlining the scallop should be more of a pin strip, maybe half a thick as you have it, but other than that picky little thing, she a sweet looking bird !! Well done !
-
Thanks for the input i think the top of the cowl should be like the one Greebo just done
but i havent got any top views.Althought the one Greebo has done is a hand me down
from this fighter group.
