We are looking for someone to do a skin of one of our Squad's historical aircraft. Any help on this project would be greatly appreciated. :aok
Please contact our squad our PM me if you would like to help us out with this project. :salute
It's a P-47D-5 Razorback "White 83" flown by Major Jerry Johnson 9th FS/49th FG out of Gusap, New Guinea circa Jan. 1944.

Roger, you have 6 D11 skins in game, why not look at one of them which might not be flown alot and ask HTC to replace it with this skin. A skin by a squadron in game is sure to get more flight time than just a random D11 skin.
Dunno, just an idea, I have done it in the past myself.

true im sure we dont need 5 56th skins when there are other active squads hence 49th and the d11 of the 39th

Wonder if HTC keeps stats on how oftern each skin is used - seems like info they would be able to have access to if they chose to collect it.

DON'T DELETE IT! :O
Larry has told HTC to pull all his skins and that he wouldn't be working on anymore.
That's why we were looking for someone to do it for us - he pulled out on making it for us after he got PNG'ed by HTC.

Hey Roger,
A few Notes on the 49th FG Jugg:
1. Pilots name above the kill markings was listed as: Major G.R. Johnson (cs)
2. Not sure the ailerons were white on top, no other PTO birds with that kind of recognition markings of the time where - BUT - I can't find a pic to prove or disprove they were.

I don't believe the ailerons were white. I think it's the angle of the aileron in the photo it's taken from. It's edge on and looks lighter.
-
From what I have read they were on the Flight Leaders aircraft - underneath as in the profile, just not sure if on the upper surfaces.
Lot of this is implied though - no "Real" photos to back it up unfortunately.
Lots of photographic proof the wing leading edges are white colored though - similar in the way the RAF painted theirs as a recognition signal.

No question about the white leading edges. That was standard ID markings on the 40s, 39s and 47s at that point. I think any of the single engine fighters USAAF, RAAF etc were so marked.
Thankfully the 38s didn't get them :)

Any progress Roger? :aok

ill crack on with it this weekend.
Just had to put a new harddrive and cooling fan in my desktop pc

I know there are a LOT of shades of Olive Drab (and I mean a LOT of shades) but it seems very dark and very earth-brownish. Rest of it looks nice, and it's a skin I'd like to see in-game, but it just looks mud-colored.
P.S. Possible glitch on the port side wing fillet trailing edge?
-
That could probably be due to your screen, mine at work is dark and at home lighter. If some one has color values to work from that would be the best way to check color.
-
Very good point. Unfortunately I can't check it out at home until... well until I get there ;)
Not until this evening.
I have an LCD at work (2, one on laptop, one standalone) and neither is really the best but it seems rather dark on both of them.

only reason it came to my mind is I'm a graphic designer and my monitor is calibrated to how the morons run the presses here, to damn dark.

She looks sharp to me. :aok

On a side note about the "Muddy" color - the 49th FG's aircraft, especially early to mid-war kinda had a reputation for looking rather skuzzy. They operated out of barely improved airstrips in New Guinea and due to the harsh operating conditions and extreme weather most of their aircraft had badly faded and chipped paint and were covered in mud. Most likely the only ones worse were the aircraft that operated out of Guadalcanal in the early days of the war.
hows the f4u look :D
YAWN! ;)

NO self respecting ground crew will let a plane take off caked in mud, period.
They may land that way, but before they take off I promise you they were wiped of most of the mud clumps. Not only does that make it dangerous to fly, it's like step 1 on a preflight walkaround :lol
There's worn, there's dirty, beat up, etc, but this just looks "dark."
Some P-38s in this game share the same problem, IMO.
-
its funny that its the same colour as the default drab skin but no one says thats the wrong colour !!!!

Yea, but that is sitting on the ground. They still had to take off again.
There is a piece of film footage I had seen on several shows on the History Channel showing P-38's taking off from Guadalcanal or New Guinea that has mud and water flying so high from the wheels and prop wash that you can't see any of the aircraft from the prop spinners back. I am surprised if the pilot could even see out the canopy enough to fight the enemy.
Guess it's just how you want the plane depected.
-
Roger, did you say this skin had been submitted to HTC. PLEASE ADVISE.
Tks. :aok

:rofl--------------- great work as always sir :aok :salute

Of course, before anyone says anything - you also get the little "unspoken" extra that went along with the medal as well as the RESERVED seat at the 49th FG "Bar and Grill" anytime you want to claim it. :aok
