Subject header says it all - I go myself a new computer...and now I'm looking at all the CD's I saved for my iPOD and I'm thinking...SURELY, I don't have to load all the CD's onto my new computer manually?!?!

I highly recommend getting an outboard USB hard drive. It not only will save your butt when (notice I didn't say if...) your PC crashes, but also does away with the problem that you are experiencing now.

iTunes sucks an egg. Don't use it you do not want to lose anything on your iPod.
get AnaPod ( http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod (http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod) ) . I will allow you to simply drag files/folders between iPod and your desktop.

If they are on the same network, cant you just import from a network share? Have you bought any music from apple?, or is it just your music?
just go to your documents folder and right click on "my music" go to properties, click on the sharing tab, and click on share this folder.
Note i am running xp pro, So some of the setting may be different.

I believe that Apple has a help topic on this....check their FAQ's on the iTunes website.

1. Get a fire wire & connect computers
2. Look under something like Music > iTunes on your new computer
3. Erase everything
4. Look under same files on old computer
5. Copy and paste everything onto new computer.
If you don't have fire wire connection, buy a cheap external hard drive. you'll need it anyway. Transfer files via the external drive.
Just did this about a week ago, so hopefully works for you too :)

how many gigs of music are we talking here? $20 bucks for a 4 g flash drive makes life easy in many cases

Thanks, everyone.
I checked out the links on the Apple page and apparently, the newest version of iTUNES can use your iPOD as a hard-drive so I'm going to try this out.
