I'm starting to wonder about the damage radius for bombs against tanks. I've had a couple of run in's with tanks lately and dropped bombs almost right on top of them yet haven't seen any damage. I twice dropped 1000lb'rs on a tank the other night, he was stationary, I looked back and he was within the crater graphic range yet still alive. He proceeded to drive away after that. I made 2 runs with the same result, a miss only in the sense that it didn't actually hit the roof of the tank. Had the same thing again a couple of nights later.
I really think that a 1000lb bomb, especially, has enough explosive that a hit that close should have tossed that tank in the air if nothing else. (btw, that would be really cool to see) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Anyone else think the same thing or am I just missing by a fraction too much? It makes me go back to the old strafing method with a Hog-C to kill tanks. I much prefer to bomb them if I can.

Agree. Last night we had one panzer hold off 3-4 AC (P47/190s), blasting most out of sky. The pilots said they were seeing many hits and were suprised it didn't die.
Sensing everyone was getting a little frustrated, I made a run on the panzer with my last 4 500s. Going slow and low (at 5K) I dropped a salvo of four straight down path of panzer, bracketing tank in craters front to back. (Craters were touching each other) No damage!!

bah dont wory to me never hapaned to survive
is it just some Strange difeence betven players
my, die if a 1000 egg just near my
and some people dont die even after 5 direct hit with ap shell
and the C hog lov level wulch huh never survived more like 2 pass
and after some 1 wonder why i whine :-))))
-
I used to whine about this, but I think they improved it. Since 1.03 I have been able to kill tanks with a near miss from bombs, and certainly some planes have kicked my tank's bellybutton with bombs. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Since this version, I haven't missed a tank yet with bombs.

I have everytime killed tank with 1000lb bombs that I have tried, only once one survived with a miss.. and he were no longer capable of continuing with his task due to damage.
So, if you can't bomb, use your super hispanos.. those are guaranteed to be easier way to kill tanks!

I definately think they have increased the ability to damage tanks. I agree that a 1K bomb right on top of a tank will kill it every time.
I think this has decreased the number of "lone tankers" in the arena. Why drive a tank 25 min to a field when a plane with a 1K egg can be up in 30 seconds and kill you.

I think a 500lb bomb (or 2 x 250lbs very close together) is the minimum required to kill a tank if they are spot on (I have killed many pnzrs with 500lb bombs and you can often release lower alt due to the lower blast radius compared to a 1000lb bomb). 1000lb just allows a larger blast which often ends up killing a tank. The only time I see a bomb or cannon not killing tanks is when they are sometimes in ack or in a bomb crater which somehow protects them. This isn't just associated with bombs - I was in a pnzr recently firing at another pnzr that was in ack. It took 20 AP rounds to kill the pnzr. This isn't the first time I've seen this either.

1000lb bomb plinks tanks every time for me
-
one 250lb can kill a tank, I have witnessed that, right into top.
This thread gives intresting point - if buffs can have some unrealistic advantages, why don't Panzers get advantage - same deal hey!
Some sunday driver with Hispanos can knock your tank before you even know what hit you, while in B-17 you have one army with you and super accurate norden, because they dont fly in big formations like real counterpats.
-
I can see having to hit the tank with 250lb'rs, but with a 1000lb I would think something in the crater radius should be enough to disable it at the very least if not totally disable it.
Twice this week I've gone hunting tanks with bombs, 1000lb'rs both times, yet not killed even one. I didn't hit it directly on the roof, but both times I hit with the tank, stationary, in the blast radius of the crater. It just sat there in the crater... one time I made another pass with my second bomb, the craters overlapped with the tank in the middle... then the tank drove away.
I want to be able to hunt tanks with bombs and not 20mm hispano. Maybe someone with real experience of the damage of a 1000lb bomb feels.

i havent had any trouble with tanks out in the open but sometimes ive had trouble hitting tanks near hangers etc.i assumed it was a bug of some kind exploited by the player in the tank.i reuested a longtime ago to have much larger explosions and they are much better but areas of effect shouldbe wider i think.
i live near london and a 400lb bomb was set off there by the IRA.Im probably 3 or 4 miles as a bird flies and it shook the glass on my windows, the damage was horrendous around th financial part of the city and i think you could have put the best tank in the world in that blast and it would have been blown to peices.if a tank was anywhere near a 500lb bomb it would be destroyed or at least disabled/wrecked by concussion alone.500lb bombs are BIG bombs, 1000lbers id imagine are horrendously powerfull.
if im in a tank and a bomb lands near me i figure its fair that im dead.

Yep Hazed I've never seen a 500 pounder go off but my dad saw quite a few of them land on some oriental acquaintances of his and he said they are unbelievably powerful.

SEE? funked knows (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I have had no problems with this... a 250lb bomb can kill a tank easily if it hits it.
Don't forget that if you miss he will drive right through the crater, and sometimes the crater can "move" depending on the angle you look at it. Usually if this happens- you just missed and are seeing him drive through it.
-
I nearly always fly a B26 loaded with 250lbs and I've only killed one pnzr with a 250 and I presume the pnzr was already half damaged by other aircraft etc. (most my pnzr kills, apart from being in a pnzr, are from F4Us or P47s, usually loaded with 500lbs) I've seen my 250 show hit sprites and it's never killed any... so those that have killed with 250s, perhaps the pnzr had already sustained some hits, even MG might be enough to register the kill>?!>!

Well, one thing I've learned is if you're going after panzers, leave the rockets in the hanger. You can do more damage to a tank by opening the canopy and spitting on it as you fly by.

Just treat them like cannons. They work pretty good at point blank. The Typhoon's rockets on the other hand, are a joke.

Yeah, I've had problems with the Typhoon rockets too, not sure what it is but the 20mm still seems more effective. I tend to leave the rockets in the hanger unless I'm going after M16's. Against an M16 they are reall effective... but so is 20mm or .50 cal.
The tank I hit, or tried to, was standing totally still, and come to think of it, the one I missed with 2 1000lb'rs was right next to the Tower at an airfield. He wasn't tucked in, but he was within 3 tank lengths of touching it. The bombs I dropped had him clearly in the crater, both times, and I made several passes just to convince myself that he was still alive. The fact that he drove away after that startled me a lot.
