Well, I'm going to sell my Gamo air rifle first though :)
My 223 leaves holes to big to recover meat from rabbits (yes I like rabbit meat, its like lean chicken) so I'm thinking of getting a .22lr
I'm thinking of getting a Savage Shorty, bolt action 22lr with integral suppressor, any of you gun nuts have any feedback on these babies?

Savage makes some accurate rifles. They are typically on the bottom of the price spectrum and they don't spend a lot of time on the looks of the rifle. They do have a good reputation for accurate rifles in spite of the low cost. Suppressors are not common on this side of the globe so no experience there, sorry.

Ruger 10/22, Best 22.cal rifle ever made IMHO. (until you start getting into the custom made target rifles).
Mine has the synthetic stock instead of wood, had it over 10 years and never had a problem. Shoots very well.

Yeah the rugers are pretty popular here as well.

I believe so.

I've had 2 ruger 10/22's. They both had the worst triggers I have ever used outside of a cheap toy gun. The magazine catch is hard to manipulate and accuracy was borderline acceptable at best. My old cheap Marlin shoots better compared to the Rugers. The one thing that the Ruger does have is the ability to be modified to the point you can't recognize it's a Ruger any more. There are TONS of aftermarket things to make the Ruger shoot better. IMO it needs some of them.

I just read about it; that looks like a really awesome gun if the price doesn't bother you too much. Especially what you want to do.
-
If you can get it with your suppressor, the most accurate .22's I ever shot have all been Marlin 39A's. Tackdriver would be an accurate description.

I have a bunch of Ruger 10/22's; fun to shoot but not anywhere close to the accuracy of the Marlin. An order of magnitude of difference.

Get a Plinkster. It's a mossberg 22, very good, a bit more accurate than a 10/22. :aok

Lots of good .22 rifles. I particularly the Marlin 60 semiauto and Savage Mark I bolt action single shot.
-
I have a henry repeater .22 and it is very accurate.

My uncle has that exact gun, except the barrel is a little bit longer.

Either the one Toad mentioned or the Marlin 880SQ which is a bolt action heavy barrel rifle intended for squirrel hunting. It comes with a seven round magazine and 1" Weaver Tip-Off Rings and black synthetic stock. I had the trigger worked a little bit for a crisper break. I would compare its accuracy to an Anschutz or Remington 40-X for 1/4 the price if you can find one.

I still have the Springfield .22 single bolt action that I've had since I was 6 (47 years ago) and I got it as a hand me down. It still works great.
My oldest brother nabbed the Savage 30-30 (about as old) and the Winchester 15 shot bolt action .22 (nice rifle) when my mom moved into assisted living. :frown:

agree with mav.. you may never break a ruger 10/22 but you will wish you could so that you could get an accurate rifle.. and one that doesn't have that stupid rotary mag.

Have to agree. I have a Savage 110FP in .308. Matches my buddies Rem. 700 PSP in accuracy and a Hell of a lot cheaper.

I have to agree with Vulcan and Toad. I've been shooting both those rifles since I was a kid. The Ruger I just passed on to my nephew (he just turned 17) and the Marlin I'm holding on to for a little while longer. Gotta love lever action rifles!
