I was watching the news last night and they were listing all these countries and saying that over 50% of the population was watching the US election closely. It was actually over 80% in Japan... higher than in the US! So that made me wonder, for those of you NOT from the US, who would you vote for; Obama or McCain (for your own reasons of course)?
-
5 Bucks says the majority votes for McCain. :aok
-
The entire world thinks Obama is quite literally the global messiah. Very very troubling to me. McCain would be better for the country and for the entire world, but Obama has the flash right now and lots of it.
In my opinion McCain can say in 5 words what Obama says in 20 words. It reminds me of Clinton and how astutely pompous he was when talking. I guess after listening to bush mutilate the english language for 8 years people want to get that winded feeling again.
It wont last and Obama will screw things up like theres no tomorrow and the flash will be gone.

Yeah, but most of the effects won't be felt until he's out of office, and some new guy will take the blame.

Either that or Obama delivers peace to all of Gods chosen people and the world settles into blissfull tranquility for seven years.
and then......

Is that an antichrist reference?

Nice hijack Yeager, here's 5 of McCains words "I will veto any BEER"!
-

My guess is that they would vote for neither as they are not eligible.
-
Ron Paul :noid
-
McCain would be better for the country and for the entire world,
:rofl
I like McCain as far as a hero goes, but he's subpar when it comes to being the kind of leader we need. I feel the same way about Oalabama.
-
Is that an Antichrist reference?
No, it relates to the subcutaneous possibility that Obama is in reality Jesus Christ in the flesh.
-

Of course I meant IF they could. C'mon now... no takers?
-
Any candidate that would castrate the US economically and diplomatically would be a favorite among the populations of many countries. For some he would create an opportunity to excel, for others an opportunity to exploit the weakness.
I'm not going to venture an opinion as to which one of the candidates will further this cause more, but I believe that this is the exact criteria that many would be looking for in our next American President.
-
A news report said that over 80% of Japanese are watching the US election closely? That's absurd.
The US election makes the news once in a while in Japan, but it's the fascination at watching Americans obsess over the two-year long carnival of it. It's like you've never seen or heard a politician before. The US election looks like professional wrestling and you are viewed as wrestling fans who think it is real. If anyone is watching it closely, they are probably laughing about it.
-
So really what you are asking is, Giant sweetheart, or Turd Sandwich.
-
Nice hijack Yeager, here's 5 of McCains words "I will veto any BEER"!
I look at it as more of a digression. Damn...too bad, I was leaning heavily towards the old white guy, but if Obama drinks great micro brews I will have
to re-evaluate my stance. I like the fact that he smokes. Shows the sort of self recklessness that always excites me!
-
The question is how do you wind up with these two in a country of 300 million?
Start in Iowa.
Why the hell do we start in Iowa?
-
:rofl

It seems somebody agrees with me. McCain and Obama really have nothing for the economy, they got the nomination because of the same thing, McCain was a hero, Obama is black.
I personally think that Mitt Romney would have done a whole lot better for the U.S. than John McCain. From what I read, Romney would have been loads better than McCain.
-
Robert Wexler for president!
"I like cocaine because.... it's a fun thing to do."
"I enjoy the company of prostitutes because.... oh, it's a fun thing to do."
-
:rofl

Pretty much how I feel about it.
While McCain is a hero and deserves all the respect in the world for his POW experiences 40 years ago.
It was still 40 years ago
McCains POW status has exactly zero relevence to today
Neither guy is "The Guy"
While many are outraged about the other guy.
What we all should be outraged at is the choice of guys we have

There is alot of interest in the us election over here. Both because the choise will have abit of an impact on things outside the US and because we wonder how such a large nation cant field more options to choose from. We are only 4,6 million yet have far more real political parties to choose from. Our elections are also more boring because its more about the politics and not so much about the celebrity/person at the top.
My "vote"? .. hmm.. based on foreign policies it would be Obama, but if i had to think about your domestic policies im not sure who has the balls to get the house in order. Many of the issues like guncontrol that is so interesting for many of you bbs members has 0 effect on the rest of the world. I guess my vote would go for the guy who cares the most about the enviroment/future generations.
-
Who do you think should be USA:s next president?
Obama (82.2 %)
McCain (10.9 %)
No opinion (7.0 %)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total 85006 persons voted
This is taken today from 1 of our online Newspapers.
-
Not really that hard of a question.
Most from other countries would vote for Obama.
He`s an easy target, a pushover without a clue.
He has made that more than obvious.
-
Obama seems like Clinton to me. He pushes for one thing, then turns right around and takes the other side. I remember him saying that he was immediately going to withdraw troops, and now, he talks about them maybe being gone in 2010. :O
McCain is the same to me. I know McCain wont win just because of how much the media covers Obama and not McCain...
-
Since I can't write-in Ron Paul in my state, I'll be voting for Bob Barr on the Libertarian ticket. McCain nor Obama have the interest of America in mind.

No offense to Ron Paul, but I read a little paper about him at a speech thing in Austin Texas, and he seemed kinda like a nutt to me. He wanted to get rid of our military completely (which is apparently different now) and get rid of welfare, but at the same time, close up our borders... :huh
-
He does not want to get ride of our military, but only to close some of the unneeded bases overseas. Why do we need 800(?) bases outside our own country. He wants the military to spend that money in the US instead of pouring it into countries that hate us. He wants us to have a strong military, but doesn't want us to be the worlds police force. Walk softly but carry a big stick.
P.S. He does not like other countries making our military EQ.
P.P.S. You need to check out his voting record instead of believing what the media says, because they hate him.
-
No idea, I just cant grasp obama as president, and McCain seems a little off.
-
While I admit I don't know both sides policies and issues inside and out I would vote for MCCain.
I'll give you my reason and it is lame. With Hillary and Obama going round after round all we heard about are the good the bad and the ugly regarding Obama. I have not yet heard the good the bad and the ugly regarding McCain but I'm sure that will be forthcoming.
-
What I find amusing about this is Obama is very obviously campaigning in foreign countries, and pretty much presenting himself as the preordained next President of the U.S.
-

An accurate insight on their part. The winner of the Presidential race will have the same effect as the winner of the WWF title has on the WWF. Nothing will change.
-
Probably true, Toad. The problem lies in the fact that the campaign process has become a circus.
-
The entire world thinks Obama is quite literally the global messiah.
The whole world laughs at this election. You either get a political teenager or a too politician. At least here where i live :D

The bigger problem in my view is that while everyone is closely watching the Presidential race, 95% of encumbants running for congress will be re-elected even though they rate half as trustworthy as used car salesmen.

Here in Minnesota we've already got a heated Senate race going between Norm Coleman and, yes, you've got it right... Al Franken! Yikes! Added to that, Jesse Ventura almost threw his hat in the ring but bowed out at the last second.
It seems, increasingly, you have to be a celebrity of sorts to get into politics. Sad. We might as well just elect Jessica Simpson, Brittney Spears or Lindsy Lohan, making the call by the most searched celebrities on Google. Look out world... "Oops, I did it again". On the other hand we may end up with a beneficial program like an international ban on killing Sea Chickens.
-
no.. something will change.. the winner will appoint judges who will be around to do damage long after he has been booted out.
