Title: Warp factor 9999999999999999
Post by: skernsk on June 22, 2000, 12:27:00 AM
Tonight I was getting frustrated beyond belief..I would close on the con and at about 500yrds poof!!! the bugger would warp 1k away.
My system is new and as far as I know all drivers are current.  Any thoughts???
Also it was not too fun taking off with a frame rate of 4 due to all the smoke, is there a way to turn off smoke?

if you want to take off from a field with lots of smoke going off and your framerates are in the toilet you can turn on the auto take off to get you airborn and past the framerate hit.

Two tips: don't fly near smoke, abbreviate your veiwing range (F1?)and remove ground clutter (CTRL C) to help if you must
Also, make sure nothing is running in the back ground when you fly (don't be downloading MP3's in other words or have FASTFIND enabled), look into optimising your ISP connection AND maybe even a better ISP.
Warps are due to your connection.

Warps lately may also be due to the fact that Skuzzy said last night that 30 gig of downloads occured yesterday afternoon.  The equivelent of 2499 game downloads.

what he said skernsk. only its (shift+F1) for short range view. You using 16bit or 32 bit? I'm using a voodoo3 2000, at 1024, 16 bit and never went below 16 fps with 2 huge smoke clouds. Also turn of the triple buffering sumthin or other in the video setup.

Folks, there is congestion occurring from the new release.

Once the downloads settle down, all should get back to normal.

Most of the downloads are going over the Verio (alt arena) connection, but the updates are still going over the Savvis (main arena) connection.

Working with HT to move all downloads to the Verio pipe.

All of this is pretty much a short term problem.  We have plans in place to increase the pipes to the Internet, so this should be the last time a release causes this type of problem.

Actually unless I am mistaken (I'm at work) Alt-F1 is the normal view.  Alt-F2 clips the scenery out to a certain range and Alt-F3 clips yet more.  Alt-F3 has the best FPS rate advantage and the worst graphics.

Good Luck!   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Maybe improving your connection too  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

"I got Athlon 1000, but I have 2400bps modem", kind of quote describes situation good.. (krhm, you can too have cable modem, but if cable modem provider is bad, con is bad too)
