Basically the Olympic committee didn't "Feel" that Iraq's Olympic Committee was free from politics. So they banned Iraq from attending the games.
If there was ever a time that the international community proved their lack of worth, and what general dickheads they were, it is now.
Does anyone else see anything different with this?
-
Yeah...Iraq shouldn't have to play by the rules!!
-
Does anyone else see anything different with this?
Yes.
The Iraq government abducted the legally appointed Olympic committee at gun point and put their own people in, against the rules.
I'm curious why you think they shouldn't have to abide be the rules?
-
But to say an elected committee as opposed to one put in place is free from politics is just absurd.
It's only a move to slap Iraq.
-
So, just because the U.S. has an invested interest in Iraq and doesn't like to loose face, you feel that a violent coup of the legally appointed committee should just be ignored and anyone who thinks different is just playing politics.
Alllllrighty then....
-
"The Iraqi government said it took the decision to appoint a new committee because the previous one was corrupt and had not been functioning properly.
Ahmad al-Samarra'i, chairman of the committee dismissed by the government, and several other members had previously been abducted by gunmen while attending a meeting in central Baghdad in July 2006.
They have not been seen since. "

Very sad.
Iraq even in relative stability (comparatively speaking), has decades of political and cultural reform ahead of them. And obviously, the prerequisite abductions, politically motivated murders, and the occasional religious car bombing/suicide run.

Male Bovine Excrement!
Iraq should be allowed to compete.
If China, North Korea, and Cuba can go, so should Iraq!
Can we PLEASE ditch the politics and just let athletes compete?
In ancient days, wars were put on hold so athletes could attend the games.

Agree with Rox and Laser on this one.

Ironic that the Olympic committee makes a political decision to prevent
politics from rearing it's ugly head
-
If this decision stands, I'd bet the olympic committee has just found 7 more terrorists on their hands.
If I was in the athletes' position, I'd be royally pissed to see all of my work go to waste.
