This is a P47 that I would love to see in the game. "Big bellybutton Bird II, flown by Howard Park of the 406th FG, 513th FS, 9th Air Force. Here are some pictures of it:

A little more info...This plane was assigned to the defence of Bastogne, during the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. The 406FG, in which the aircraft was a part of, also helped support Gen. Patton's U.S. Third Army's advance to relieve the battered 101st Airborne Division who heroicly defended Bastogne. Here is a painting of Thunderbolt's of the 406th flying over Gen. Patton advancing army.

I did it for the D-25, as the original aircraft didn't have a tail fillet according my records...
If you want it for the D-40, let me know and I'll add the tail fillet in.
Drop me an email at jherne at wi dot rr dot com and I'll email you file.
I've also done a D-25 for Balls Out...

I'm making some tweeks (these are my first two skins...) and will be submitting them soon.

Jeff

The words on Big bellybutton Bird should go OVER the OD, not have the OD conform to the words.

Can you support the fact that the original was over the OD and not around it, as you claim?
The present-day aircraft is incorrectly painted, including the tail strip colors.
But don't take my word for it, I only ran an air museum for 10 years.
This is why I don't post anything, instead of casual comment, the only thing you point out is what's wrong.

The original Big bellybutton Bird wasn't a D-30, nor was it a D-25. It was most likely a D-27, D-28 variant. The tail fillet was a field-applied modification, but the aircraft did not have the tail fillet at the time of the sole Fw-190 kill. It did receive the fillet later on, so you can technically use this skin on either bubble-top D model.
I have some photos of the original aircraft (the 1944-45 version, not the airshow version) that will post up later on.

I was looking at all of the other pictures in this thread, and every single one, including the other profile, had it painted differently. It would seem to me, that that would be correct.

Which is why, as a military historian by trade, I never use someone's drawings unless I know the provenance of the research materials he'she uses. Modern-day warbirds, especially flying examples and not preserved museum types, are often mispainted.
In this case, I used the profile done by noted P-47 historian Chris Sherland, along with original photos of the actual aircraft.
You'll also notice in all the images that Tony posted, that some show the aircraft with a tail fillet, some don't, and the positioning of the lettering on the side with reference to fore-and-aft is also different. Even the squadron tail colors on the modern warbird are incorrect.
You guys don't know me from Adam, but I've been involved in historical aviation, including aircraft recovery and restoration, for years. Although I'm not as gifted in the electronic side of creating skins, I certainly have the historical background and references (about 3000 books) in the library.
When I first start playing, I was stoked to learn we could 'repaint' (as it was called back in the CFS days). Then I found that Roger and Greebo have already done most of the prettiest aircraft, so I'll just have to get into the archives (10,000+ photos too) and see what other colorful aircraft I can come up with.

Here ya go Tony...for the D-40

To be honest, I really wasn't looking that closely. What I saw on the nose of your skin really jumped out at me, so I went back, looked at the other pictures posted and it seemed wrong. Of course, I didn't bother actually researching it, I just looked at the references he provided. Good job with the skin, and hopefully we can see more from you to replace those JeepinAZ has asked to remove.
