Title: California Leads the Way
Post by: 59funkman on July 25, 2008, 06:44:23 PM
I applaud this move. (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/26/us/26fats.html?em&ex=1217131200&en=177d2d602bc884b7&ei=5087%0A)  It's amazing that poisons like trans fats are legal in most places, while beneficial things like marijuana are illegal.  I expect to see the rest of the nation follow suit.  An especially proud day for America's greatest state.

First Im going to say that law is disgusting.
Another law by the government designed to protect us from ourselves.

I could see forcing establishments to list ingredients including trans fat.
then the cusumer can decide if they want ot eat it or not.
But telling a business how to run is business?
I dont think so.

As for this countries greatest state.

I certainly hope that was tongue in cheek sarcasm.
If not.

Well I'll just sit back. eat some popcorn and watch the show as they tell you all about the "Kalifonia" LOL

Geesh....freakin liberals.

They don't like the govt taping foreign conversations to fight the war on terror but they LOVE the same govt that they don't trust with their privacy to tell them what to eat and how it should be cooked.

Yes if Kalifornia had it's way it'd be susi and tofu for everyone.  You can wash that down with some organic soy milk and an urbal tea while you smoke your joint!

freakin amazing.

PS I don't trust my govt to decide either example I gave in the comparison

You mean the state that allowed an Illegal to kill a Man and his two sons to NO punishment to the guy who did it?

P.S. I know all about marijuana, it's not as bad for you as cigarettes, but it frys your brain cells. My friend who does it cant concentrate on one thing at a time now... :lol

No no... poor Edwin Ramos did not - I REPEAT - DID NOT kill those people.

His Evil AK-47 "Assault Weapon" did.

The weapon has been apprehended and will be punished - Ramos will be freed immediately!

I will find one thing incredibly amusing as I lead the revolution.

In it, I will forever ban anyone who is or ever has worked in government from ever again working in the government.

They will squirm more than the welfare "Blackholes" (news topical pun fully intended) who get their free money turned off.

Folks wake up it isn't the transfat that is doing it to us. Look a little more closely at the items in your soft drinks and in the bread you buy at the grocery store...HFCS aka High Fructose Corn Syrup. That stuff turns off receptors in your chemical balances that tell you when you are full and have had enough. Sure you can control it but when you see big Bertha and Monster Jimmy sitting down at a 4 top table in Golden Corral and you wonder why they need 6 chairs to hold all that bellybutton just remember HFCS. Stop going to places like McDonalds and other fast food restaurants and you will understand that you can eat just about anything in smaller portions and feel better as well.

Energy taken in needs to be spent, or it ends up in storage..  And another thing that's really common nowadays is the apetizing chemicals.  They'll make people not paying attention crave for something as nutritionaly useless as 100% synthetic ketchup.

You know, the most ironic part of this attempt at social engineering, is that it will have the OPPOSITE effect of the supposed goal.

The Average Person on the street will see Fast Food as HEALTHIER, and will thus eat it more often.

BTW, I believe that is the goal of the legislators - they've been lobbied from the inside by the fast food corporations to pass this law - with the end result being a way to "Heathify" their image and increase consumption.

Ribeyes are good natural food.  Trans fats are synthetic poisons created by industry to increase profits.  If you can't see the difference...

Maybe you should read rule #6...

I live in a country where I am free to eat whatever I choose.  It is not the business of the gubment or even you to save me from myself.  The whole idea of outlawing foods because they are not healthy is completely outragious and is the epidomy of slippery slope.  The notion of not letting them get their foot in the door is completely lost on you, isn't it?

California isn't leading the way. It's holding the nation back. California is known as Dumb****istan in Texas, crime flourishes in California and for being "efficient" go look at LA during the day. If your white, go through the wrong part of town at 10PM, see what happens. IF California is leading the nation, it's leading it in shootings, deaths, and pollution.

We have banned DDT, Sacharin, lead in paint, asbestos in ceiling tiles, red dye no. 5 and just about a thousand other things when it is discovered they can damage our health- What is the difference with trans fat? I'ts been demonstrated to be unhealthy- Do you think the Government should ignore proven health hazards like trans fats? LOL, not having asbestos ceiling tiles in our children's classrooms makes us a Nanny State???? Or not being able to paint toys with lead based paint??

DAMN duh Libruls, man! I wanna drink trans fat and spray DDT on my strawberries but the nasty old Libruls won't let me!! :(

Too much...Some of you need to go far a walk, get from fresh air. Breathing that lead based paint in your mother's basement all day can't be healthy.  :noid

The Sun causes cancer so it should be illegal to go for a walk outside.  Also, you might trip and hit your head on the curb, the State shouldn't allow that to happen either.

Easy answer.

Eating at a place that uses trans fat is an individual choice.
Not something that is forced upon you.

You didnt have a choice with DDT, or any of the others. Whatever company decided they were going to use it and that was that.

Here you have a personal choice to eat there or not.

If you dont want to eat trans fat.
Dont eat at a place that uses it.

Just like whats on TV or the radio. If you dont like whats on. You change the station.
You can choose for yourself.
You dont need the government ot choose for you.

So if a company started selling donuts with, say, arsenic in them, you'd be cool with that?

So if a company started selling donuts with, say, arsenic in them, you'd be cool with that?

People should be free to choose, even if that choice is one of which poison to take... No matter how you spin it, robbing them of the ability to decide is an act of governmental control.

Tax the restaurants that use it, raise the prices of the food to offset the rise in cost of healthcare, but don't make the decision for the people...A couple steps down the line you'll be making posts about how great it is that CA finally illegalized cars that can go over 65 MPH.

Then again, finding new and exciting shortcuts to free thought is what the 'greatest state' seems to be all about these days, so carry on.
Title: Re: California Leads the Way
Post by: Hornet33 on July 28, 2008, 11:07:20 AM
Kind of a leap there isn't it? Arsenic will kill you immediately and is a known poison, trans fat wont and isn't. I'll even be willing to prove that. You take a tablespoon of arsenic and drink it and I'll drink a tablespoon of trans fat. Any takers on who will and wont be going to the hospital?

Thanks for playing and try again some other time when you have something a little less extreme to use as a basis of comparision.

So if a company started selling donuts with, say, arsenic in them, you'd be cool with that?

Sure, as long as they posted the ingredients.  In minute amounts, arsenic has medicinal properties and will not kill you.

By the way, since when did trans fat kill anyone as fast as a good dosage of arsenic?

Anyone can make some wild comparisons too, but it does not validate the position.  Quite the opposite.  It only affirms the desperation some have to be taken care of.

Hey, I believe in Gov't mandated exercise programs for State and Federal workers too. As long as my tax money is spent on their health care I have a reasonable expectation they keep themselves healthy....And come to think of it that should apply to welfare recipients too. When they come to the welfare office to pick up their checks make them get on a treadmill for 20 minutes.

We've already established this precedent with seat belt and helmet laws- the Gov't. has the right to legislate your better health. See, us Liberals are kinder and gentler than the Conservatives- whereas they are Big Brother, and they're watching you, us Libs are Big Mamma, and it's for your own good.

They will not ban smoking or alcoholic consumption as there are too many of their politicians who enjoy those things.

I would venture to say far more people have died from smoking and/or drinking than have every died from trans fat.  But that's OK.  Hypocrisy seems to be a staple of those who begs for government control of their lives.  Maybe they should ban that first?

Quite funny watching them try to defend it though.
