Gunner Positions on a B-26 are given a different number than the same position on a B-17 & wonder why, [my guess is the numbers were arbitrarily assigned originally], when the only real difference between the two is the additional Ball Turret on the B-17.
Reason I ask is because it can get real confusing during the heat of battle when you have the numbers programmed to a joystick & the positions are different depending on which plane you're flying at the time....
.....you spot a con sliding in on your six, poke the button for Tail-gunner & wind up looking out of the nose blister.
.....or try to jump into the Ball Turret to trade lead with some sneaky bogie that's suddenly doing serious damage to your underbelly & find yourself topside looking at a pretty blue & empty sky
.....then in the excitement visit a couple of other gun positions before you finally get it all sorted out
.....and when you do you're already a flaming meteor headed for the hard deck.
Some fun, hey? :-)
Would it be possible to have gun position numbers assigned based on gun position so each position has the same number no matter what bomber you're flying?
As an easy fix you can keep the B-17's gunner position list as is & only have too make 2 simple changes to the B-26 gunner position list - (A)There is no positon with the #2 (B)The original positions 2-6 drop down one number & become 3-7 like this:
# B17 B26
1 Pilot Pilot
2 Ball -
3 Upper Upper
4 Tail Tail
5 Nose Nose
6 Lwaist Lwaist
7 Rwaist Rwaist

If one thing drives me crazy,... this is it!
I basically do not fly the 26 anymore because of this problem. I always seemed to get hammered when I am jumping around to the nose, or where ever.
