Title: Gunsights
Post by: JunkyII on July 28, 2008, 09:30:33 PM
Do the better gunsights help your aim? I use the default gunsight and shoot alright but i see these screenshots with these cool looking ones. Could someone possibly post about where i go for these?

I like the Jabo sight with two dots....it is simple and functional. I would post a link to it, but I cannot remember where I got it.

Does anyone have a gun sight that fixes the Tiger sight? I notice you can't range all the way out because the black part covers the bottom of the gun sight.

THERE IS ONLY ONE SIGHT ... The "Dot 'O Death" sight ...

Here are the sights that I use. They are alpha (illuminated) sights.

You place both the default.bmp and default_alpha.bmp into the HTC\Aces High II\sights directory and when choosing the sight in AH setup, you chose the default.bmp

You might want to backup your \sights directory before making any changes.

Fighter: Carefull here because it is named "default". This should automatically change all plane gunsights to this sight without a lot of effort.

(http://pages.cthome.net/crzn22/AHGunsights/default.bmp) <- default.bmp

(http://pages.cthome.net/crzn22/AHGunsights/default_alpha.bmp) <- default_alpha.bmp.bmp

Jabo: For this sight I explicitly go into the AH setup and choose this one for all the planes that I use for JABO. The bottom dot is what I use to line up the bomb drop on. Usually try to get 45 degree angle on drop using the lower dot.

(http://pages.cthome.net/crzn22/AHGunsights/default2.bmp) <- default2.bmp

(http://pages.cthome.net/crzn22/AHGunsights/default2_alpha.bmp) <- default2_alpha.bmp.bmp

Credit here to Mitsu's buddy AERO. I took one of his sights and modified it.

i agree with a dot, but i just use a fine tip dry erase marker, and dab a small blue dot on my LCD exactly where the center of the dot is. you can then move your head to any position and still have a makeshift "gun sight".. kinda like the mouse pointer / h trick but it's always there.

works for everything.. ostie/wirble with your head up out of turret, soft guns, plane gunsights, etc. etc. also helps with attitude control in things without a gunsight, like bombers and c47's.

If any of you want to customize your own gunsights, it is very easy to do.  MSPaint is probably the easiest and quickest way to make one.

If you are having a hard time starting from scratch, take one of Aces High's preset ones and modify it in paint, then save it as a new gunsight.

Also another quick hint if you find it a lengthy process to change your gunsight for each plane/vehicle in-game:  When you edit the gunsight, save it as the original and it should be switched.  Make sure you move your original copy from Aces High into a different folder.

Use the [] or the arrow keys

That doesn't fix it... For what ever reason, in a Tiger, if you zoom all the way in using the [] keys the bottom few range icons go off of the screen.  So you can't range anything long distance. While I was just playing with it, I noticed that if you zoom all the way in then use the  up down arrow keys you can get it to align right.

However thats two seprate steps that have to be taken, when you go full zoom to correct the problem, but that can mean the diffrence in getting killed or not. None of the other tanks have this problem.

This is a example..

To get range in any tank, including the tiger, you can manouevre your head position using pg up & pg dn, and then rotate your view downwards using f8 followed by arrow keys. Using this method, you can (in the panzer) elevate the turret to max and still maintain a zoomed in sightline to your target (on level ground).

It is possible, with practice, to hit VBases from such a range that they do not flash with a Panzer and HE shells.

As for gunsights, the red dot is a favourite.

Does anyone remember the singlepoint gunsight?

Yes I understand you "can" do that.. the problem is none of the other tanks have this sight glitch that require you to adjust head position every time you spawn the tank. I'm not a noob tanker, I know how to zoom in and out, and adjust views. The problem is, that's one more thing that has to be done in a Tiger that doesn't have to be done in any other tank.

I can jump in a Panzer, M4 , M8 and instantly zoom with no need for head adjustment corrections to see the whole gun sight. With the Tiger if I full zoom I have to make a head position adjustment in order to get use of the full gun sight. That shouldn't have to happen. (I'm unsure if it's the same or not with the T34 because I never use it)
