It is getting pretty normal tactics these days when a M3 or C47 is dropping of troops at a totaly destroyed field to spawn a buff and shoot all you have at the goon driver.
If you can get close, BOMB the goon driver! From 2 feet of the ground.... If you die, spawn anotherone 1.2 seconds directly after that! Hell, you only need to 'hit' one of those drunks to safe the base!
Time and again I see this tactic. And yes, if desperate, I will use it myself. However, it remain a lame and unreal tactic. A goon has to drive some 5 minutes minimum to the enemy base only to be killed by an instaspawning buff gunner dropping bombs from 2 feet altitude.
Can we PLEASE PLEASE get the following thingies implemented?:
-Planes are unable to shoot while still on the ground (like the buff turrets).
-Bombs won't explode if dropped from taxi'ing planes
-If you die, it takes a minimum of 30 seconds to spawn again.
My guess is that at least one of these 3 options is easy to implement and would reduce these silly instaspawn goon killer 3feet altitude buffs.

Nope...bad idea. Why go to all that trouble coding something like that when the players already have the means to prevent it? I would rather see HTC spend their time on new planes and updates than taking time to do something like this.
You dont like buffs spawning and carbombing yer troops then kill all the hangars before you try to capture. Its as easy as that.

I agree with sling, I pay to fly not sit for 30 seconds wondering how much of my money I am really using. Disable bombs until engine has been running for 20 seconds would be best sollution, otherwise stop trying to take a base with hangers intact (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

What is the difference in attitude of the car bombers taking out a M3 to keep their field. And the seeming up take in Kamakazi Jabo guys who dive into the hangars dropping their bombs at the last instant? I dont care for either, but it seems to be an expanding trend in the MA.
-
When I approach a dead field in a C47 or M3 with the Bomber Hanger the only standing structure I get pissed at my side for leaving it up, I know the defenders will use what we leave them.
In fact in the future, if the BH is up I will seriously consider aborting.

When did they put this thing in here and WTF is it for?
-
Im sick of this stupid argument of just kill the buff hangar. I wonder how many of these folks support re-allowing buffs to fire their guns on the ground?
This is no different than bombers firing their guns on the ground, it urealistic BS and should be fixed.
In fact HTC was supposed to fix this in 1.05 I think it even made it into the readme, but wasnt implemented.

Just up the time of hangar downtime in the main arena.
I thought that bomber gunners were already unable to shoot on the ground and were only able to use guns mounted for pilot.
-
There is indeed no difference to a kamakazi pilot dropping his bombs in a dive and a ground driving buff... All except the buff can respawn in 1.65 seconds and a kamakazi pilot needs to fly to the base. thats a several minute difference.
Dropping all hangars sure is an option... at least, till the fields get bigger and dropping all hangars is next to impossible unless you bring 10+ attackers just to stop one player from defending.
All planes can fire their pilot guns from the moment they enter the plane. Since the B26 is pretty level with it's nose, it can shoot all across base instead of up in the air. A drunk dies not when it's get hit but if it's get shot at in it's general direction.
So as long as the BH is up, it is next to impossible to capture a base.... Now you explain me that logic... The VH I can understand... but the BH?
And for those who don't like those 30 second waits without being able to fly... Well, if you can't wait for 30 seconds, why are you in this game? Buff missions are 30 minutes at least if you wanna land your bird and GV rides to nme bases can take up to 15 minutes. And you complain about 30 seconds!?!? Goto bed 5 minutes laters and fly your plane and you have enough 30 seconds to last your weekend through.
just my 2 cents,

Let me reiterate what I said before....

This issue is almost as ridiculous as the one I saw earlier in the week asking for an auto door opener for bombers. You have the means to assure that the car-bombers dont show up by killing the hangars, but you would rather have HTC spend time (that could be better spent bringing other planes to the game) coding something like this so that it makes it easier for you to take a field. WAAAAAH!!! I certainly hope that HTC spends no time coding anything like this.
If ya cant get enough guys together to help ya take down a field the right way, then go join a squad or something.....just quit whining about something that you can prevent.

They should waste the time to fix it because it's not right. Do we want realism or gameplay concession? How far are you willing to push the gameplay envelope? Ordnance has safety devices installed to prevent accidents on the ground. It's not included in AH, so something is missing. It should be added.
-
What part of "take down the bomber hangars before you capture" do you not understand?
Its pretty simple really.
I agree that ordnance should be disabled while you are on the ground, but once again....if you take out the bomber hangars then you dont have a problem do you?

You don't need to kill the hangars even, just the ammo bunkers, and those are down for 30 minutes. About 50 rounds of .50 cal or 13mm each.
-
The only really annoying part of base capture/defense IMO is the totally unrealistic way that a chog can destroy a hangar by strafing it.
Since when did a steel/wood/concrete structure blow up because of a few rounds of 20mm???
I thought the hardness of air base buildings would be higher than that.

Lookie here Slingblade. I know all about taking down the damn hangar. That's not the point. There were and are safeties on aircraft and weapons whose sole reason for existence is to prevent ordnance from detonating/operating while on the ground. It should be modeled as such.

The guys who strafe and bomb on the ground need to go away. That kind of crap does not belong in a WWII sim. Disable all weapons when an aircraft is on the ground, now please.
-
Eheh, we have a pretty good example of the Quake people here. Funked is right, the only and simplest solution is to disable bomb dropping (and gunning) while on the ground.
-
What a bunch of popsicle whiners.
there's more than one report of top turret gunners contining to fire from ditched buffs (check out your Ploesti books and links).
If you go straffing a vehicle containing several tons of avgas (never mind the bombs)you can expect it to go "Boom!" in a satisfying manner. Don't stand next to it, nor order your drunks to do so.
Several RAF installations were completly disabled by straffing during the BoB, luckily they were buff fields (Brize Norton springs to mind as a good example).
Do your job properly. Want to take a base? Flatten it first.
Practise more, whine less.
