Vote for him at your own peril.

Until they find proof that my ancestors even had slaves or a plantation, I aint giving away anything. The Democrats should be paying for it now. The Ghetto is the same as slavery.
-
Hey hey hey!!!
Wait a minute. My family payed in blood for the north in that war. They fought to end slavery in the Civil War. I want some of that action!
It is only fair.
-

I think that if anything, well-to-do law abiding citizens deserve reparations from whatever <fingerquotes>INDENTIFYABLE</fingerquotes> group dominates in terms of causing our nation's crimes. If anything, that's what we should be talking about if we're gonna talk reparations. What happened centuries ago is irrelevant. :aok
-
I support slave reparations...
For those slaves who are still alive.
-
Damn yankees

Has it occured to any of these bleeding heart liberals that just about EVERY civilized country at one point in their history used slave labor? White europeans, jews, gypsies......were all enslaved at one point by some type of govt or empire. What makes blacks so freakin special?

They're black. If you're against that you're a racist.

Obviously money solves everyone's problems...

Not theirs, you give em money, they keep asking for it.

this could get very very ugly.

This is not a racial issue because blacks had slaves too. A greater percentage of blacks owned slaves when compared to whites. There were over 3000 black slave owners in New Orleans by 1860.
From americancivilwar.com:
According to federal census reports, on June 1, 1860 there were nearly 4.5 million Negroes in the United States, with fewer than four million of them living in the southern slaveholding states. Of the blacks residing in the South, 261,988 were not slaves. Of this number, 10,689 lived in New Orleans. The country's leading African American historian, Duke University professor John Hope Franklin, records that in New Orleans over 3,000 free Negroes owned slaves, or 28 percent of the free Negroes in that city.
To return to the census figures quoted above, this 28 percent is certainly impressive when compared to less than 1.4 percent of all American whites and less than 4.8 percent of southern whites. The statistics show that, when free, blacks disproportionately became slave masters.
The majority of slaveholders, white and black, owned only one to five slaves.
Concerning reparations...how would it be determined who got what? And from whom? Some blacks would be subject to pay reparations if such a thing were to come about.
I'm against reparations. I think it's foolish for our present government to apologize for something they had no part in.

Nothing is ever simple and straightforward where Barry Obama and words come together. Obama's pirouettes on the question of reparations would enchant any balletomane; his position always depends on who is asking and who is listening. And who is watching.
Yathink?
I mentioned in another thread the uncanny resemblance to what is spewing forth from this cat`s mouth to that of what Jim Jones used to
entice and take control of his peoples lives. Obama`s political speeches , what he is saying he wants to accomplish and the promise of an unattainable Socialistic and Eutopian like existence , all could have been written by Jim Jones.
I`m not a Kool-Aid fan myself.
I personally find it more than a little unnerving that any rational minded adult in this country could be so naive and ignorant as to fall for his line of total BS.

Several hundred bought a line years ago.....time and votes will tell how many buy it again. This country is FULL of believers in the Mesiah Obama. He's the 2nd coming. He is the leader of the WORLD and will bring us all together in a puple hazed kumbaya utopian world. He promises!!!

Funny you read his speech and then you read what he really meant on a wingnut website.

I have a feeling were gunna get a lot more casinos built... :lol
-
My relatives came to the U.S. after 1900 from Poland. What am i gonna be paying for?
-
I see this topic ending badly.
-
When Obama can present one person living today that lived under slavery in the U.S. I will pay the reparations myself.
-
I think it is a good idea. ;)
A greater percentage of blacks owned slaves when compared to whites.
I can just hear the outraged howling from the blacks when the blacks have to fork out because they were also slave owners. In fact, would go so far to say, since they owned the greater percentage compared to the 'whites', they should pay the greater percentage of the reparations.
-
This is all covered as part of the democratic initiative on immigration reform.
It's pretty simple, really.... all blacks that can trace ancestry here in the US to pre-civil war will be awarded one illegal immigrant, the $5,000 bond for stay of deportation paid by the federal government.
Any surplus illegals already here (not already deeded to blacks) can stay with payment of a 5,000 bond. Most will be paid by the sweatshops they work for, and the cost worked off via 'indenture'.
Any 'free range' illegals remaining can be vouchered by white citizens as long as they contract for veterinary... errr 'medical' costs with a private provider and pony up the $5,000 fine.... errr; "domestication bond".
I understand there's gonna be a 10% neutering discount available on the males.
I love this country.... justice for the black man; at last!
-
Prior to his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004 Obama opposed reparations for slavery. After his election, Obama subtly changed his view, stating he was against "just signing over checks to African-Americans," leaving open the possibility of other forms of reparations would be acceptable to him (Chicago Tribune 11/14/2004).
Do you even read the stuff you link?

i'm a slave.
slave to the PRNJ. slave to the fed government. slave to the IRS :D
would you like to pay me the reparations in cash, or check? i can take credit cards too, but i'll hafta charge ya an extra 3% :D
-
I can prove my ancestors helped to smuggle escaped slaves out of the country to Jamaica. How much will Obama give me? :D
-
I'll support reparations for the descendants of black slaves just as soon as I receive my check from the Italian government for enslaving my ancestors back around the turn of the Common Era.
-
Funny you read his speech and then you read what he really meant on a wingnut website.
Well, since I assume you disagree with my observation that Obama supports Reparations for Slavery, please enlighten me:
What, in your own words, is Obama's position on reparations for Slavery ?
MT, please feel free to enlighten me as well.

Foolish American slaves, bow to your owners!

I would not get into to much of a tizzy over cash being handed over. After all was there not an agreement for 40 acres & a mule? They got stiffed then & they will be stiffed now.

You watched this and still think Obama is for reparations? That would be funny, but I think you are serious.
His exact words were "I think the reparation we need here in South Carolina is investment in our schools".. he then goes on to describe some crappy school he visited.
Hillary NEVER gives him a look, in fact she is nodding her head while he is talking.
The only Democrat who says that he is for reparations is Dennis Kucinich.

i'd be more concerned about the guy that asked the question? he looked to be in 30's or 40's? and he can barley talk?
is african americans going to git repirations? i know yall are gonna dance around this. :huh
he should consider going back to school(college possibly) and learn to speak properly.
repirations are one of the dumbest ideas there can possibly be in politics. no one living was a slave. no one living is/was affected by slavery. more blacks owned slaves than whites. just like now.....more blacks commit violent crimes against other blacks than whites do.
they're simply wasting resources to even debate this. there's many more important things to be debating than repirations.
and finally........they are NOT african americans. if they were born in america, they are AMERICANS. had they been born in africa, and moved to america, THEN they'd be african americans. they are people just like everyone else. period. or should i start calling myself a german/english american?
-
You are more concerned about the eloquence of some guy asking a question than you are about people spreading lies about a candidate for president?
heh.. ok.
-
I'm still waiting for him to answer a question. He never does, he just goes off on some tangent and ends up talking about something that has absolutely nothing to do with the question he was asked. Even his campaign website doesn't tell a person anything about where he really stands on any issue.
About the only thing that he has made clear is that he wants the federal government to have more control over every aspect of our lives and that he's not going to do anything that will really help anyone who actually works hard for a living to earn what they have.
-
There's only ONE WAY i'd grudgingly be for reparations.
Make it a ONE TIME lump sum payment. None of this once a month entitlement check for the rest of their lives crap. This will effectively give closure to the matter and all the money (at least 99%) that is paid out will be back with its rightful ownwer within one year.
-

heh.. ok.
95% of anything to do with a presidential candidate is lies. if they were spreading lies about anyone else, and everything else the same, i'd have said the same thing. it's the norm.

Tipical politician: Ask him what time it is and he'll explain how the watch is made.
Change? meh

no.....that would still be wrong. they were never a slave. even so, why should our govt give them money for something that they never suffered from.
the absolute only way that slavery can bother someone today(seeing as no one today suffered from it) is if they allow it.
-

I agree with you. My post was a poorly veiled stab at poor peoples' money handling skills (lifted from a Dave Chappel skit). This is not a racial thing. Give a white trash welfare mamma 100k and in a year it will be gone and she will be back applying for more food stamps. Case in point is the "Extreme Make Over" family whose "gimme" house is now in foreclosure. Poor people will invariable stay poor no matter how much money you give them.
-
Whenever this topic is brought up i always ask, are they going to track down and make the tribes that sold the slaves pay as well?
It's another stupid self pity idea, for people that don't want to do for themselves.
Like some other guys said, if you go back far enough in time, most people were slaves to one degree or another from conquering nations.
Obamination is just looking for more of the black vote.
-
Obama says : I would like all men to live free..
Wingnuts hear: Obama wants to free terrorists.
Paranoid much?
-
I know how to make this real easy. I'd create a form that anyone who believes they are entitled to reparations has to fill out before they can get anything.
Here is my form.
Reparations Request Form:
Please circle only one answer.
1. Are you now or have you ever been a slave? Yes No
If you answered yes please use the space below to give the name, last known address, and last known phone number of the person who owned you as a slave. As slavery is illegal the proper authorities will be notified. You will be contacted by a lawyer who specializes in slavery cases and they will assist you in your case.
If you answered no you deserve nothing.
Please have a nice day :)
See a very simple form that takes care of everything.

"I think the reparation we need here in South Carolina is investment in our schools"
I can't believe you quoted him saying "The reparations we need" and still think he's not for reparations - he says WE NEED THEM - how can it not be any clearer than that ?
-
I can't believe you quoted him saying "The reparations we need" and still think he's not for reparations - he says WE NEED THEM - how can it not be any clearer than that ?
because, although MTG might be a nice guy in rl, he seems to tend to only see one side of most things.

Lemme get this straight .... in your mind, such as it is, improving schools is synonymous with reparations for slavery?
Sounds like someone needs some comprehension reparations.
-

He was asked straight up if he was for reparations for slavery - Obama answered positively, in my mind saying: "yes - we need reparation money - and I would take said reparation money and invest it in black schools".
-
Oh please, you can't be that dense...
MT - I'll ask you once again - so you think I am wrong (and I do respect your opinion), please enlighten me: What is Obama's position on Reparations for Slavery ?
-
He said so already. Look up.
-
It always boggles my mind how some can TOTALLY MISINTERPRET a statement. Granted I won't be voting for either Obama or McCain in November, BUT, how can he say he quotes, and someone else is hearing something entirely different?
MT hit the nail on the head though. Definitely a case of Obama being "miscomprehended".
-
Sounds like someone needs some comprehension reparations.
That cracked me up :lol

When the moderator asked all of the candidates "who is for reparations" only Dennis Kucinich said he was for them. That seems pretty definitive to me.
-
Oh please, you can't be that dense...
I think we've discovered a new neutron star.
-
well in medievel times my family would have been living under the feudal system, so I demand reparations in the form of a lifetime supply of turnips!

I think we've discovered a new neutron star.

Just wondering... was Obama's example of reparations (in the form of investing in education) an artful slam on the (clearly uneducated) fellow posing the question ? If so I have to admit it was very clever. :rofl

i would be willing to bet that he's only interested in improving schools with a majority of the aforementioned minority though :D

How much?
-
I'll take that bet for $100. He's all about taking from the rich and giving to the poor, level the playing field and all.
-

You prove that Obama is ONLY interested in improving schools with over 50% minority enrollment, and you win. You fail at that one, and you will, I'll PM the address where to send my check.
-
You will NEVER get him to come out and say he's for throwing money at schools with greater than 50% minorities. You WILL get him to say he's for throwing money at inner-city schools that are failing. You will also get him to say that he would like to cut back on funding to "over-privilaged" suburban and rural schools that are succeeding.
-
You prove that Obama is ONLY interested in improving schools with over 50% minority enrollment, and you win. You fail at that one, and you will, I'll PM the address where to send my check.
see...the problem here, is he's too good at taking 15 minutes to answer a question that only required a 30 second answer. and when he's dopne, he still hasn't told anyone anything definite about the question.
soooo....we'll never be able to prove it either way. :D
-
sissies
-
sissies
ok, then...you prove us wrong then :D
-
If Obama is against reparations, my common sense tells me that he would say so. He has not made that statement as far as I know. When asked a direct question whether he supports reparations or not, he refuses to answer plainly and directly.
That is all the answer I need.
-
How about we see if he gets elected then hold the money for 4 years and see what the results are and settle up then.
I'll stick with the $100 bet about the schools.
I'll also toss in a $500 bet that he does NOTHING for 4 years just like his buddies in Congress. He'll talk alot but nothing will happen from it.
-
You prove that Obama is ONLY interested in improving schools with over 50% minority enrollment, and you win. You fail at that one, and you will, I'll PM the address where to send my check.
Can it be proven that the schools with the most problems are those with more than 50% minority enrollment. It would seem the greatest problems are inner city schools where the minority enrollment tends to be highest. Why not spend the money where it is needed?
-
I think we need to clarify the difference between "Affirmative Action/Civil Rights" etc and "Reparations".
Affirmative Action etc is all about leveling the current playing field. It's about addressing the supposed bias in American Society against African Americans.
Reparations is a completely different thing - Reparations, as I understand it, is compensating African Americans for unpaid work that their ancestors did (as slaves). What kind of compensation ? Well, depending who you ask, it can mean anything from a check in the mailbox (lump sum), a break from Federal Income Tax, or communal money pulled from the tax base and spent on programs designed to benefit African Americans.
We all know Obama is for Affirmative Action/Civil Rights - that's not the question here.
The question posed on that youtube link was NOT ABOUT Affirmative Action etc - it was about Reparations.
I liked Senator Edward's straightforward answer: "I'm not for Reparations" - but he added very quickly that he believed in Affirmative Action/Civil Rights. Like it or not, you know where he stands on both issues.
Obama did not give a "yes" or "no" answer.
He stated :
"I think the reparations we need right here in South Carolina is investment, for example, in our schools...
that's the kind of reparations that are going to make a difference in America right now"
I took the above answer as he is for Reparations - not the check in the mailbox or tax exemption kind, but rather the put-some-taxpayer-money aside for "Reparation Payment" in the form of communal African American investment (for things such as African American Eduction etc).
BTW, the "Corridor of Shame" in Florence SC is a collection of schools where African Americans make up the majority of students.
I believe, Obama is for Reparations - not in the form of a check in every mailbox, but in the form of grabbing tax dollars are earmarking them for African American communal investment on things LIKE education. I also believe that he's purposely vague about the subject - he carefully crafts his answers so that they're vaguely open ended - he makes people from BOTH sides of the issue think he's on their side.
That's why I say vote for him at your own peril. Reparations means extra taxation for some, extra gravy for others. All comes down to your
skin color.
-

they are doing that in camden. the parents don't like the kids comming home and actually having homework. the kids aren't getting any more than when they weren't trying.
it's a shame really. they cry about not getting help. then someone tries to help them, and they squeak and moan.
-
ok, then...you prove us wrong then :D
In order to prove your statement wrong I would just have to show ONE non-minority school supported by an Obama led initiative. I'll take that bet in a heartbeat.
-
The only Democrat who says that he is for reparations is Dennis Kucinich.
I was going to ask who this loon is. Thanks.
-
I think we need to clarify the difference between "Affirmative Action/Civil Rights" etc and "Reparations".
I'd group it "Civil Rights" vs. "Reparations/Affirmative action"
Yes to the former, no to the latter.
-
I say if they want reparations then offer those who insist on reparations an all expenses paid, permanent move to Liberia. Free at last - Free at last.....!
-
In order to prove your statement wrong I would just have to show ONE non-minority school supported by an Obama led initiative. I'll take that bet in a heartbeat.
Wait a minute, I see the problem here. MT, you think a bet means an agreement whereby the person that's wrong forfeits actual money to the person that's correct.
But to them, "willing to bet" means a a prediction that's so vague and nonspecific that nobody actually loses any real money. Soon as you start talking about specifics and real money, they backpedal faster than a rookie cornerback in man coverage on Randy Moss.
-
Well boy howdy do I feel silly... thanks for the clear-up.

If this makes it to the Senate, I bet HE will vote "present" once again. It takes male reproductive organs to take a stand and vote "yes" or "no".
Fairfax, VA -- Today, in a bi-partisan effort, Congressman Travis Childers, Congressmen John Dingell, John Tanner, Mike Ross and Mark Souder, along with 47 of their colleagues, introduced the Second Amendment Enforcement Act (H.R. 6691). This critical legislation overturns D.C.'s recently enacted emergency laws that continue to defy the recent Supreme Court ruling by continuing to restrict District of Columbia residents' right to self-defense. This National Rifle Association-backed bill is needed to enforce the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in District of Columbia v. Heller.

Funny you read his speech and then you read what he really meant on a wingnut website.
I second this opinion.

I second this opinion.
You know what I find funny ?
Lefties always cry foul or attack the speaker when something is said that they don't
agree with and cannot refute.
Instead of debating things out logically, they drop the emotional smokebombs, accusations
and then cut N' run. (ie: "WINGNUT!", "YOU'RE DENSE", "HIJACKER", "HOLLOCAUST DENIER", “RACIST!” *desperately-press-that-report-to-moderator-link* etc)
I seriously find that amusing - it's so childish, and is such a pathetic white flag waving act
of surrender. Abandon the argument and then wash it over with raw emotion.
You guys are such CHICKS.
C'mon – grow a pair – take charge... quit blaming your lot in life on others.

The righties' do the same thing on here all the time Slamfire. On this BBS, many times, they'll even begin the opening post of the thread with a verbal attack on the left. I don't see where they have much choice but to fight outta the gate.

So just so I'm clear, which part was the logical component of your argument -- Calling them chicks or the part about testicles?
-
Slamfire,
In your link he said:
"I consistently believe that when it comes to whether it's Native Americans or African-American issues or reparations, the most important thing for the U.S. government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds."
I am far from the most liberal on this BBS, and I think this is a far cry from saying , "I support slavery reparations"
There are several steps between his quote and what you are thinking he said.
-

negative there sir.
in order to prove us wrong, you would have to prove that the number of non minority schools being improved was equal to the number of minority schools.

i would be willing to bet that he's only interested in improving schools with a majority of the aforementioned minority though :D
Note please that you didn't say MOSTLY.

Just saw "Obamessiah" today. I like it!
At some time before the election he's going to have to either go ahead and change water into wine or explain just what "change" he plans on implementing and how he intends to accomplish it.
Probably see the first long before the sheeple see the second. :)

Note please that you didn't say MOSTLY.
"""i would be willing to bet that he's only interested in improving schools with a majority of the aforementioned minority though """
correct. i said he interested as quoted above. means that he's only interested in helping schools that'se minorities. even in the inner cities there's going to be non-minority students(of course in that case they are minorities). these seem to be the only schools he's interested in helping.
so..as i said previously, to prove us wrong, you would have to w\shwo equal numbers of minority and non minority schools.
ooo....and guess what. neither one of us has to worry about losing that bet, because if osama DOES win, he will only do as all of his predecessors have done for the people.
i'm going to modify this slightly. you don't have to prove equal numbers. you only have to prove close to equal numbers. that seems fair.

Did you ever see somebody do or say something really unbelievably stupid and you are so shocked by it that all you can do is get this crinkled forehead and squinty eyed look on your face?
That's how I look right now.

it's ok.
those of us that see both sides understand how it is that you just don't/can't/won't know how to see it any other way.

So just so I'm clear, which part was the logical component of your argument -- Calling them chicks or the part about testicles?
It's called sarcasm - ie: tossing back an example of stupid-one-liners back at ya.

Well that was the smartest thing I've read all day....
(see now, THAT is sarcasm)
