Title: Why arnt these here yet?
Post by: SKYGUNS on July 31, 2008, 03:54:09 PM
British porcupine

Catalina

Swordfish

This is more of a question than a request, all are decent aircraft that played a roll and its confusing to know why arnt they in the game yet.

Catalina I would say is reserved for CT. It seems CT will have the need to scout out enemy movement which will make the Catalina valuable.

UPDATE: I just received word. HTC has made immense progress on CT and it will now be 13 days until the arrival of the most anticipated update to AH.

I'd rather see the H8K2 'Emily':

1,800fpm climb rate.
280mph top speed.
Five 20mm Type 99 cannons and three to five 7.7mm machine guns (including a couple aiming out of the belly).
Two 800kg torpedoes or eight 250kg bombs or two 1500kg bombs.
Fully protected fuel system, armor for the engines and gunner positions.

I think it would be great to see these planes in the game. It takes all types of pilots to win wars...

Probably because I doubt anyone would up a recon sea-plane to go looking for CV groups when a Tempest can do the job and shoot down 10 uppers at the same time.

For a scenario, sure, but in the MA, there just isnt anyone getting in line to make 8 hour sight seeing trips (some 51 sticks notwithstanding).  :D

Long milkruns can be fun if you are with good company. I think that if the option to use one of these planes was present you would find players using them. They would be valuable for players that strive on teamwork.  This is how I would implement them if given the chance.

Recon planes should have a bomber scope. When in scope mode the player can use his joystick to pan the scope around. When an E/CV is spotted it should send a message to the pilot/scoper containing the co-ordinates of the E/CV.

Absolutely! :aok :aok Karnak knows his stuff. The Emily was a tough bird. Allied piots considered it a very nasty customer to deal with.

Long range naval recce planes should be able to 'spot' enemy fleets and when they do they should appear on the country's map for some 10 minutes (a static icon which will become out of date). This will give them a worthy role.

Forgot to include the Emily. Don't forget Sea planes could be the only thing that can take off from a port and defend it from CVs with the addition of having a sea plane hangers added to the port...

I left out the ludicrous fuel endurance of the Emily.  It could on full tanks and max cruise stay in the air for 24 hours.  In AH that would be reduced to a mere 12 hours due to the double fuel consumption.

OMG

no worry about fuel leaking

This has been discussed before, and I will strike up the reason why this SHOULD NOT happen:

Currently when a CV is spotted its life is basically at an end. Immediately the lancstuka pilots come swarming and there is almost no hope. Now, if an icon appears for 10 minutes the life-span of a CV is decreased even more. Now there is obviously no hope.

Here's a better way of doing it then. When the Recon plane spots the CV it gives the first level of it's grid location. This would prolong the life of the CV.

So lanstukas are a big problem in the H2H rooms?
