Firstly - bear in mind I play these kinds of games to be a bomber...
Secondly - I think AH has the right conditions to allow contrails (implemented perhaps a smoke tho).
Am I nuts? No. What I'm talking about is giving Wind Layers the option to induce contrails in day or night. In the MA set it so that the upper cloud layers (25k+) cause contrails AT NIGHT. Yes, so we can't fly along the ceiling at night and have to fly at more likely night-time operational ceilings.
And otherwise set a very small layer that generates contrails and small amounts of turbulence between random altitudes of 18k+ and perhaps changes every 30 minutes or so. Pilots can easily avoid the contrail layer but not staying in it, and keeping an eye on their 6 incase they start pulling them again.
This will be a nice boost to realism in the Scenarios.
