What gun do you carry? Or, if you dont carry, what gun is your main for your Home Defense plan?
Im basically down to 3. A 9mm M-3953, a .45 SIG P-220, and a .38 snub S&W M-36. Loads are 9mm 110 grn +P+ JHP, .45 Speer 200 grn +P JHP, and for the .38 a 125 grn +P JHP. When I carry I always have 2 of the 3 on me.
-
being an avid outdoorsman, i have several guns. Mostly hunting rifles and shotguns. I don't carry a gun (on my body) every where i go but i usually keep an unloaded 12 gauge under the seat of my truck. I do have a S&W .38 i keep in hidden by my bed for easy access. But if you want the guns i own i can list all my shotguns and rifles :)
-
I've a nearly new Colt Detective Special and a Ruger LCP for that.
I've got a lot more but concealed carry is so much easier with the smaller ones.
-
Sig 229 DAK .40
-
Beretta 92F, S&W .357

I recently purchased a used (in very good condition) Walther PPK/S .380 auto as my primary carry pistol. Sure beats trying to lug around my old Taurus PT-99 9mm. That thing is just too big to conceal seeing as it's a full sized combat pistol. I have 95 grain Federal Hydro Shock's in the PPK. It'll put someone down if need be as long as they aren't wearing a vest and I don't see the hood rats around here wearing those too much. If I carry my 9mm I load it with 135 grain Federal Hydro Shocks. On very rare occasions I'll carry my Kimber 1911A1 with Hydro Shocks as well, but again that hog is tough to conceal also.
For my apartment I have my Remington 870 12 gage pump loaded with #4 Pheasant loads. Plenty of direct penetration but they wont carry any power through a wall so my neighbors don't get blasted.
I'm looking at a Titanium Smith & Wesson snub gun in .38 Special as well. Shot one at the range last week and really liked it even though I've never been a big revolver guy. Nice handgun, but only 5 rounds so that's a bit of a downside. It would make a nice backup gun though.

Springfield XD Compact and Kimber Pro Carry II both in .45 ACP. If I make it to the car there will be a Thompson making oh so sweet music.
-
S&W Model 60-9. I have other firearms but prefer that one for the street.
-
Glock 19, the same one I carried both on and off duty before. I also have a S&W 66 round but with a 2 3/4" barrel that conceals very nicely.
The Colt Officers model that I carried off duty before the Glock is in the safe. It shoots well but is heavier than the Glock and I don't trust the recoil spring retention system on it.
-
I don't carry on a day-to-day basis, but around the house I have a Ruger P-345DP loaded with 230 gr. ball rounds.
-
Seems like everyone prefers not to be undergunned. There are several mentioned Ive always had an interest in, unfortunatly Im a slave to Dept. regulations as to what I can carry both on and off. It used to be they had a sense of humor about it but now its all a big deal.
I always wanted a Walther PPK just cause they are so cool. I think when I retire Im going to treat myself to one.

Street = S&W model 442 .38 Spc+
Home = Remington 870 Pump Shotgun 12ga

I'm very eager to try out an XD - a police officer friend of mine told me it's basically a mix of a 1911 and a Glock - the best of both worlds :aok

Got a Ruger in the nightstand. And this fall im getting a new Winchester Model 1892 John Wayne. :salute

Yes, actually. I am not yet convinced that his coronation is preordained. I'm just getting in a better position, and I have decided to pick up a few items I desire.
-
My carry piece is a Kimber SIS Pro (in the home or in places like Kentucky) We in IL arent good nuff people to have the right for CCW according to our leaders infinite wisdom...........
My blaster is an Auto-Ord 1911 A1
My home offender is a WASR-10 aka AK-47.
-
Being 16 i'm SOL on the CCW buuut i have a Remington 870 12ga i use at the gun club and my dad carries a Double Derringer in .22LR

Always a good plan. I laid in a pair of DPMS M4 style Panthers in .308. I figure after the annointing, coronation and beatification I will be able to sell one for approximately 2X what I paid for the pair. I bought in at $550 each, unfired NIB and no, they aren't stolen. You just have to be in the right place at the right time.

I have a Springfield XD 45 service model , a Charles Daly 1911 45acp(my truck gun) , a taurus model 85 concealed hammer in 38spc(my wifes piece) , a Bushmaster M4 , a Romian made wasr 10 AK47 , mossberg 500 12gauge and about 14 or 15 others. Here are some .

Nice buy on the 308's. One thing I'm going to pick up will be an AR-10. I'm never in the right place at the right time.

For travel and nightstand use the Kimber custom eclipse in 45 is always around full of hyrdoshoks. I have a cut down to 4" Ruger redhawk in 44 mag that I really like and shoot a lot. For ease of carry I have a Smith and Wesson 360 PD in .357 full of 125 federal hollow points.. this is a 12 oz revolver that fits in a front pocket and is no more trouble to carry than a cell phone. It is a whole new world of recoil tho.. especially since I replaced the sticky, useless, rubber grips with smooth eagle wood ones.
For long guns I have a couple of Winchester 97 shotguns in long and trench gun variations.. they work as good now as they ever did.. I have a mini 14 in .223 and an M1 garand and a few mausers and the odd smle and such.

Wow. The guns you american can have are amazing. Here in Australia you have to have a license and a reason that's NOT home defence to own a firearm. Last I checked anyways.
oh and for the record Australia had average say 100 deaths per year by guns. The U.S.A. has something like 10000 average. Interesting to note.

How many deaths did you have on average before your government took most of your guns away a decade or so ago? Mexico has far more restrictive gun laws and gun ownership compared to the US, and the last time I checked they had a higher per capita homicide rate as well. All relative.

My truck gun is a 1908 Smith and Wesson copy of a Webley chambered in 38 S&W.
Though I think it may not be a wise move to show everyone the full extent of a gun collection. Mine is . . . sufficient.
-
The only guns loaded in my home right now are my Beretta CX4 9mm (92 mod) which has a reflex sight mounted and a Surefire E2D LED Defender mounted on board, my police model 92FS Beretta with the Trijicon night sights. Those two guns are my HD/SHTF guns. They use the same caliber and mags. Since we are now in the hottest month in Ga I am carrying my little S&W .357 snubby, loaded with 38+P GDHP. In the cooler months I go back to a Sig 229 9mm set up.
Everything else is locked up in the safe.
-
Love gun.

Same here :rofl :rofl :rofl

I carry an XD .45 Bitone, the full sized version. I'm big enough that an IWB carry w/ a T shirt over it will conceal it. For home I have a Kimber Stainless Goldmatch in .45.

Most of the time its a Kel-Tec .380 w/ct laser sight loaded w/Speer Gold dots in a back pocket Guru Dave holster, runs perfectly
the rest of the time, a S&W model 60 .38 cal 5-shot loaded with hydroshocks, pretty good condition
I'd be willing to trade both these plus whatever for a S&W 340PD...

I'm sure this one's gonna get merged into General Gun Discussion soon, so I guess it's post now or never time...To tell you the truth, Rich, The subject of European, Australian, and other foreign gun laws' have come up in seperate threads' on this BBS, started by people from those places, and initially being discussed by people from those aformentioned places, when the U.S. members' of this board descended on them with statistics and rhetoric about the failure of gun control outside the U.S. In a way, I partly believe this has alienated a portion of the community to the point that yes, they will jump in and take a swing at American gun ownership whenever it's brought up on the forum here.
That said, hope there's not another flame war that hijacks' this thread any worse than it already is...
-
I dont care Frodo. We were having a general gun discussion among Yanks and nobody has the right to downtalk us when the subject matter isnt crime, or stats, or whatever. Its at a point where Im about to avoid these entirely because, in my eyes, theres always some European or Asian or whatever, barging in with negative comments about America and our culture.
You would never see me doing the same if the shoe was on the other foot. And I dont doubt that some Yanks do also show disrespect in a tit for tat. Make no mistake, Im proud to be a hunter, gun owner, target shooter, and an American!
I dont need anyone to tell me about crime in America cause Ive had knee high boots wadeing in it for 25 years. I sure as hell dont need an Australian to do so.
If we can go back to talking guns then fine. If this turns into another INTL "we better then you" thread then Im gone.
We are different here in that we believe the rights of the law abiding shouldnt be infringed due to the actions of criminals. And we must have done something right in this country, "ya think"?

You appear to have taken my comment in the worse possible sense and not how it was intended at all. I believe in my post in this thread (which i believe I'm free to do irrespective of the country I live in) I admired the collections you american firearms owners are allowed to have. I'm still amazed at some of the examples and arsenal's pictured and talked about in this thread. The reason I mentioned gun control here at all is because I'd never be able to own half of the weapons in this thread. The statistics I mentioned were to the best of my recollection and possibly not entirely accurate. But don't make the mistake of assuming that I was trying to downtalk or make negative comments about america or their firearms policies. If you think that an Australian who is interested in a thread on firearms collections is the USA isn't allowed to post a small mostly neutral comment then I feel that you have something against australians or me in particular.

Nice piece. I've been looking to upgrade from my 9mm, how does the Kimber preform? I've heard the are the best when it comes to .45's. I've also had my eye on a Desert Eagle .44. Any feed back would be helpful.... :aok
-
It's the best firing handgun I own. Smooth and reliable. Firing it you would never know it was a .45 as far as recoil goes. Standing back from the firing line without hearing protection there is little doubt that it means business however.
The picture as it shows up on my laptop is not much smaller than the actual gun. It's very compact, holds 7+1 and is not cumbersome as long as you're familiar with how a 1911 works. Single action only and a safety that only works with the hammer pulled back (that doesn't sit well with some folks and some range goers don't understand this) come to mind.
That said Kimber knows how to make a 1911. Built very well and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this particular pistol to anyone looking for a carry gun. It's pricey especially compared to an XD or M&P but that's apples to oranges. I bought it as a replacement to a .380 Walther PPK.
-
Thanks for the information. I was at Gander Mountain last week looking at the Kimber .45's and you're right they aren't cheap, which is no problem if they're worth it. You're the second person that recommended the Kimber as a good pistol worth the money. Thanks for the input....... :salute

Ive never owned a Kimber but have heard so many positives about them maybe one day.
Ive been shooting since I was 9yo, archery since I was 7yo. My Dad always had firearms and taught me to use them but primarily I was brought up a bow hunter. I love all kinds of shooting. Clays, handgun, long range rifle, combat. I also have a passion for developing surpremely accurate rifle loads.
-
Ok. You guys win. I retract anything I've said about statistics and gun deaths. Seems you guys are right. But the first half of my initial post was not meant as downtalk just a point to note. Lazs what you say is sort of true about jealousy and what not but only sort of. I'm envious of some of these collections and I realise that my country would never allow them. I'm sorry if I offended anyone or anyone took my post the wrong way. Back on topic some of these gun collections are really cool. Just wish I knew a little bit more about firearms to post more input.

I am an avid hunter, mainly waterfowl, so I've got plenty of rifles, shotguns, and the like. My dad's truck is specially modded to carry a shotgun in an area of the truck that I will leave undefined. Unloaded, of course. I don't carry a gun on me, but I have 4 or 5 shotguns, a couple .270 rifles, and smaller arms like pistol, .22 caliber, etc.

I don't carry, but home defense primary is Springfield XD .45 ACP with Glock laser/light backed up by Stoeger Coach 12-gauge shotgun.
