Apparently the price of beer is on the rise as a result of the price of hops going up. This will effect craft beer more then the larger beer companies like Anheuser-Busch. You can read more about it here.

What isn't going up in price lately because of fuel, ethanol and everything else acting like a rocket.

Actually this isn't a result of the rise in fuel costs, this is a result of fewer crops of hops being grown, resulting in much higher prices per pound.

Are there fewer hops being grown because it's not the cash crop that corn is? If farmrs are choosing to grow corn rather than hops because of the big ethenol push, then the price of oil and fuel IS directly related to the price of beer.

I'll quit drinking microbrew when it hits $5/gallon!
Oh wait..... :cry

Doesn't have anything to do with the bees now does it?
I am worried that i.e. price of seeds may go kaboom...

Yes everything is on the rise (or the dollars fall)
More important than hops is Malt grain. More and more acres are put into production of ethanol because of price of fuel and our food and drink are suffering. Besides the fact that to seed and grow the grain is becoming more costly.
This year I know of 10's of thousands of acres that where planted to Durum because of the lack of product, land that typically was in malt grain production. Farmers are always behind the times (so to speak) planting a crop that was good $ last year.
Many years ago Fidel Castro said "We are now pulling food out of the poor mans mouth to put fuel in the rich mans tank" true no matter what you think of Castro :O

Where I live, Beer is much more expensive than gasoline though :D
We're just beginning with Malt.
VIKING beer :D

Grow certified organic hops and you'd make a killing.
-
I think that hops wouldn't make it where I live, but I have grown organic barley, and it was relatively easy.

Where is Von with his picture?

Anheuser-Busch grows its own hops.

Anheuser-Busch grows its own hops.
This is what is happening to the smaller family farms, they are all being bought by large corporations.
-
Anheuser-Busch grows its own hops.
Sure, but with the amount of hops they put in their beer, 2 or 3 acres is probably all they need for their entire production.

Ethanol is worthless.

Ethanol is worthless.
:huh Its value can be higher than gasoline in some places.

Yea, but you get like 40% WORSE gas milage. It's worthless. It just drives up the price of food. And what do you think delivers it? DIESEL trucks, and it's also worse for the enviroment to make. Ethanol is worthless, worse than Carbon Credits.

OK :aok Though you meant $$ Yes the jury is still out on wether or not it is viable or not. It does produce more HP per gallon but yes less MPG.
We can also make Biodiesel from oilseeds but the same thing aplies there.
Ethanol in its pure form (before it is denatured) is just moon shine so it is valuable. :rofl

Clearly in the face of this beer crisis the US needs to invade Germany.
