Some thoughts to ponder in regards to perk points being awarded to the winning country:
#1. What's to stop Joe Blow from Leaving his computer logged onto AH day and night just to get perk points while he is at work or asleep?
#2. Suppose the Rook (basiges! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) ) win 8 out of the next 10 resets. Might this encourage the less devoted Knights and Bishops from switching to Rook in hopes of earning perk points? If so we could eventually end up with 60% of all players flying for Rook, giving the Knights and Bishops no chance at all of ever winning or doing anything beyond desperate base defense.

How about having a pilot's persona in the game even if not in the plane?
You are not considered to be in a country until you are in one of the towers/barracks. Once there, a destroyed tower/barrak kills all the occupants placing them in countryless limbo. Some penalties for a death in a tower should apply (loss of 1/4 of your perk points?)

Eskimo,
If somebody wants to do that, I guess they could leave it logged in. I'm not sure it would be worth the effort though. I'm more concerned about the extra load it could put on the Host. Maybe HTC could automatically punt folks after a certain period of inactivity.
As for folks switching countries to get resets, Pyro has mentioned perk multipliers for being outnumbered may work. That way, you would get more perkies for fighting for the country with the least number of folks, so it would tend to counter-balance the effect.

I've had times where I had been logged in, but went off between sorties to watch tv for an hour. In every case I can recall, I came back to find the connection was closed. It seems to me that the game closes out connections that don't generate traffic, but I don't know for certain.

Miko;
A guy could take a gun position on a ship, or
ditch a buff in the middle of nowhere.
Lephturn;
I hadn't heard about the perk multipliers for being outnumbered. Great point though. It alone could completely resolve the issue, if implemented properly.
Vosper;
While trying to troubleshoot connection problems in the long ago, I have left my system logged in to AH. I was only booted when I had a poor connect.
Thanks for the input guys.
BTW, my concern is/was not so much with others getting free points as much as having a severely imbalance arena or an over-loaded host.

My problem with it is that you get guys who won't go for a reset till they have the most fields no matter how bad a side is being vulched.
I was on the other night and some of us were calling to get the last few bases so we could reset but where countered by people saying to hold off cause they wanted the perk points.
I ended up logging cause I couldn't take the bases myself and I wasn't going to vulch.
