I was in a big battle last night in an Ostwind with dozens of tanks, bombers, fighters, halftracks, etc. There were guys flying and driving all around me and stuff blowing up every 10 seconds. And it occured to me that all I could hear was my own engine and gunfire.
This makes sense if I was in a plane, but in the turret of an Ostwind I think one should be able to hear this stuff. I think being able to hear the sounds of battle (like in Rogue Spear) would really increase "immersion".

I think you should be able to hear alot of it even in a plane. Even AW3 you could hear flak, bomb explosions, and the plane flying next to you. Something for 1.05?

I notice that the explosion sounds don't work in the main arena, but do in the SEA and offline...guess it's off. Only time I hear the nifty explsion is when I'm back in the tower after dying, or when I hit quit.
(Btw why is there so much HD activity after long vehicle missions?? I've seen it sit there for 1 min or longer before it goes back to the tower (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) )
But I've read where mostly pilots couldn't hear anything beyond there engine. Not even machine gun fire (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) and they felt incoming fire when it hit the plane, where we have the hit sound to compensate (well mostly)
But I'd like to think you could at least hear other planes, ack, vehicles etc from the ground or when at low throttle in a plane (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

I haven't flown 1.04 online yet but I do remember I could hear the 88 ack going off when in flight or on the ground.
I had to up explosions all the way higher than other sounds. Maybe use the sound editor in Windows to even increase them more? I'll experiment!

Weave I've read a lot of WW2 pilot accounts and I've never heard them mention any sounds other than their own engine and guns.
Westy good point about volume, I'll play with it too.
I noticed the wind sound got a boost and I like it better than the one I boosted myself.
