Post by: SuBWaYCH on August 06, 2008, 02:40:20 PM
Did any of them see service in the Finland/Soviet wars?

Apparently, Fencer made a VVS skin for the B25C :)

yes, I do know they saw service because of the lend-lease program. Soviets acquired at least 850 of them.

What I"m looking to see is if they saw service in the Finish/Soviet wars. Trying to make a snapshot idea off of it but I'd like it to be historically accurate.

I think it's pretty safe to say that there weren't any B-25s on Finnish front.

Not so safe Wmaker ;)

The Soviet long distance bomb group (ADD) did have some B-25s when they executed those three Night bombing raids against Helsinki in Feb 1944.

But that is the only thing I have found. No mention of Mitchels at day time at Finnish front in any of my books I've checked so far. I think ADD flew from Moscow area, so they were not stationed near Finland.

Yeah, Blauk is right.

I overlooked the three night bombing raids of Helsinki.

But there wasn't any regular use of B-25s on Finnish front, like the A-20 was used for example. And that plane was mainly used as torpedo bomber/photo recon plane. B-25 could very well be used as "a generic soviet bomber" on snapshots/scenarios on the Finnish front. Because of it's slower speed it would suit better than the A-20 on many occasions.

It always cracks me up when someone says they have "searched the internet".  :lol

There was also an article in a modeling magazine recently on them, I have it around here somewhere...  Well I did, it has relocated to the 'non current project' pile  :huh

Anyway...
