Title: CiC duties, ALL SQUADS READ
Post by: Sled on August 07, 2008, 09:26:05 PM
For those that have forgotten.

All squads will have CiC duties from time to time in FSO, it is part of being a squad in FSO.

It is the responsibility of a squads leadership to make sure that CiC duties are fulfilled when their squads time to do them comes up.

That means if a squads leadership (CO,XO, or Third) is unable to fulfil their CiC duties for a frame, then it is the responsibility of those people (or others in the squad) to find a replacement for them.

Simply telling the Admin CM. "Sorry we can't do it." is NOT acceptable And may result in suspension from FSO.

Not acknowledging your CiC duty and not communicating with the Admin or myself about you not being able to be CiC, WILL result in the squad being removed from FSO.

The CiC's of an FSO frame are the single MOST important person in an one FSO frame. If they drop the ball, it can case great havoc with the event. Hence the reason we must be very strict about this.

Everyone will run into a situation where they can not be CiC, it happens, BUT you MUST find a replacement. And I recommend you do that ASAP. The FSO BB is perfect for this, you just have to use it and with minimal delay.

We are going to work on giving Frame 1 CiC's some more advance notice on being a Frame 1 CiC.

During Der Zweite Blitz Frame II, I took the place of Lambo of Air Raiders as CiC when he had a conflict. I learned a lot while doing that and the Allies were successful that Frame.  One of the things I realized as soon as I accepted the role was that the CiC is responsible for many things. In no particular order, the success of the mission for that Frame, the enjoyment of the side the CiC is on, and even the enjoyment of the other side.  I took all of that very seriously and did my best to ensure that I accomplished those tasks.  Whether I did or not is subject to debate by those involved of course. My point is this:  I believe that in order to do a good job as CiC, a person has to be VERY into the FSO experience.  A casual observer or player cannot do as thourough a job as is required.  Sure, some of you guys that have been players this type of game for 10 years might be able to do it in your sleep but not everyone is like that.

I can't wait to get another chance at being CiC but others do not feel the same way.  Perhaps if a squad knows that they have no one who wants/is capable of doing the job, they should be excused from the duty and someone can be chosen off a list of volunteers of people.  Put my name at the top of that list should it even come to pass.

:salute everyone who made my CiC experience memorable.

I will say that having members in the squadron who help out with the planning goes a long way when it comes to getting the orders out, win or lose  :salute

Congratulations, you have hit upon the most important leadership secret to all SEA events.

One thing that isn't currently done that I think should be
1. Each Frame 1 of FSO should only be assigned to a CIC/Squad that has previously performed the duty.  I don't know from experience but Frame 1 must be the hardest. (Frame 2 planing was kind of fun actually)

2. Between frames part of the duties of the respective CiC's should be to debrief the oncoming CiC and turn over any spreadsheets or support documents that he/she might have available. The turnover should occur between saturday and Monday when the objectives are announced. Also give any pointers and answer questions.  This would be done frame1 to 2, and 2 to 3.

The staff did a great job with support and answering questions, but there's nothing wrong with a CO turning over to a new CO, just as it is done in the real world.

Just my 2c.

353rd is more than willing to give it a try this time around and AH staff is welcome to sit in.
